CM Yogi refutes school closure claims; highlights UP's education, employment gains
Speaking in the Assembly, CM Adityanath clarified that schools with fewer than 50 students and located within a one-kilometre radius are being merged under a 'school pairing' initiative to create integrated campuses with improved infrastructure.
'Our aim is to achieve a 22:1 student–teacher ratio and enhance education quality,' he said.
Highlighting pre-2017 conditions, CM Adityanath said 1.56 lakh basic and affiliated schools faced poor infrastructure, an imbalanced student–teacher ratio, and the highest dropout rate in the country.
Under programmes like 'School Chalo Abhiyan' and 'Operation Kayakalp', community members and public representatives were encouraged to adopt schools, leading to upgrades such as smart classes, digital libraries, solar power, playgrounds, and better seating. Students now receive two uniforms, bags, books, shoes, and socks free of cost.
Bal Vatika and pre-primary classes for children aged 3–6 years are being introduced, while a Rs 100 crore CM Nutrition Mission package will address malnutrition and anaemia among children. Since 2017, UP has recorded 40 lakh new school enrollments and a sharp fall in dropout rates.
CM Adityanath also cited progress in higher and technical education, including courses in AI, Robotics, and Space Technology in 150 government ITIs, the establishment of 71 new government colleges, and the renovation of 75-year-old inter colleges.
On employment, CM Adityanath claimed 8.5 lakh jobs have been given since 2017, including to 1.75 lakh women, boosting female workforce participation from 13.5 per cent to 35 per cent and reducing unemployment from 19 per cent to 3 per cent.
Through CM YUVA, 1.65 crore youth have found jobs, while UP now hosts 7,200 startups and 50 incubators.
CM Adityanath added, "In the police force, 62,200 new personnel have been recruited. Training capacity has expanded from 3,000 to 60,000, and residential facilities have been upgraded from dilapidated barracks to modern high-rise complexes."
Cybercrime, identified as a major challenge, is now being tackled with one cyber police station in each of the 75 districts, compared to just one in Gautam Buddha Nagar before 2017.
A dedicated cyber headquarters is being established, and cyber help desks are now operational in every police station in the state.

New Delhi: Delhi University's decision to ask the candidates contesting the DU Students' Union (DUSU) elections to deposit a Rs 1-lakh refundable bond has prompted a rare unanimity among student groups, with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to National Students' Union of India (NSUI) joining Left outfits in demanding its withdrawal. Police given free hand to maintain harmony in DK: Dinesh Gundu Rao
1 2 3 4 5 6 Mangaluru: Minister for health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao said that the govt has taken recent murder cases in Dakshina Kannada district seriously and has established a Special Action Force to prevent communal clashes. During the Independence Day celebration held at Nehru Maidan on Friday, the minister said that the police department was given full responsibility to maintain peace and order in the district without any external pressure. "To understand the root of communal issues, peace and harmony meetings have been held with district representatives and leaders from various fields, and several measures are being implemented based on the consensus reached in these meetings," he said. To maintain peace and order in the district, religious leaders from temples, mosques, and churches should educate people at their respective religious centres, he suggested. "It is important to make the community understand that development is possible through harmony. Artistes in fields such as art, drama, and Yakshagana should focus more on conveying messages of harmony. Everyone should join hands for the comprehensive development of the district without allowing violence," the minister said. The district, known for its unique features in education, healthcare, tourism, and religion, also made significant contributions to the freedom movement, which is a matter of pride. The govt has been responding positively to the development of Dakshina Kannada district. Priority has been given to strengthening basic infrastructure and providing better civic amenities in all towns and rural areas of the district. Notably, there was an unprecedented response from the Dakshina Kannada district to all five major guarantee schemes of the state govt. Under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, a total assistance of Rs 1,377 crore was sanctioned to 3.7 lakh women in the district so far, he said. Shivakumar camp seeks Vokkaliga–Panchamasali unity to bolster CM bid
Bengaluru: In an effort to get Congress' high command to honour a reported power-sharing pact and make DK Shivakumar chief minister in Nov, the deputy CM's loyalists are working on forging an alliance between Vokkaligas and Panchamasali Lingayats to expand his support base. Both communities, predominantly agrarian, have strongholds in south and north Karnataka respectively. The strategy, sources say, is to unite them under the shared theme of agriculture. With Panchamasalis accounting for about 60% of the Lingayat population, Shivakumar's camp believes that amassing them under the Vokkaliga functionary could help him gain acceptance in northern districts and secure pan-Karnataka popularity.
