Did Mohau Nkota just commit football's biggest sin in a radio interview?

Former Orlando Pirates starlet Mohau Nkota may have committed one of football's cardinal sins – speaking too honestly about his future plans – in a recent interview.
Nkota impressed in his debut season with Orlando Pirates. Recently, he completed a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq. There, he will play alongside Gini Wijnaldum and Mousa Dembele.
It's a huge move for the 20-year-old, who not too long ago was running rings around defenders in the DStv Diski Challenge, and who will now face some of the world's best players – Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Karim Benzema, and others.
Speaking on Sports Night Amplified, he revealed he was not planning on spending more than three years at the club, something the coach and supporters might not be too happy to hear him say.

'I know a lot of people might say that it's where most players retire, but for me, starting there is an opportunity,' the youngster said.
'I don't think I'm going to finish my three seasons because I'm going there to work… The money is good, but there's more to it than that. We all want financial security, but my dream is to play in the top leagues.'
The Saudi Pro League has long been labelled a 'retirement league' because it often attracts big-name stars in the twilight of their careers, lured by lucrative contracts and a slower competitive pace compared to Europe's top leagues. However, recent seasons have seen younger talents making the move, aiming to prove themselves on a growing stage and perhaps use the platform as a springboard to Europe.
Nkota, at just 20 years old, could position himself as part of this new wave – provided his performances back up his ambition. While it could be seen as an open secret that players tend to use clubs as stepping stones, it's never a good idea to admit that openly.
Such comments could damage how the club's fans, coaches, and even teammates perceive him. Supporters want to believe a player is fully committed to their cause, while coaches value those motivated to succeed for the club rather than simply using it as a stepping stone. Teammates – especially those who see the team as their pinnacle rather than a pit stop – may also interpret his remarks as arrogant or disrespectful.
Ultimately, Nkota's talent and ambition are undeniable, but in football, perception can be just as important as performance. If he hits the ground running in Saudi Arabia, scores goals, and helps his team win, fans may overlook his comments.
But if results don't go his way, those same words could come back to haunt him. For now, his boots will have to do the talking – because winning hearts off the pitch might prove just as challenging as beating defenders on it.

Orlando Pirates predicted XI that can beat Sundowns in the MTN8

Orlando Pirates face their toughest test of the season as they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-finals. The two giants play each other in the semi-finals of the MTN8 first leg at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Last season, the two teams played twice in the league and claimed a win each, with eight goals being scored. This weekend, fans are expecting another breathtaking encounter at the Orlando Stadium. The first leg will give football fans an indication on how far the teams are from each other this season. Sipho Chaine (GK) Chaine has been the number one keeper since 2023 and his place in the team is not being threatened. He is expected to start most matches for Pirates this season. Deano van Rooyen (RB) The ex-Stellenbosch right-back has not seen much game time under Ouaddou, but his experience and work rate can come in handy on Saturday. Nkosinathi Sibisi (CB) Sibisi missed Tuesday's match against Marumo Gallants but is expected to return for the Downs match. His leadership was missed midweek and him returning to the team will stabilise the defence. Mbekezile Mbokazi (CB) The 19-year-old centre-back has made some mistakes in two of the last matches for Orlando Pirates. Against Sundowns, the youngster needs to be solid and help keep a clean sheet. Deon Hotto (LB) The Sea Robbers needed to find a quality left-back but now have to convert Hotto into a defender. Rian Hanamub and Fawaaz Basadien were available at some point; however, the club chose to bring the likes of Nkosikhona Ndaba. Makhehlene Makhaula (DM) The veteran midfielder has been an engine in the Bucs midfield for Jose Riveiro over the years. His presence is missed and Ouaddou should look at bringing him back in the starting eleven. Sipho Mbule (CM) Mbule needs time to find his feet, but so far so good. His combination with Makhaula and Tito can help Pirates this season if the trio are allowed to play together. Patrick Maswanganyi (AM) Tito looked like he wanted to play against Gallants. If he can rediscover his 2023/24 form, then Orlando Pirates will win big games especially against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns. An in-form Tito is bad news for PSL teams. Relebohile Mofokeng (LW) Mofokeng needs to start on the left, even if it means benching Oswin Appollis. The 20-year-old needs to play alongside the likes of Tito and Hotto, instead of the new players. Tshepang Moremi (RW) Moremi has not shown his true quality but with time, he will get goals and create chances. He has had his moments in the few games he played and perhaps the Sundowns match is what he needs to announce himself to the Bucs faithful. Tshegofatso Mabasa (ST) Mabasa is still the best Orlando Pirates striker and should be a starter. Playing the likes of Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma against Sundowns might be suicidal. Maema braces for tough tie against Niger as Bafana push for a quarterfinal spot in Chan

Bafana Bafana cannot be ahead of themselves and think they are favourites in Group C to qualify for the quarterfinals in the African Nations Championships (Chan) under way in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The team's skipper Neo Maema told TimesLIVE from Kampala, Uganda, on Wednesday that Bafana need to win their third group match against Niger at Mandela National Stadium at 7pm on Friday to be in a good position to secure their place in the last eight. Other teams that look good to go with Bafana to the last eight are hosts Uganda, who are on top of the group with six points after two games. Algeria cannot be ruled out as they are level on four points with Molefi Ntseki's team after two games. Only the two top teams progress to the knockout rounds in the four groups in the tournament. Bafana have done well since they arrived in Uganda after opening their campaign with a credible 1-1 draw against Algeria before winning 2-1 in their second match against Guinea. 'There are no guarantees for now that we'll be in the next round,' warned Maema, who may be loaned by Mamelodi Sundowns to Tanzania's Simba SC after this tournament.

Coach comments on Kaizer Chiefs' current best player

Aden McCarthy has wasted no time making a name for himself at Kaizer Chiefs while Rushwin Dortley is injured. In his very first league start for Kaizer Chiefs, the 21-year-old left central defender walked away with the Man of the Match award against Stellenbosch FC, and then went and did it again in the next game against Polokwane City. Two back-to-back awards for a player still finding his feet in top-flight football is no small feat, and it's turning heads across the Betway Premiership. Orlando Pirates news: Another player gone and Saleng finds love According to his assistant coach Cedric Kaze, McCarthy's hot streak isn't just raw talent. It's about the discipline he's shown behind the scenes and the trust the technical team has placed in him. 'He's a good listener, he works hard, and he takes instructions seriously,' Kaze told the media. 'That's why he's able to step up and perform at this level,' the Rwandan coach added. Orlando Pirates full list: 16 players gone 'He's a very nice kid, very professional in a way that he conducts himself inside and outside the field. Another thing that I would say about him is that he's a player who listens a lot. 'And he's always with Zitha [Kwinika] and Miguel. He is always with those players because he knows that their experience can help him. I'm pretty sure that without injuries, he'll probably go far because he's a player with quality,' concluded Kaze.
