Coolie Gains More Multiplex Shows As Box Office Battle With Hrithik-Jr NTR's War 2 Heats Up
The competition between Coolie and War 2 is shaping up to be one of the year's most closely watched box office battles. The battle at the box office is heating up as Coolie steadily makes its mark against War 2 in Hindi. Initially, most single, dual, and triple screen properties across India were giving full preference to War 2, leaving only a few shows for Coolie. But the tide is shifting. Over the past four days, advance bookings for Coolie have surged, prompting cinemas to add more shows, according to Bollywood Hungama. The film, which was initially expected to earn Rs. 8 crore on its opening day, has now seen its capacity jump by 60 percent to Rs. 13 crore due to strong audience demand. While War 2 continues to lead overall Hindi screenings, Coolie has the potential to achieve higher occupancy rates in select locations where demand is strongest. Audience Demand Drives Multiplex Increase A leading multiplex executive told Bollywood Hungama, 'Coolie is performing well in tier 2 and tier 3 centres, and we are increasing the shows accordingly. Audience demand is clear, and we must match it." Another cinema owner, running a two-screen property, claimed that despite strict instructions from YRF not to give any show to Coolie, they managed to schedule two shows due to popular demand. Ticket sales for these shows have already begun picking up. The names of multiplex chains and cinema halls are being kept under wraps to protect business interests, but platforms like Book My Show are reflecting the increased availability of Coolie screenings, showing the film's growing presence in the Hindi market. The Clash Intensifies The competition between Coolie and War 2 is shaping up to be one of the year's most closely watched box office battles. With strong audience demand for both films, cinemas are quickly adjusting schedules. For moviegoers, this means more chances to catch Coolie on the big screen despite the YRF release dominating most venues. As box office numbers roll in, it will be intriguing to see whether Coolie can sustain momentum and challenge War 2's dominance in Hindi. 'War 2' advance box office report: The Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR film earns Rs 16 crore gross in advance ticket sales, momentum picks as Telugu markets opens
'War 2' is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The Hrithik Roshan , Jr NTR , Kiara Advani film is also facing a tough competition from Rajikinanth's 'Coolie' which is already having a huge advance booking. While earlier, the advance sales for 'War 2' were not extra-ordinary, the film has picked momentum just as the openings in Telugu markets have opened. Ahead of the opening of bookings in the Telugu states, 'War 2' had already grossed around ₹10 crore (with block seats) for its Hindi version's first day. However, once sales began in the Telugu markets, momentum picked up sharply, with BookMyShow logging over 20,000 tickets sold per hour for the first time. This boost is expected to spill over into the Hindi belt as well just as the film releases. At present, Coolie is leading the advance booking race, having already hit an opening-day worldwide gross of ₹75 crore, of which ₹30 crore of which comes from India and this data was till Wednesday afternoon. According to Sacnilk, the film has made Rs 16 crore so far on Day 1 as the gross number and this is the figure from advance sales excluding the block bookings. However, with the block bookings, the advance day 1 number is Rs 28 crore as of now. However, according to Box Office India, Trade analysts caution, that these numbers don't yet point to an 'huge blockbuster type of weekend', the kind the industry hopes for with such big-budget spectacles. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Serbia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo 'War 2' may look underwhelming when compared to some past juggernauts, but the ratio of advance sales to first-day collections has changed in recent years, making direct parallels tricky. Some previous 'big ones,' as the trade hints, even had 'advances which were tampered putting it in a nice way.' By contrast, War 2's advance numbers are twice that of recent big titles like 'Raid 2' and 'Housefull 5'. Regional performance of the film will also be a mixed bag. 'War 2' is expected to underperform in Maharashtra, Gujarat, East Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, just as Pathaan, Jawan, and Animal did, but it will need to make up for this shortfall in other territories, as those films managed to do. The Telugu-dubbed version could perform well thanks to JR NTR's presence, who is a massive star in the Nizam/Andhra belt. One already senses that as the fil has suddenly picked momentum, just as the Telugu markets have opened. Still, 'Coolie' will be a formidable rival, even outside its home Tamil market. Eventually, the content of both these movies and word of mouth will eventually decide the fate of both these movies while the weekend performance will be crucial for deciding among these.

Trump Tariffs To Have Limited Impact On India's Growth, FY26 Forecast At 6.5%: S&P
S&P says India's GDP likely to grow 6.5% in FY26 despite 50% US duty on Russian oil-linked imports. India's economy is unlikely to face a major slowdown despite higher US tariffs, S&P Global Ratings said on Wednesday, August 13, nearly a week after a 25 percent duty on Indian goods came into effect and American President Donald Trump announced an additional 25 percent levy linked to Russian oil imports. 'We don't think tariffs imposed on India would have much of an impact on economic growth," said YeeFarn Phua, director for sovereign and international public finance ratings, Asia, at S&P Global Ratings, according to a report by Moneycontrol. The agency expects India's GDP to grow 6.5 percent in FY26. Phua told Moneycontrol that exemptions for electronics, especially smartphones and pharmaceuticals will cushion the impact, while India's export exposure to the US is modest at around 2 percent of GDP. Analysts also point to the country's large domestic market as a continued draw for investors, even under higher tariff regimes. India exported goods worth $86.5 billion to the US in FY25, with about 55 percent of this trade at risk from the new duties. The remainder falls under exemption or exclusion categories. The initial 25 percent US tariff is on top of most-favoured nation rates, while the Russia-linked penalty, which doubles tariffs to 50 percent on imports from countries buying Russian oil, will be applicable from August 27, putting India among the most tariffed nations alongside Brazil. An analysis by Moneycontrol estimated India's effective tariff rate at about 32 percent, more than double the Southeast Asian average. Their analysis highlighted that the government expects GDP growth to remain above 6 percent, aided by a favourable monsoon and stable crude oil prices. 'The positive outlook for India remains," Phua was quoted as saying. S&P sees the most pronounced tariff effects within one to two years but cautions that uncertainty could dampen investment sentiment for longer. 'Everyone would minimise their investment to relatively safe levels," said Kim Eng Tan, senior director for APAC sovereign ratings at S&P, while speaking to the outlet. view comments First Published: August 13, 2025, 21:51 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
