The two sides traded six goals in the opening 40:00, leaving them deadlocked, 3-3.
Pastrnak, who rolled up 5 points (3-2–5) the night before in a 5-1 win over the Hurricanes on Causeway Street had his name on all three goals (assists to strikes by Elias Lindholm, Morgan Geekie, and ex-Sabre Corey Mittselstadt).
Pastrnak's helper on Geekie's goal, for the 2-0 lead, also established a team record, Pastrnak left with his name on 10 consecutive goals — the previous high (9) co-held by Bruins legends Phil Esposito and Ray Bourque.

The Sabres, again without a playoff seed for a 14th consecutive season, pulled even, 2-2, with a pair of goals across a span of 3:14 in the second period. The first was by Thompson at 7:33, followed by Boston College product Alex Tuch at 10:47.
Mittelstadt, acquired in the March trade that sent Charlie Coyle to the Avalanche, knocked home the go-ahead goal (3-2) with a power-play strike at 16:38. It gave Mittlestadt three goals since joining the offensively-challenged Bruins. It also left Pastrnak with his name on an 11th consecutive Bruins goal.
With but 90 seconds remaining in the second period, Rasmus Dahlin pulled the Sabres even again, 3-3, helped by the fact that Bruins newcomers Fabian Lysell and Fraser Minten got their signals crossed in the defensive zone.

Echeverri completes loan move to Bayer Leverkusen
Manchester City midfielder Claudio Echeverri has joined Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan deal. The Argentine teenager, 19, made three appearances for City last season, including his debut as a substitute in the FA Cup final defeat by Crystal Palace. He scored his first City goal in the 6-0 thrashing of UAE side Al-Ain at the Club World Cup in June. City signed Echeverri from River Plate for £12.5m in January 2024, but the player will now continue his development in Germany under ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. "It's fantastic for me to take the next steps with the 2024 champions of Germany now in the Bundesliga and the Champions League," said Echeverri, who will wear the number nine shirt. "I want to get a lot of minutes on the pitch and develop into an even better player week by week. A lot of young players have made it to the top of the game here at Bayer Leverkusen. "I want to take that path in the coming season and play my part in helping Bayer achieve great things."

