GHMC ramps up anti-larval ops to combat mosquito menace

According to GHMC, in the month of July, they conducted anti-larvae operations and awareness programs in more than 15,500 colonies to safeguard residents against mosquito bites in the city.
As many as, 34,45,000 households have been inspected two or three times, and it was confirmed that 1.5 per cent of the houses are affected by larvae.
Additionally, awareness programs were held in 1,700 schools and 320 colleges about the use of Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) for the same.
Health workers and entomology teams are continuing their efforts to educate citizens and eliminate breeding spots, while Commissioner RV Karnan is monitoring the activities being carried out every day to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases, especially dengue, malaria and chikungunya, during the rainy season.
GHMC advises citizens to stay alert and act smart. The advisory issued says: 'See waterlogging? Don't risk it. Take a detour — and report it to GHMC. Loose wires or electric poles? Stay away, call GHMC Helpline: 040-21111111. Even a bottle cap can breed mosquitoes, empty it. Feeling feverish? Don't ignore it — get tested early. Avoid parking under trees during heavy winds.'

GHMC gets cracking on clean-up push; employees swing into action
Hyderabad: Following the rains, the city's public health infrastructure is taking center stage. The special sanitation initiative for the monsoon, which commenced on July 29 within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), is currently in full operation. Having already been completed in 30 wards, this special monsoon sanitation program is set to be effectively rolled out across a total of 150 wards by August 8. The city is on track to become a 'Healthy and Clean Hyderabad' under the leadership of Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi and Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha, guided by GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan. As part of the initiative, sanitation workers are diligently clearing away solid waste, construction and demolition debris, green waste, excess waste produced by the engineering and urban biodiversity departments, as well as silt deposits that have accumulated from rainfall. These sanitation efforts are conducted daily from 5:30 am to 1:30 pm, following the regular sanitation programs. Commissioner RV Karnan is closely monitoring the execution of the Monsoon Special Drive and is carrying out surprise inspections each morning. Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Health Department Officers, SWM Engineers, Circle Managers, and Entomologists are actively engaging at the field level to ensure the effective implementation of this initiative by assessing its progress in LB Nagar, Charminar, Kukatpally, and Khairatabad zones thus far and gathering information about the ongoing field activities. To prevent breeding of mosquitoes, officials are actively going door to door to promote the necessary precautions. They are handing out specially crafted pamphlets to residents in the city to raise awareness about insect-borne illnesses such as dengue and malaria. The local authorities are reaching out to the citizens to emphasize the significance of public cooperation for a Healthy Hyderabad. They urge everyone to work together with the sanitation teams and refrain from littering in public areas. They are highlighting that maintaining a clean environment is crucial for preventing disease spread and promoting public health. On Wednesday, the GHMC initiated special sanitation initiatives in Vittalwadi Colony, located in Himayat Nagar. The Corporator and Deputy Commissioner took an active role in the drive, conducting awareness programs that encouraged public involvement. They successfully cleared away garbage, litter, and silt that had built up due to flooding. Thanks to this initiative, the sanitation situation, which had become chaotic because of the rains, saw significant improvement. The team went from door to door, informing residents about the necessary precautions to prevent mosquito breeding, mosquito bites, and dengue. Pamphlets were also distributed to further educate the community.

GHMC rolls out special monsoon drive to tackle host of civic woes
Hyderabad: To prevent disease outbreaks and ensure public safety during the rainy season, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday launched a citywide special monsoon drive. The drive focuses on clearing garbage, repairing potholes, removing construction debris, controlling mosquito breeding and inspecting homes in dengue-affected areas. A special monsoon drive is being held across all 150 wards from July 29 to August 8. According to GHMC, the initiative will involve intensive sanitation from 5.30 am to 1.30 pm, covering 15 wards each day, in addition to regular sanitation activities. The drive focus on clearing garbage vulnerable points (GVPs), removing construction and demolition (C&D) waste, municipal solid waste (MSW), green waste and silt from recent rains. On Tuesday, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan conducted a field inspection in several areas of Charminar and LB Nagar zones. As part of this drive, sanitation workers removed the garbage accumulated on roads, colonies and public places. Steps were taken to clean the sewers and prevent water from stagnating. Entomology wing officials carried out fogging and anti-larvae operations to prevent mosquito infestation. Karnan urged everyone to prioritize sanitation. He called on the public to refrain from littering the streets and instead dispose of waste in designated dustbins. The commissioner said, 'As many as 18,500 sanitation workers, 2,500 mosquito control personnel, supervisors and assistant entomologists and senior GHMC officials were deployed. Also, each zone has been allocated Rs 5 crore to carry out the drive effectively,' said Karnan. He emphasized that garbage should be given to the Swachh autos that visit homes, explaining that maintaining a clean environment can help prevent the spread of diseases. Local public representatives and members of colony welfare associations are also encouraged to join this initiative, offering their assistance and taking responsibility for enhancing the cleanliness of the community. Following the field inspection, the Commissioner instructed the officials on the necessary actions to successfully implement the drive. Given that diseases are prone to spread during the current monsoon season, it is essential for everyone to work together to enhance the effectiveness of this sanitation drive. He instructed the Additional Commissioners to ensure that sufficient vehicles are arranged through the plant agency, enabling the swift removal of C&D waste. Additionally, he directed to take appropriate action in accordance with the regulations against those who fail to prepare the required vehicles. He was accompanied by LB Nagar Zonal Commissioner Hemant Keshav Patil and other senior officials. Later, Karnan, along with Charminar MLA Zulfiqar Ali, MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig, Corporators Mohammad Mustafa Ali, Syed Sohail Qadri and Charminar Zonal Commissioner Venkanna, visited the Charminar and its surroundings. The Commissioner directed the officials to expedite the completion of civic amenities and development projects, ensuring that the unique character of this historically significant area is maintained.
