Two teenagers killed in crash involving car found with drugs in Temerloh
In the 11pm incident, Nur Irdina Shaffiya Muhammad Nazri and her pillion rider, Aneez Irdiena Sofya Khairul Azman, both 18, died on the spot at a traffic light junction along Jalan Tengku Ismail here.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the 38-year-old driver of a Perodua Bezza, from Kuala Lumpur, who crashed into the teenagers, escaped unhurt.
"The motorcycle and the Bezza were both travelling from Mentakab towards the Bukit Angin roundabout in Temerloh.
"Nur Irdina had stopped her Yamaha Ego Avantiz motorcycle at the traffic light when the Bezza rammed into them, killing both victims instantly," he said in a statement today.
He said that during an inspection of the vehicle at the Temerloh district police headquarters around 12.30am, police found two packets containing a crystalline substance believed to be syabu, weighing 50.85g, and heroin weighing 0.85g, with a total estimated value of RM6,100 in the rear seat.
Mazlan said the driver tested negative for drugs but is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction. He is expected to be remanded today.
The bodies of both victims have been sent to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital for post-mortem.

BANGKOK: The Thai government will provide compensation to two Malaysian tourists who were set on fire by an unemployed man on Ratchadamri Road here. Natreeya said the condition of both victims have significantly improved, with the female tourist now able to communicate through writing. The two Malaysians, Gan Xiao Zhen, 27, and Ong Yik Leong, 26, were attacked by an unemployed man who doused them with thinner before setting them alight near a shopping mall on Ratchadamri Road at around 10pm on Thursday. Gan is currently receiving treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital for second-degree burns on over 36% of her body, while Ong is being treated in the intensive care unit at Police General Hospital for second-degree burns to his upper body. – Bernama

Filipino Al Basar Baluan Awah, 37, Tailon Chong Shih Wen, 40, and paperless Filipino Abdul Aidil Duing, 33, were brought before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to face the charges against them, respectively. Drug mule nabbed at Miri Airport with RM238,000 worth of meth, cannabis

MIRI (Aug 8): Police foiled an attempt to smuggle in drugs with the arrest of a local man at the Miri Airport arrival hall on Aug 4. Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the 32-year-old suspect, believed to be a drug mule, was found carrying 6.4kg of methamphetamine and 66.7g of cannabis in his backpack upon arrival at 10.40pm. 'The drugs, believed to be meant for distribution in Miri and the surrounding areas, have a street value of RM238,801. 'Investigations revealed he received the drugs from a syndicate in the peninsula and was paid RM8,000,' he told a press conference today. Mohd Farhan said the suspect was also tested positive for methamphetamine, and has been remanded until Aug 12 for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane. Mohd Farhan thanked the public for channelling information that led to the arrest, and called for continued support in combating drug-related crimes in the district.
