Yaduveer dismisses claim that Tipu Sultan laid foundation for KRS dam
Yaduveer Wadiyar
dismissed minister HC Mahadevappa's claim that Mysuru ruler
Tipu Sultan
laid the foundation for the
KRS dam
, calling it "baseless" and "humorous."
Yaduveer, who is the scion of the Mysuru royal family, stated there is no evidence supporting this, emphasising that historical records clearly document the dam's origins.
"Everyone knows who built the KRS dam.
During Tipu's rule, temples were demolished, and pregnant women were killed. We should not manipulate history," he told reporters.
He accused politicians of manipulating history for electoral gains, urging them to present verified facts. Yaduveer also criticised Tipu's legacy, citing documented atrocities, and advised focusing on constructive work instead.

India's education system transformed in last few years: Min
1 2 Berhampur: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said the country's higher education ecosystem has transformed a lot in the last few years, and India has become the favourite destination of global educational institutions. While several global institutes have opened their campuses in the country, others are in the pipeline. Some of our institutes also opened their campuses in foreign countries. IIM Ahmedabad will soon open its campus in Dubai, said Pradhan, while addressing the convocation at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Berhampur. Highlighting the growth of education in the country, he said the total enrolment of students touched around 4.46 crore in 2022-23, a 30% increase since 2014-15. The female enrolment during the period grew by around 38 to 40%. "This indicates the govt's commitment towards inclusive education," he said. The govt implemented the New Education Policy-2020, keeping an eye on achieving India as a developed nation by 2047—the Viksit Bharat, call of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Urging the students to become "job creators and not be job-seekers," he said they should be involved in innovation. Addressing the convocation of Berhampur University earlier, he urged the students to work hard to achieve the Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat in 2036 and 2047, respectively, as called by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Bharat number one in economics in the world. Odisha will celebrate its centenary of statehood in the next 11 years, while the country celebrates its centenary of achievement of freedom in 2047. The young students should play a key role in achieving the Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat in the next 11 and 22 years, said Pradhan. University is not an institute to teach, but it should be involved in research and evolve innovations, he said. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati addressed the convocations of both the institutes and highlighted the growth of the education ecosystem of the country in the last few years, which makes it flexible and innovation-driven. Ashok Kumar Ganguli, director, IISER Berhampur, highlighted the achievements of the institute. In the convocation, 136 BS-MS, one MS degree, and 22 PhD students received their degrees. The governor inaugurated the state-of-the-art "central advanced instrumentation facility" on the IISER campus. Berhampur University awarded honorary to Ajit Kumar Mohanty, secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, Tessy Thomas, former Director General, Aeronautical Systems, DRDO and known as the "Missile Woman of India," and Raimati Ghiuria, seed custodian, well known as Millet Queen. The family of five, blessed with three boys, was happy to greet the CM and tied rakhi on his wrist. Naidu spent nearly 20 minutes in the house and interacted with Kondamma's children. IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh celebrated the festival in Mangalagiri. "I consider all women of Mangalagiri as my sisters, as I do not have a sister of my own. Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains performs shoe service at Anandpur Sahib as religious penance
Anandpur Sahib (Ropar): Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains on Saturday performed 'Jode Di Sewa' (shoe service) at Gurdwara Sri Sishganj Sahib in Anandpur Sahib of Ropar district, as part of a series of religious penances imposed by the Akal Takht over a recent controversy at a Punjab govt event held in Srinagar to commemorate the 350th martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. After paying obeisance and offering prayers, Bains, while undergoing penance, performed the 'sewa' for around one-and-a-half hours until 9.30am on Saturday. He announced that he would carry out services on Sunday too at the same gurdwara. Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism, issued the directives after Bains appeared before the five Sikh priests (Singh Sahiban) on Aug 6 to clarify his role in the official Punjab govt event held in Srinagar. The programme, held last month, drew criticism after videos surfaced showing bhangra performances and songs during the solemn occasion, an act widely condemned by Sikh organisations as a breach of Sikh maryada (code of conduct). Acknowledging his lapse in judgment, Bains admitted he had neither stopped nor objected to the inappropriate proceedings. He expressed apology to the Sikh community for the distress caused. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo Following deliberations, the Akal Takht directed Bains to undertake a barefoot pilgrimage from the Golden Temple to Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, visit Gurdwara Kotha Sahib and Gurdwara Baba Bakala, and offer prayers at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Delhi. His penance also includes two days of voluntary service — cleaning footwear, sweeping gurdwara premises in Anandpur Sahib — preparing a deg (community kitchen offering) worth Rs 1,100, and participating in ardas seeking forgiveness. In a rare addition to such religious directives, Bains has also been tasked with supervising and ensuring repairs to approach roads leading to sacred sites, integrating infrastructure work into the act of atonement. The Akal Takht emphasised that while the govt may hold educational and awareness events on Sikh gurus, the sanctity of such occasions must be preserved, with future programmes organised in consultation with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Accepting the Tankah with humility, Bains said he would fulfil each directive in letter and spirit. "As a devout Sikh, I see this as both a personal responsibility and a spiritual duty," he said in Anandpur Sahib. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
