A PROJECT manager arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged corruption involving a data centre project tender tried to burn nearly RM1mil in RM100 banknotes to destroy evidence out of panic during the raid.
The raid was conducted at his Petaling Jaya home last Thursday (July 17).
MACC officers discovered thick smoke from the bathroom where the cash was being burnt. The raid also uncovered RM7.5mil in cash hidden in pillow boxes, along with luxury watches — Rolex, Omega, and Cartier — plus jewellery and gold coins.
Bernama reported that MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest, stating the suspect could face charges under the Penal Code and the MACC Act.
Ahmad Khusairi said the suspect's attempt to destroy evidence is a serious offence under Section 201 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to seven years ' jail and a fine.
However, the main investigation focuses on bribery and corporate liability under Sections 16 and 17A of the MACC Act 2009. — July 19, 2025

SEMPORNA: A local scuba diving instructor has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a 34-year-old tourist following a dispute stemming from a diving trip incident. The altercation traces back to Tuesday (July 22), when both men were on board a boat heading towards the waters off Pulau Timba-Timba for a scuba diving session. During the trip, the tourist's oxygen tank accidentally toppled over and landed on the instructor's foot, which caused him to become upset. The situation escalated the next day when the 38-year-old instructor, after receiving medical treatment at Tawau Hospital, returned to the tour company to confront the tourist and demand compensation. A heated argument ensued, during which the suspect allegedly assaulted the man and threatened further harm. A video of the altercation has since gone viral on social media. In the footage, the instructor is seen slapping the tourist in the face while arguing with him and a woman believed to be accompanying the tourist. The trio were speaking in Mandarin during the exchange. After being slapped, the tourist is heard asking someone off-camera, 'Have you called the police?' Meanwhile, the woman can be heard repeatedly telling the instructor, 'Does it have anything to do with us?' Semporna acting OCPD Deputy Supt Jaafar Hakim confirmed that the suspect was arrested and the case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Police are urging eyewitnesses to come forward and assist in the investigation. KOTA KINABALU (July 24): A businessman pleaded not guilty in a Sessions Court here today to three charges of cheating in connection with the acquisition of an honorary 'Dato'' title. Datuk Ling How Ee, 40, entered his plea before judge Jason Juga, who had the charges read to him in Mandarin. Ling is accused of dishonestly inducing a man to transfer RM2,500, RM500, and RM3,000 into his bank account for the purported purchase of gold accessories for ceremonial attire, and to assist in securing a 'Dato'' title from Pahang, despite having no authority to do so. The alleged offences took place at a bank branch here on April 19, April 20 and May 17, 2023. All the charges fall under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment between one and ten years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. The court set September 3 for pre-trial case management. Ling was granted bail of RM10,000 with a RM3,000 deposit and one local surety. Additional conditions imposed included reporting to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) once every two months, surrendering his passport to the court (if any), and refraining from contacting or interfering with prosecution witnesses. He was represented by counsel Ngui Kuang Kee @ George Ngui. Ling was arrested on July 2 after giving a statement at the Sabah MACC Office.
