Karun Nair delivered a masterful display with the bat on Day 1 of the first four-day match during India A's tour of the England Lions at St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury. The seasoned campaigner appeared in complete control on a surface that offered good value for batting. Coming in at No. 3 after captain and opener Abhimanyu Easwaran fell cheaply, Karun put on a batting clinic against the red Dukes ball.advertisementKarun became the first Indian batter to hit a hundred on the much-awaited tour of England. The 33-year-old, who has returned to the Indian Test side after seven years, hit his 24th first-class hundred. It was also his second successive fifty in red-ball cricket after his match-winning hundred in the Ranji Trophy final for Vidarbha in February.Karun got to his hundred in 155 balls in the post-Tea session, clipping leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed for a double. Karun removed his helmet and celebrated his hundred, soaking in the applause from the Indian dug-out and the crowd. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan gave Karun a standing ovation.
Unfortunately, Sarfaraz Khan missed out on his hundred, getting out for 92 after the Tea break on Day 1 of the four-day match.advertisementHe reached his fifty in 85 balls in a stroke-filled innings. The Karnataka batter was unbeaten on 91 at Tea, having stitched together a 181-run partnership with Sarfaraz Khan, who was given a chance to bat at No. 4.England Lions relied on a four-pronged pace attack throughout the first session. They managed to keep the scoring rate in check after left-arm pacer Josh Hull dismissed Abhimanyu for 8, followed by Eddie Jack, a tall right-armer, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 24, caught behind in the 17th over. The new ball offered some movement, but Karun Nair negotiated it expertly, showing composure and resilience. He looked assured with his footwork, displaying clarity in both front-foot and back-foot play. Karun was quick to capitalise on full deliveries, driving with elegance, and when the bowlers dropped short, he rocked back confidently to play late, piercing the field with precision.Karun also handled the short ball with authority, dispatching several to the boundary with classy pull shots. By Tea, he had struck 14 boundaries, guiding India A into a position of strength. At the other end, Sarfaraz Khan — overlooked by selectors for the Test series in England — made a strong case for himself. Showing maturity, he adapted to the conditions and curbed his natural aggression early in the innings. He brought up his fifty in 87 balls before shifting gears.advertisementSarfaraz looked comfortable against spinners Rehan Ahmed and Dan Mousley, finding boundaries with ease. He scored his next 42 runs off just 31 balls as he raced towards a well-deserved hundred. Right after Tea, Sarfaraz was dismissed by left-arm pacer Hull. The Mumbai batter went hard at a delivery which was bowled down the leg-side from around the wicket. Rajat Patidar has 'no idea' about RCB player's availability day before the IPL 2025 Final, awaits update from doctors

With Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings both gunning for a first IPL trophy as they meet at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the teams and captains will want access to all the players that got them to this stage. However, there is an injury concern for the RCB unit, as they continue to wait for positive news regarding the health and readiness of powerful Australian finisher Tim David. David suffered a hamstring injury during RCB's game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, sustained while fielding in the first innings of that game, and missed their subsequent game against Lucknow Super Giants. However, captain Rajat Patidar didn't have too positive an update when asked about David's fitness in the pre-match press conference with the two team captains, explaining that the big Aussie's involvement was still up in the air. 'I have no idea about Tim David. Doctors will let us know this evening,' Patidar said in his press conference to reporters. This will be concerning news for RCB, who would have enjoyed the extra firepower down the order that David provides, having scored 187 runs this season at a strike-rate of 185, averaging 64. He already has a statement performance against PBKS in this tournament, registering his maiden IPL half-century in a rain-shortened match against them in a one-man effort. However, the positive news for Patidar and the RCB faithful is that they have been victorious on both the occasions they have had to play without David, first beating LSG as Jitesh Sharma filled his shoes in that finisher role with some destructive skill. They also beat PBKS in Qualifier 1 without needing to rely on the middle order and beyond at all, with their bowling doing the heavy lifting in setting up that victory for them. As well as David's injury, Jacob Bethell's departure for international duty means lower order pressure comes onto Jitesh Sharma, who shone in the spotlight when called upon, and the ultra-powerful Romario Shepherd. Not bad cover to have for Tim David, even if he is absent. PBKS, meanwhile, have already lost a destructive Australian middle order batter of their own to injury, Glenn Maxwell departing earlier this season, while Marco Jansen also left the team to join South Africa's WTC prep. However, PBKS have been a team that have relied on their Indian domestic core throughout this season, and that will remain the core of their team in the IPL 2025 final.

‘Magnus was distracted by curry scent': Instead of applause, D Gukesh's win video draws racist hate on TikTok

A video of when D Gukesh sealed a win against Magnus Carlsen is going viral on social media. It shows the moment Carlsen banged a table in frustration after losing to the 18-year-old Indian in Norway Chess 2025. However, some social media users, instead of just celebrating the Indian champion, have flooded the comments section with racist remarks. Many users targeted Gukesh's nationality with xenophobic and derogatory comments, sparking outrage online. An NRI pointed it out in an X post and wrote, 'Can I ask why isn't @NorwayChess moderating its TikTok account, despite repeated racist comments targeting Gukesh? These comments are visible, liked by thousands, and consistently appear at the top.' The individual further shared a screenshot of a remark under the video that reads, 'Magnus was distracted by the curry scent (sic).' People had a lot to say about this post. An individual remarked, 'West hates Indians, they always did.' Another added, 'They encourage racism against Indians.' A third expressed, 'No worries. The whole world hates India's rise. Who cares about trolls? Let them waste their time and mind.' A fourth wrote, 'They can't accept the fact an Indian talent got over the top. Nobody from the West is complaining about Magnus' attitude, saying it's all. It's pure jealousy.' The 18-year-old sealed a surprising win against the World No. 1 in their Round 6 face-off. Initially, Gukesh was in a losing position. However, after a blunder by Carlsen, the Indian clinched a win against the Norwegian. Gukesh's grandfather, Shankar Rajesh, defended Carlsen by saying, 'That is natural.' He continued, 'He will be relaxed, and he will be practising.' Talking about his grandson's win, he told ANI, 'One of the major achievements which he hadn't achieved before, he achieved now. Gukesh has now beaten Magnus Carlsen as well. There is no pressure on him now.'

Shreyas Iyer needs four more sixes in IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru to become...

Shreyas Iyer. New Delhi: On June 3, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final will be played at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Punjab qualified for the final by winning Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians, as Shreyas Iyer's outstanding knock of 87 runs in only 41 deliveries played a big role. The final gives Iyer a chance to reach a new record. Shreyas Iyer is now second among Indian players for the number of sixes in a single IPL season with his 39. If he hits four more sixes in the final match, it would trump Abhishek Sharma's record of 42 sixes made in 2024 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. If Shreyas Iyer leads the Punjab Kings to victory in IPL 2025, he will be the first captain to win the IPL with two different franchises. Shreyas Iyer described his training regimen leading up to his 87-run performance against the Mumbai Indians. Despite his strong showing, he expressed a desire for continued improvement. 'When I say that I am in the zone, it starts from before the match, from the warm-up and how you plan yourself and approach the game. Once I was completely locked in, I knew how I was going to rally my players, and they did a phenomenal job in restricting them to 203. From there, I had a certain plan on how I was going to play on that red-soil surface. We got a beautiful start from our openers, and then Josh came in at No. 3, so I thought I would get a little bit of time. Once my eyes were set, it was all about the flow and backing my instincts. Happy, but not content,' Iyer said after the match.
