Project manager tried to burn RM1mil cash during MACC raid
The raid was conducted at his Petaling Jaya home last Thursday (July 17).
MACC officers discovered thick smoke from the bathroom where the cash was being burnt. The raid also uncovered RM7.5mil in cash hidden in pillow boxes, along with luxury watches — Rolex, Omega, and Cartier — plus jewellery and gold coins.
Bernama reported that MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest, stating the suspect could face charges under the Penal Code and the MACC Act.
Ahmad Khusairi said the suspect's attempt to destroy evidence is a serious offence under Section 201 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to seven years ' jail and a fine.
However, the main investigation focuses on bribery and corporate liability under Sections 16 and 17A of the MACC Act 2009. — July 19, 2025

Notorious gang leader killed in shootout
Reign of terror: Police collecting evidence at the scene of the shootout along Jalan Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur. — Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: A notorious local gang leader with a long criminal record was killed in a dramatic shootout with the police on Jalan Bukit Tunku here. The 4.10am operation yesterday was part of a special initiative codenamed 'Ops Api KL', led by the Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department (CID) in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Police. Acting Bukit Aman CID director Deputy Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the 36-year-old Malaysian man was believed to be the mastermind behind a criminal syndicate involved in house break-ins, armed robbery and drug distribution across Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Selangor since last year, resulting in more than RM1mil in losses. 'The suspect, who was shot dead at the scene, is believed to be the leader of a gang that has been actively targeting homes and business premises with safes, gold and cash,' he told reporters. Also at the scene were Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari and other CID officers. DCP Fadil said the suspect opened fire on police when they attempted to intercept him while he was allegedly surveying the area for potential robbery targets. 'A shootout ensued and the suspect fatally shot on-site. 'Several bullet holes were found on a police vehicle. A revolver was recovered from the suspect.' DCP Fadil said the suspect had 44 offences on his criminal record. Checks on the luxury vehicle driven by the suspect revealed that it was using a fake registration plate and is believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country, he said. 'Investigations suggest that gang members sometimes pose as police officers and are also linked to a drug distribution syndicate. 'Efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining individuals involved,' he said.

Key witness in Guan Eng trial attacked by armed thieves
PETALING JAYA: A key prosecution witness in a corruption trial involving former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng was attacked and robbed by a group of masked and armed men, who had broken into his home in Jalan Bukit Gasing here. It is learnt that the victim sustained various injuries to his face and hands. Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar confirmed the incident, saying the police were alerted at about 7.20am yesterday. 'A group of masked men, armed with machetes, broke into the victim's house. They stole valuables which were kept in a safe,' he said, adding that the assailants escaped into a jungle area behind the house. The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery. 'We urge those with information to contact investigating officer Asst Supt Fandhi Fatullah Abu Bakar at 014-630 3090 or the nearest police station.' ACP Shahrulnizam said initial investigations revealed that the incident had no connection with the ongoing court case. He said the witness and three others were assaulted in the incident. 'The first victim (the witness) suffered wounds to his face and hands while two security guards were punched in the face. 'The fourth victim, a personal driver, was punched in the face and there were signs that his hands were tied up using cables.' Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin said the witness was threatened. 'He was told not to speak too much and to stay home,' the DPP said when contacted. Lim, 64, is facing an amended charge of using his position as then Penang chief minister to solicit RM3.3mil in bribes as an inducement to assist Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli in securing the undersea tunnel project worth RM6.34bil. Lim allegedly committed the offence at the Penang Chief Minister's Office, Level 28, Komtar, George Town, between January 2011 and August 2017. In the second amended charge, Lim is accused of soliciting a 10% profit from the company as gratification to secure the project. The offence was allegedly committed near The Gardens Hotel, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City here in March 2011. Lim, who is Bagan MP, faces two further charges of causing two plots of land worth RM208.8mil, belonging to the Penang government, to be disposed of to two companies linked to the project. The trial before judge Azura Alwi continues on Aug 19.
