Setback for AAP as 15 councillors resign from party over
The councillors led by Himani Jain and Mukesh Goel flagged internal conflicts behind their resignation. They formed a new political party named the 'Indraprastha Vikas Party.'
Speaking to ANI, Himani Jain and Mukesh Goel stated that no significant work had been completed in the municipal corporation over the past 2.5 years due to internal conflicts.
'We have formed a new party, Indraprastha Vikas Party. We have resigned from AAP. In the last 2.5 years, no work was done in the corporation which should have been done. We were in power, yet we did nothing... We have formed a new party because our ideology is to work for the development of Delhi... We will support the party which will work for the development of Delhi. So far, 15 councillors have resigned. More may join...,' Jain said.
Mukesh Goel said, 'About 15 councillors have resigned from the primary membership of Aam Aadmi Party and formed a new party, Indraprastha Vikas Party. Despite being in power, we could not work for the service of the people of Delhi. We could not work due to internal conflicts...'
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Priyanka Kakkar alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to lure AAP councillors with financial incentives following the resignation of several councillors from the party.
The AAP leader accused the BJP of resorting to such tactics to bolster its position in the municipal body.
Speaking to ANI, Kakkar claimed, 'We had also told during the mayor election how the BJP had offered Rs five crore to our councillors to join their party. This time also they are trying to buy councillors, because the BJP still does not have enough members to form a standing committee or a ward committee, so they are trying these things...' (ANI)

Govt nod to 93 additional LCA Mk 1 jets for IAF
THE CABINET Committee on Security Tuesday cleared the procurement of 97 LCA Mk 1 A light combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force, sources confirmed to The Indian Express. When inducted, the additional indigenous jets will be a boost to the dwindling fighter squadrons of the IAF. The order was already in the pipeline. Their procurement was cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in 2023. Earlier, the IAF had placed an order for 83 LCA Mk 1 A jets in February 2021. Subsequently, in August 2021, the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited placed an order worth Rs 5,375 crore for 99 F404 engines with GE Aerospace to power the indigenously made Tejas Mk-1A. The first of these jet engines was delivered to HAL after a delay of nearly a year and a half, in April this year. The second engine was delivered last month. The engine deliveries were delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues. Twelve Light Combat Aircraft Tejas will be ready to be rolled out by December this year, of which six aircraft have already been lined up, government officials had said. The timely induction of the indigenous fighter jets, including Tejas Mk 1A, is crucial to holding the IAF's dwindling squadron strength. The IAF has phased out most of its MiG-21 squadrons, and early next decade, it is likely to begin phasing out other ageing fighter squadrons. According to officials, HAL plans to produce 16 fighter jets next year provided the engine deliveries from the US are on schedule. The original plans were to produce 16 aircraft every year and complete deliveries of all jets by 2030.

Govt. distributed substandard flags: AAP, BJP hits back
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 'looted' crores of rupees under a 'Tiranga scam' in Delhi, claiming that the government-selected company supplied 'substandard flags' for the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. The BJP hit back by terming the claims 'false'. Senior AAP leader and MP Sanjay Singh alleged that the Delhi government allocated ₹4 crore to distribute seven lakh national flags under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, but instead of the tender-mandated size, more miniature flags were supplied. He also alleged that the cost of each flag was fixed at ₹60, but a company selected by the government delivered substandard flags worth ₹15. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Singh alleged that each flag was to be 900 mm x 1,350 mm in size, supported with a 6-foot pole. 'But the self-styled nationalists of the BJP even committed fraud in the flag and the pole. The flags supplied were reduced to 711 mm in length and 508 mm in width, while the pole was cut down from 6 feet to 4 feet. The BJP government committed a scam in the name of the flag,' he said. 'How can any party, in the purchase of the Tiranga – the pride and honour of India – commit a scam? But this is what the BJP has done. The Delhi BJP government under CM Rekha Gupta has committed corruption in buying the Tiranga,' he added. Taking to X, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said, 'Politics on the Tiranga, business on the Tiranga, and now a scam on the Tiranga. Such scamsters deserve to face sedition charges.' Responding to allegations, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor claimed that for the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, the Delhi government procured flags through a complete tender process, strictly following rules, and the purchase was done via a government portal. The GAD (General Administration Department) finalised the procurement contract on August 8, and all purchases were made as per regulations, he added. '[AAP leader] Sanjay Singh is a merchant of lies. The AAP party, which never celebrated the Tricolour Festival, is now raising false questions about the Delhi government's transparent 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. The people of Delhi have not forgotten the propaganda scam under the name of the Tiranga campaign by the [Arvind] Kejriwal government in 2022,' he said.

Oppn protests kirtan singer's threat to Thorat
Pune: Opposition members stood in support of senior Congress member Balasaheb Thorat after kirtan singer Sangram Bhandare allegedly said he would take Nathuram Godse's path against the former minister even as BJP and Shiv Sena sided with him. Thorat slammed Bhandare's remarks on Tuesday. He told reporters in Ahilyanagar: "I am not Mahatma Gandhi, but I will be happy to sacrifice my life for my ideology. This behaviour does not suit a person who claims to be from the warkari community." The problem flared up last week following two kirtan sessions by Bhandare in Sangamner tehsil. Thorat and his supporters claimed that in the first session, Bhandare made political statements in support of BJP members, including cabinet minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil — an arch-rival of Thorat. In the second session, Thorat's supporters objected to certain comments made by the singer. This led to a ruckus. Later, Bhandare recorded a video warning Thorat that he would act like Nathuram Godse if the former minister indulged in politics of religion. State Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal said, "Bhandare has given an open threat to Thorat and the BJP-led govt is supporting him. Working president Supriya Sule said, "The warkari community preaches spirituality and harmony. However, some people are misusing the platform to make violent remarks. I request the state home minister to take cognisance of the threat and take action." Mahayuti members blamed Thorat for the incident. Shiv Sena MLA Amol Khatal, who defeated Thorat in Sangamner, said, "Bhandare came to Sangamner for kirtan. He has his own style of performing where he preaches about Hindutva. On the said day, he also mentioned Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb. Thorat's supporters created a ruckus and tried to attack him. We will not tolerate such behaviour against kirtan singers.
