Air Quality Alerts issued as smoke returns

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Wildfires continue to burn across Canada, with 213 active fires ongoing, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre Inc. Of those, only 75, as of June 3, are under control. The fires have burned around 2.0 million hectares or around 7,722 mi2. And smoke from these wildfires continues to impact the United States, including right here in Siouxland. We had a brief reprieve from the smoky skies and reduced air qualities as we began the week Monday. However, behind the passage of a cold front the smoke is returning as winds shift back to the north/northwest. Expect intermittent thick smoke across Siouxland. Milky skies and hazy sunshine are likely, along with degradations to air quality at times over the next 24-48 hours. Air Quality Alerts are in effect from now through midnight Wednesday for: Antelope, Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Dakota, Knox, Pierce, Stanton, Thurston, and Wayne counties in NE Nebraska. Additional Air Quality Alerts will be in effect through 6 AM Wednesday morning for all of NW Iowa. Generally expecting air quality indices to fall between the moderate to unhealthy range. Air qualities within this range have the most impact on those in more sensitive groups, including: People with heart disease/other cardiac issues People with lung issues (.) 9-year-old suffers life-threatening injuries in electric scooter crash in northwest Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 9-year-old was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a crash involving an electric scooter in the northwest Las Vegas valley. On Tuesday around 10:20 a.m., police responded to the area of Cliff Shadows Parkway and Hickam Avenue after a report of a crash involving an electric scooter. Evidence at the scene, witness statements and dash camera footage showed that an electric scooter, being ridden by two children, was traveling eastbound on Hickam Avenue at the same time a Kia Sportage was traveling southbound on Cliff Shadows Parkway. The crash occurred when the children failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of the Kia. The scooter crashed into the Kia, causing both children to be ejected from the scooter, police said. Police said a 9-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries and an 11-year-old girl sustained minor injuries. Both children were taken to a local hospital for their injuries. The driver of the Kia remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Isolated downpours for far south but sunny and pleasant across the rest of Utah

SALT LAKE CITY () — Happy Tuesday, Utah! Drier air in place Tuesday will limit any isolated downpours to far southern Utah, leading to mostly sunny to partly sunny skies for the rest of the state. Highs will be in the mid-70s along the Wasatch Front, with highs in the 90s for SW Utah. Another low pressure loads up across southern Utah on Wednesday, bringing more heavy rain potential along and south of I-70. Highs will drop back into the 80s for SW Utah and 70s for the Wasatch Front. The moisture associated with this area of low pressure may slowly shift north affecting more of central Utah on Thursday and potentially making it to the Wasatch Front by Friday. Otherwise, temps will remain near seasonal levels through late-week. A big ridge of high pressure will begin to build back across Utah later this week. This will usher in drier air and much warmer weather once again across the Beehive State just in time for the upcoming weekend. Stay tuned, we'll keep you 4Warned on-air and online!
