There are many things you can gift your children: a work ethic, property, generosity, good looks or intelligence. But you can also saddle your offspring with an embarrassing name, the risk of an unnatural attitude towards food and an unhinged belief that you need to keep tinkering with your body to a point where you become unrecognisable.
Oh, and the idea that you must move from one relationship to the next as you are defined only by the opposite sex finding you attractive, plus a chaotic attitude towards money. A belief that big houses and breasts, horses and cars will make you happy and encourage others to love you and value you.
Watching the latest reality show on ITV2 last night, in which Princess, the 18-year-old daughter of Katie Price and Peter Andre, shared insecurities about her looks, made me sad.
Princess had feared her nose and eyes were too big and her lips too thin, when in fact she is absolutely stunning. She talked about the unwanted attention she receives from men, and how, as a child, she 'saw things kids shouldn't'. (Katie was addicted to drugs and alcohol, and even attempted suicide before checking into the Priory private clinic.)
It all confirmed to me that women who are not always stable, who are not wary enough of introducing new men into their children's lives - post Peter Andre, Katie has been involved with a former cage fighter, a reality TV contestant and an apparent sex addict - women who appear to see children as some sort of accessory, do not always make the best parents. (And men are just as guilty of this: the fact Katie called her daughter Princess made me think of Michael Jackson, naming his children Prince, Paris and Blanket.)
'Watching the latest reality show on ITV2 last night, in which Princess, the 18-year-old daughter of Katie Price and Peter Andre, exposed her insecurities about her looks, made me sad,' writes Liz Jones
'Princess had feared her nose and eyes were too big and her lips too thin, when in fact she is absolutely stunning'
Don't get me wrong. I have a huge amount of sympathy for Price, who has faced great struggles. She made her own money, is doubtless hardworking and loves her children. She's also intelligent beneath the slap: I was once pitted against her in a debate at the Cambridge Union: the motion was that women are their own worst enemies when it comes to the glass ceiling. Katie, arguing against, beat me hands down, 400 votes to one.
As her daughter says in the new documentary, there are aspects of the former glamour model's character that are admirable: 'She lives life and doesn't care,' said Princess, who also revealed she is having therapy. 'I love that. I'd love that mindset of 'I don't care' because deep down I do, I'll get to bed and cry about it.'
But, despite this seeming bravado, like Katie I know how it feels to believe you are not good enough. She made her breasts bigger; I had mine made smaller, but our motivation was the same: your body needs to change. I've had collagen in my lips, Botox, a face lift, eyebrow transplant and even, just like Katie, a full set of Turkey teeth.
Just like Katie, I ended up bankrupt, in large part because I believed a big house, horses, things, would render me loveable. I started drinking when I lost my house. I made terrible choices with men: I married a serial cheater, dated a drug addict. My first proper boyfriend was violent. I had unprotected sex with all of them. I even stole my cheating husband's sperm in the belief that having a child would make him stick with me, love me.
In the end, I was always too underweight (I suffered from anorexia nervosa from the age of 11) to be able to ovulate. With hindsight, I am grateful any future children I might have had were spared the indignity of me watching them myopically at mealtimes – eating disorders can be hereditary, and anyway I never learned to cook or have any food in the house.
A workaholic, I'd never have put children first.

When I had my breast reduction aged 29, the surgeon warned me before I went under the anaesthetic that I would never be able to breastfeed, as the nipples would be removed, then reattached. 'Who cares?' There, right there, was the moment I realised I would always put myself first.
I sincerely hope that Katie's children – she also has Harvey, 22, from footballer Dwight Yorke; Junior, 20, with Andre and Bunny, 10, and Jett, 11, from her third marriage to former stripper Kieran Hayler – want none of the limelight and the chaos.
Wouldn't it be great if Princess eschews any accusations of being a nepo baby, changes her name and trains to be a vet or nurse - anything other than earning easy money from airing her dirty laundry in public (another trait me and the Price family have in common). We don't want to see another tragedy play out in the public eye.
Of course, being the child of a chaotic parent can sometimes mean you are determined not to follow in their footsteps.
My sister-in-law was an alcoholic who died while her two daughters were young, but that has only made my nieces determined to live stable, happy lives. Their own children are testimony to the fact the cycle can be broken.
I hope that Princess – and Katie herself – finds similar happiness.

Move over, Princess! Katie Price to front her OWN documentary about rise to fame as glamour model 30 years on from her first topless shoot - after being 'banned' from her daughter's reality show