Miami Dolphins' Mike McDaniel addresses Matthew Judon tryout, Darren Waller's imminent debut
Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel spoke with reporters via Zoom, covering a wide range of topics including the team's interest in veteran edge rusher Matthew Judon and when we will see tight end Darren Waller's debut. The Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars will hold a joint practice on August 21 and then play August 23 in the final preseason game. Dolphins work out edge rusher Matthew Judon The interest in Judon should not be taken as a concern about the health of edge rushers Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and Chop Robinson. Instead, Judon is "visiting for the sake of seeing if there's a situation that both parties would be able to come into an agreement of, 'Hey, this is a situation that fits.' " Running back situation: McDaniel isn't looking for one particular skill that each back is best at and then typecasting the player, even with Alexander Mattison out. But he says, "Finding yardage for us, in short yardage, is definitely an asset." More: Miami Dolphins "sidelines have been different" in 2025, Mike McDaniel says Will we see TE Darren Waller? Waller, expected to start for the Dolphins at tight end, has not yet practiced with the team. Instead he has worked on the side to get in shape. But that soon will change. "I'm expecting to see him sooner than later," McDaniel said. "In the back of my mind, it would be this week, but I'm not going to just put them out there this week just because I said it before. So I'm hopeful, but it's very soon." Zach Sieler back at practice, De'Von Achane has calf injury McDaniel expects DT Zach Sieler to practice this week. RB De'Von Achane has a calf injury. McDaniel wants to be cautious with Achane to assure it's not an ongoing problem. "That's more preventative in nature just because all trainers across the league have horror stories with calves if you're too aggressive coming back." Making noise: Players were lined up on the sideline to cheer on teammates late in the Lions game, particularly on special teams. "It's about talk versus doing." McDaniel credits it to "enhanced connectivity." Xavien Howard joins Colts. Why not Dolphins? Ex-Dolphins CB Xavien Howard is joining the Colts, Miami's opponent in the opener. Did the Dolphins consider Howard? Will they sign a veteran corner? McDaniel said he's "happy for X." McDaniel added, "There's opportunities every day that you're grading your guys versus whoever is available. That's just the nature of the National Football League." McDaniel said it's their job to consider all possibilities, including adding a veteran via waiver wire or free agency later this summer: "I wouldn't close the lid on that possibility at all, but I'm not trying to open it." Later, when asked why coaches seem to be confident in the team's cornerbacks when those on the outside question it, McDaniel referred to Pete Carroll once telling him, "You can't assume that people are the same every year, every offseason. I do think it's the same conversation every year where people are assuming that teams or individual players are the same person that they've known. And when you don't have a long resume of NFL production, you assume that that's because they're not good. And I think that's probably why there's a disconnect, because we're all evaluating people off of days, weeks, a very, very focused, intentional instruction and evaluation from that." Dolphins secondary still beat up CB Ethan Bonner has a hamstring injury and will need weeks to recover. With S Dante Trader Jr., coaches planned to use him sparingly vs. the Lions. RT Austin Jackson is expected to play in the opener against Indianapolis. Hunter has McDaniel's respect: On Jaguars two-way star rookie, Travis Hunter: "I think everyone's intrigued by having one roster spot fill two needs. And yeah, I think he's a great player." New-look UCLA aims for turnaround with transfer quarterback Nico Iamaleava
LOS ANGELES — DeShaun Foster got busy overhauling most of his coaching staff after his first season at UCLA. He upgraded the roster, making a splash in the transfer portal by landing quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Iamaleava left Tennessee before the spring game to return home to Los Angeles, where he'll try to take the Bruins to heights they haven't been in years. UCLA was 5-7 overall and 3-6 in its debut season in the Big Ten Conference under Foster. The Bruins' last double-digit win season was in 2014 and they've made just three bowl appearances since 2017, losing twice. Iamaleava is among 55 new players in Westwood, along with eight new assistants. He didn't participate in spring camp, so how quickly the Bruins come together will be something to watch. 'I love how humble he is,' Foster said. 'He's open to learning anything and he hasn't big-timed anybody in our program. He's always in there acting like one of the regular guys, like he's been here the whole time.' Nico and Tino Tino Sunseri replaces offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who was fired after one season. Sunseri helped Indiana average 41.3 points — second-best in the nation — and reach the College Football Playoff last year. Sunseri, 36, played quarterback at Pitt and went on to the Canadian Football League before starting his coaching career with stops including Florida State and Alabama. 'I just love Tino's energy,' Foster said. 'He's played quarterback at a high level and he just holds them accountable.' Sunseri and Iamaleava hit it off early on. 'The thing about Nico is he's a self-driven person. He has a certain standard of how he wants to operate each day,' Sunseri said. 'There's not one day that he hasn't come in here that he's not focused on being able to become the best player he can be for UCLA.' Sunseri is working with a retooled offensive line that includes Kentucky transfer Courtland Ford and Florida State transfer Julian Armella. Iamaleava's younger brother, Madden, is a quarterback, too. He originally committed to the Bruins and then bailed on signing day to join Arkansas. He spent half the spring with the Razorbacks before also coming home. Defense Over half the projected starting lineup on defense is made up of transfers, including linebackers Isaiah Chisom from Oregon State and Ben Perry from Louisville. The Bruins ranked 39th in the country with 340.8 yards per game allowed last season. The lone returning starter is defensive tackle Siale Taupaki, who made seven starts. 'With this much turnover, we have to find ways to get this team to jell,' Foster said. 'You're going to see growth in my team.' The schedule The Bruins open with former Pac-12 Conference rival Utah on Aug. 30 at the Rose Bowl, followed by a trip to UNLV in Allegiant Stadium and a home game against New Mexico on Sept. 13. The schedule gets tough with a visit by national title contender No. 2 Penn State on Oct. 4 and road games at No. 20 Indiana on Oct. 25 and No. 3 Ohio State on Nov. 15. The Bruins close the regular season with a visit to crosstown rival USC on Nov. 29.
