Only screenshots, not payments: Manesar businessman loses Rs 2.8L in online fraud
Gurgaon: A Manesar-based garment trader lost Rs 2.8 lakh to a fraudulent customer who placed multiple online orders since Jan.
Jitender, who runs a shop in Pataudi and maintains an online shopping presence, was cheated by a woman who placed multiple orders.
To appear legitimate, the fraudster gained the shopkeeper's trust by sharing screenshots of alleged payments for her purchases.
It was only later that Jitender discovered no money had been transferred to his account, prompting him to file a formal complaint with the cyber police station.
"I received a call from a lady from in Jan. She identified herself as Kajal Choudhary of Faridabad. She told me that she was interested in buying clothes from my shop as seen on our social media page and asked me to deliver the clothes to her in Faridabad in lieu of the online payments.
After she started ordering suits and lehngas, I delivered those to the given address in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, through porters. She used to send me screenshots of the online payment to my number.
Since I was busy at the shop, I never checked the authenticity of the screenshots," the victim told police.
After sending her clothes worth Rs 2.75 lakh, Jitender discovered that no money was transferred to his bank account by the lady and that the screenshots were fake. He lodged a formal complaint with the Cyber Manesar police.
Meanwhile, cyber police have nabbed a suspect under section 318(4) of BNS and have started the investigation.

Ahmedabad plane crash: Identities of 31 victims ascertained through DNA tests
AHMEDABAD: Authorities have so far identified 31 victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad through DNA testing and 12 families have claimed the mortal remains so far, an official said on Sunday. The process of DNA matching of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani was also underway, Dr Rajnish Patel, professor of surgery at the government-run B J Medical College here said. As many as 230 teams were formed to coordinate with the victims' families, officials earlier said. The victims included 241 of the 242 passengers and crew members on board the London-bound flight.

Bengaluru psychologist held for smuggling phone into central jail
A 33-year-old prison counsellor has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly attempting to smuggle a mobile phone into the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, said the police Saturday. The accused has been identified as Navyashree K M, who worked as a contract-based psychologist in the prison's hospital wing. According to the FIR, Navyashree attempted to smuggle a Redmi mobile phone into the premises last Friday. She was caught during a routine security check by personnel from the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF). A handheld metal detector alerted the guards, prompting a detailed search, during which the phone was reportedly found hidden in her private parts. Prison authorities handed her over to the Parappana Agrahara police, who booked her under Section 323 (Dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Karnataka Prisons Act. A senior police officer confirmed that the device was meant for an undertrial prisoner. Investigators are now attempting to determine who gave her the phone, the identity of the intended recipient, and the nature of her relationship with the inmate. The police are also probing if this incident was part of a larger pattern and whether she had smuggled phones into the jail before. In another case, a 43-year-old domestic worker was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 67 lakh in cash and valuables worth Rs 70 lakh from her employer's home in Chamarajpet, Bengaluru. The accused, identified as Uma alias Salma, hails from Chamarajanagar and had been employed as a house help for a bedridden woman named Sujatha. She has been booked under BNS Section 306 (theft by servant). According to a complaint filed by Radha, Sujatha's 72-year-old sister, the theft occurred at their residence, where a large sum of cash was stored after the family sold a property near Electronics City. The money was reportedly kept in a locker at Sujatha's house. Uma, who had joined the household two months ago, is believed to have learned about the cash and valuables. Last month, seizing an opportunity when fewer people were at home, she allegedly made away with the loot. The theft came to light when Sujatha's family decided to buy a flat in Chamarajpet and discovered the locker empty. When questioned, Uma initially denied any involvement but later confessed during police interrogation. The police recovered Rs 57 lakh in cash and valuables worth Rs 70 lakh from her possession.

Ahmedabad plane crash: DNA confirms identities of 31 victims; 12 bodies handed over
DNA testing has confirmed the identities of 31 victims from the June 12th Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, and 12 families have so far claimed the remains, authorities said on Sunday (June 15, 2025). Dr. Rajnish Patel, professor of surgery at the government-run B.J. Medical College and Civil Hospital, said DNA matching is still underway for several victims, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was among those killed in the crash. A total of 242 people — passengers and crew — were on board the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner when it crashed minutes after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon. Only one passenger survived the incident. In addition to those on board, several people on the ground, including MBBS students living in the college hostel, were killed in the incident. Pandey added that the victims from Gujarat hailed from 18 districts and that the administration was also in touch with diplomats of other countries. The senior IAS officer said death certificates were being issued on the spot to avoid any inconvenience to the families. 'Each body will be escorted to its native place in an ambulance with police protection. Grief counsellors are also being provided to help families cope with the trauma,' he added.
