Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A former Loose Women star has divulged the reasons behind her departure from the much-loved ITV programme, citing her husband's concerns as the catalyst for her exit. Lesley Garrett, a renowned opera singer who has performed for nobility such as King Charles and the late Queen in her illustrious 45-year career, is equally recognised for her television appearances on shows like Strictly Come Dancing and Loose Women. After imparting her opinions on the daytime chat show for four years, Lesley has opened up about her husband Peter Christian, a general practitioner's influence on her decision to step away from the panel. READ MORE - Fears for Westlife icon as he suddenly pulls out of 25-year celebrations READ MORE - Ray Winstone wanted to 'knock out' Hollywood icon for being 'rude' to his wife "[It's] the only time he's ever asked me to stop doing something," she disclosed to the Daily Mail. "He said, 'At the surgery I've got ten minutes with each patient. And eight minutes is taken up with what you've said the day before. I'm worried I'm going to misdiagnose somebody, so please could you stop?'", reports the Mirror. (Image: Stuart C. Wilson, Getty Images) (Image: PA) Previously, Lesley addressed concerns that her family had regarding her role on the show. She recounted in 2011 how her parents were struggling with the local attention, "My mum and dad said, 'Do you think you could just give it a rest for a bit because we can't go down the shops at the moment without somebody saying, 'What have you been up to?'". Despite these familial pleas, Lesley confessed she found the show immensely enjoyable, stating, "But I enjoy it so much on the show. It's the best fun you can ever have." Currently aged 70, Lesley is preparing for a summer concert, prompting speculation among admirers whether this performance might be their final opportunity to witness her live. Lesley has been contemplating retiring from her singing career for a more relaxed lifestyle with her partner in the south of France, which she revealed to the Sunday Express. When discussing retirement, Lesley suggested: "I do think about retiring, because I don't want to go on when I'm not as good as I was." Lesley continued: "I want to quit while I'm ahead. I don't want to carry on past my sell-by date. My voice is changing, as voices do. It's still beautiful in the middle, but I can't get as high as I used to." She further elaborated that every season, she wonders if it could be her last. She considers this season to be potentially her last, citing her age: "Every season I think could be my last. This one I seriously think could be my last year, because I am 70 and it seems like a very round number – I've been doing this for exactly 45 years." Upon her retirement, members of the Royal Family would likely miss Lesley's beautiful voice, following her numerous performances at Royal engagements. Regarding her work for the Royals, the South Yorkshire-born singer revealed: "I have sung for King Charles and met him several times. I sang for both the King and Queen recently." Lesley expressed admiration for their dedication to duty, saying, "I really enjoy it, I think they do a great job. Their duty to the country is something that is very important to them. The King is very knowledgeable about opera and classical music in general, and the Duchess of Gloucester is very interested too. I've sung for her several times."

People fear student favourite Gassy's in Cardiff is set to close but the truth is different
People fear student favourite Gassy's in Cardiff is set to close but the truth is different Eagle-eyed patrons spotted a sign at the much loved pub, suggesting that they were closing - but all was not as it seemed There was speculation that Gassy's would be closing its doors for good (Image: Rob Browne/Walesonline ) Speculation swirled this week after a sign spotted behind the bar at popular student haunt, Gassy's, led many to believe that the venue was shutting down for good. The message, which read: "Due to closing down, we have reduced draught stock," sparked concern from regulars who feared the end of an era for the well-loved pub in Salisbury Road, Cathays. Known for its themed nights, student deals and famously lively drag queen karaoke Thursdays, Gassy's has long been a staple of the student social scene. For over three decades, Gassy's, (formally known as Gassy Jacks) has been more than just a pub - it's been a part of the fabric of life at Cardiff University; a familiar setting on nights out, society socials and post-lecture pints. One disheartened student shared: "It's always been somewhere fun that you could wind down after a long day at the library, or to stop off on the way to Misfits! I'll miss their £3 Moretti on the student deal." Another added: "Life at Cardiff Uni wouldn't be the same without Gassy's!" Article continues below However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as rumours of a permanent closure have now been put to rest. While Gassy's will be closing on June 26, this is not permanent. A spokesperson from Stonegate Pub Partners, which owns the venue, confirmed that Gassy's would be returning under new management following a brief transition. "So, Gassy's will not be closing permanently," they stated. "The site will be transitioning to our Publican Partners division from 26th June and will re-open shortly afterwards under the management of a new publican. "We understand that Gassy's has been a popular fixture for Cardiff University students over the years, and we're confident it will continue to serve the local community under its new publican." Over the decades, Gassy's has cemented its place in Cardiff nightlife. The venue's rich history even includes a surprise visit from Welsh music legend, Tom Jones. In October, 1992, the Sex Bomb singer dropped in after midnight to watch his backing band for a late night "jamming" session. (Image: South Wales Echo ) This ended up in an impromptu, hour-long performance, where he delighted fans with a set of his greatest hits. Pub promoter Alan Jones said at the time: "It was a brilliant night. Tom sang for almost an hour, belting out all his big hits. "Tom sang 12 songs and he obviously didn't want to leave the stage. He told me afterwards that he was thrilled at the fantastic reaction he received from such a young crowd." Article continues below
