3,000 cops to be deployed for TVK's second conference near Koodakovil
The police said around 3,000 police personnel would be deployed under the supervision of the IGP of the South Zone, Prem Anand Sinha, for security arrangements on the day.
Separate traffic diversion routes have been created for people coming from the northern, central, western and southern parts of the state. In order to avoid any accidental deaths on the roads after the conference, police will be more cautious to regulate traffic, a police officer said.
A party district functionary further said that the conference is scheduled to be held between 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm and will be held in a 500-acre area, which includes parking space, near Koodakovil. At least 1.25 lakh party functionaries and thousands of others are expected to take part.
Starting from medical assistance and water facilities, other basic amenities have been arranged. 'This is likely to be the final conference before next year's Assembly election, so, like others, I am also eager for the address of party chief Vijay,' the functionary said.
Talking to TNIE on Sunday, the party's propaganda and policy general secretary, former IRS officer Arunraj said that while the first state conference answered questions about the measures the actor-turned-politician Vijay wanted to do for the state and his political ideology, the second state conference, in contrast, will address why the party needs to come to power in 2026, he said, noting that the party is growing.
Although the initial date for the second conference was planned for August 25, the police requested for a change, citing Vinayagar Chaturthi, and the event was later rescheduled to August 21.

Bill for crowd control that prescribes jail term and hefty fine for violators tabled
Following the stampede during the RCB's victory celebrations that claimed 11 lives in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government on Wednesday brought out Karnataka Crowd Control (Managing Crowd at Events and Place of Gathering) Bill that prescribes steps to effectively control the crowd and manage mass gatherings at programmes to prevent unlawful gatherings, and also to make provisions for punishment to offenders. The Bill, which was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday by Home Minister G. Parameshwara, prescribes imprisonment of three to seven years and a penalty of up to ₹1 crore or both for those organising events without permission from relevant authorities. Whoever disturbs or attempts to disturb the orderly crowd in any event by way of creating rumours, false statements, acts or causing any creach of peace including a threat of collective violence, destruction of property or other unlawful acts shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with a fine of ₹50,000 or both, according to the provisions of the Bill. Similarly, whoever causes or becomes a reason for a crowd disaster will be liable for imprisonment of three to seven years with respect to injuries and to a sentence of 10 years to life in case of fatalities, states the bill. Offences under the proposed legislation are cognisable, non-bailable and triable by first class judicial magistrate . If there is damage to any property, both private and public, the organisers are liable to compensate for the loss as calculated by the trial court. Whoever wants to organise any event will have to obtain permission from the officer in charge of the police station when the crowd is less than 7,000; jurisdictional Dy. SP when the crowd is more than 7,000 but less than 50,000, and from the jurisdictional SP or the Commissioner of Police when the crowd is more than 50,000, according to the provisions of the Bill. Meanwhile, Karnataka Appointment of Recovery Commissioner for Seizure and Attachment of Property of Illegal Mining and Proceeds of Crime Bill; Karnataka Traditional Migratory Shepherds (Welfare Measures and Protection Against Atrocities) Bill; The Karnataka Lifts, Escalators and Passenger Conveyors (Amendment) Bill; and The Karnataka Land Revenue (Second Amendment) Bill too were tabled in the Assembly.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam all set for second State conference in Madurai
The stage is set for the second State conference of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) at Parapathi on the Madurai-Thoothukudi Highway on Thursday. Huge cut-outs of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai and AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran, along with that of TVK leader Vijay, who is due to address the conference, have been placed on the facade of the stage at the venue, decked up with red and yellow party flags. Accompanying the cut-outs of the former Chief Ministers are the words, 'Varalaru Thirumbukirathu' (History Repeats), and 1967 and 1977 — the years when the DMK and the AIADMK, respectively, had come to power in the State. The mention of the year 2026 along with 1967 and 1977 is meant to underline the aspiration of the fledgling political party to capture power in Tamil Nadu at the next Assembly election. Though Mr. Vijay has declared the DMK as a political enemy of the TVK, the cut-outs of Annadurai and MGR were surprisingly much larger than the smaller photographs of the party's ideological mentors, Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, K. Kamaraj, B.R. Ambedkar, Rani Velu Nachiyar, and Anjalai Ammal. With only about eight months to go for the Assembly election, the second State conference of the TVK has gained much significance. The meeting is expected to shed light on the line the party would toe while facing its first electoral battle against the ruling DMK-led multi-party front, the AIADMK-BJP alliance, and the Seeman-led Naam Tamilar Katchi. Mr. Vijay has already said the TVK would keep both the DMK and the BJP, its ideological enemy, at an equal distance. The party high-command would also use the opportunity to keep the spirits of the cadre high, as no political party has come forward to ally with the TVK even after the actor had expressed willingness to form an alliance with like-minded parties and share power with them if he forms the next government. The party has also made it clear that it would not compromise on its stand that Mr. Vijay would be the Chief Ministerial candidate. This would be the first major public appearance for Mr. Vijay after the first party conference in Vikravandi in October 2024. Meanwhile, the Madurai district police have planned to deploy around 2,700 personnel drawn from the southern districts to provide security for the conference, which is expected to witness the participation of around two lakh cadre.