Katie Price has landed her own bombshell documentary about her action-filled life and rise to fame - after she was 'banned' from her daughter's brand new reality TV show. The former glamour model is lifting the lid on her personal life in the series, which will coincide with the 30-year anniversary of her entry into the limelight as one of The Sun's page 3 girls. The three-part show is likely to delve into the details of the 47-year-old's fleeting flings, serious relationships and time in the spotlight. The mother-of-five shot to fame when a friend suggested she send a photo of herself to The Sun newspaper to get her modelling career off the ground. And shortly afterwards, Katie had her first photoshoot - wearing her naturally curly hair and a mini dress. The Sky docuseries is likely to air next year - and the announcement comes just days after the release of Katie's daughter's reality show by rival broadcaster ITV. The Princess Diaries explores the life of 18-year-old Princess Andre - who has had a tumultuous upbringing in the spotlight as the daughter of Katie and Peter Andre. Katie is said to be furious that she doesn't appear more prominently in her daughter's programme - although her ex Peter has a starring role. A TV source told The Sun of Katie's doc: 'This will very much be a nostalgic trip back to the wild celeb days of the Nineties and Noughties when the artist formerly known as Jordan burst onto the scene. 'But first and foremost it is an autobiographical show, and one which is likely to be seen as the most authentic version of her story.' The documentary has reportedly been made by Louis Theroux's production company Mindhouse, the source said, and will feature unseen footage from over the years. When she was the same age as her daughter is now, Katie first appeared in The Sun alongside the simple caption: 'Katie Price, aged 18, from Brighton, Sussex.' After the fateful shoot, she became one of Britain's well-known faces, and went on to have a child, Harvey, with footballer Dwight Yorke. She had a string of relationships with famous faces, including singers Gareth Gates, Dane Bowers and Peter Andre - with whom she had children Junior, 20, and Princess, 18. The mother-of-five shot to fame when a friend suggested she send a photo of herself to The Sun newspaper to get her modelling career off the ground Katie and Peter divorced after four years of marriage, and the mother then married fighter Alex Reid, before divorcing him a year later and marrying stripper Kieran Hayler in 2013. Katie and Kieran had two more children together, Jett and Bunny, but Katie has stopped sharing images of the pair online to protect them from the 'nasty' world of social media. The media personality's documentary is said to leave no question unanswered and no rumour unaddressed. And it follows reports of an alleged family 'feud' as Katie feels she has been pushed out of her daughter's show. Last week Princess hit back at claims she's embroiled in a family feud with her famous mother in an interview with the Daily Mail. Her words came after the former glamour model said she was 'upset' after alleging she was banned from filming scenes for the series, which follows a string of recent events, including her daughter's 18th birthday party, where Katie says she was also not welcome. But speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, Princess explained any fallout from Katie's outburst at not being involved in her TV debut will be dealt with behind closed doors, as she insisted: 'It's my show, it's not based on my parents, it's focused on me. To be honest there's no rift between me and either of my parents.' Viewers will see Princess celebrate turning 18 on her show and although Katie wasn't at the party, thrown by her father, the teen stands firm that her mother was never banned from attending. She said: 'What I would usually do, as I've done my whole life, would be to spend the morning with one parent and the evening with the other. 'As it happened, mum ended up being away, and dad had already decided to throw me a last-minute birthday party, which we filmed for the show.' The Princess Diaries has been months in the making and there is much hope at the network that the four-part programme will be not just a hit for them, but will catapult the 18-year-old into a household name, just as ITV did for her parents when they appeared on I'm A Celeb together. Peter - to whom Princess is extremely close - has a starring role, along with stepmother Emily and Junior. Yet Katie's only appearance in the opening episode comes in a voice note where she explains that Princess was a naughtier child than her brother. Her exclusion has prompted Katie's 'full-on rage', according to sources.

90s rocker looks unrecognisable with a full head of grey hair - can you guess who it is?

Hailing from Manchester, he shot to fame after the release of his band's debut studio album in 1989 and played a major role in shaping the Britpop era of music. But after just a few years the band began to fall apart after several lineup changes and a lengthy legal battle over their recording contract. On the eve of a world tour in April 1995, one member quit, followed by another the following year. They committed a final few shows, including a disastrous show at Reading Festival, before disbanding shortly afterwards. After months of rumours they reformed in 2011 and kicked off a world tour in 2012, finally releasing new material in 2016, but their reunion was short lived. Now with a full head of grey hair, this frontman looks a far cry from the 90s shaggy, mullet-style look for which he was known - but do you know who it is? It's Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown. Now 62, he has been working on his solo career since the band confirmed their split in 2019. Ian rose to fame as frontman of the The Stone Roses, alongside guitarist John Squire, bassist Mani and drummer Reni - forming the band in 1983 in Manchester before releasing their iconic eponymous debut album six years later. Following a legal wrangle with their record label the band returned with sophomore album Second Coming in 1994, before parting ways in 1996. Ian went on to enjoy a successful solo career, releasing seven studio albums to critical acclaim and winning numerous awards before reuniting The Stone Roses. In the 15 years after the split, Ian repeatedly blamed his songwriting partner and guitarist John Squire for the band's demise. He once said: 'If I was in the gutter and my kids lived on the curb, I'd go and get a job at B&Q before I'd reform the Roses.' Meanwhile, John claimed: 'I'd rather remove my liver with a teaspoon than reform the Roses.' However the pair's friendship did rekindle when in 2011 when they attended the funeral of guitarist Mani's mother. Over that summer, Ian was also reconciled with drummer Reni. The hitmakers then reformed in 2012 for a series of massive outdoor concerts and continued to play shows until 2017. In 2023, Ian performed at the Warehouse Project in Manchester, where a less than partisan audience watched him struggle to sing in tune. In video footage shared across social media, Brown - one of numerous special guests on the night - appeared to falter while performing his 2001 solo single F.E.A.R. In the absence of a live band, the star perplexed onlookers by singing along with a backing track, but his characteristically raspy vocals veered dangerously off-key as the song reached its climax. It came after Ian suffered a wave of backlash following a Leeds gig in September 2022 - described by fans as a 'karaoke show'. The Stone Roses star was slammed as he took to the 02 Academy stage without a band, singing to just a backing track. Writing that he had 'completely lost the plot', fans were left irate after paying up to £50 for tickets to the sold out show - which kicked off his UK tour.
