The film will be directed by
Jon M. Chu
, best known for directing Crazy Rich Asians and the upcoming Wicked musical adaptation. The screenplay is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writing duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine.
Actress
Sydney Sweeney
is set to appear in a new movie based on the popular video game 'Split Fiction', according to an exclusive report from Variety.
Sweeney, who has gained fame through roles in
Euphoria
and Anyone But You, will not only star in the project but also serve as an executive producer. At this stage, it's still unclear whether she will take on the role of Mio or Zoe, the two lead characters from the game.
The movie is being developed by
Story Kitchen
, a company led by producers Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson. They're partnering with Chu's own company, Electric Somewhere. The project is currently being pitched to major studios, as several production houses are already showing strong interest.
'Split Fiction', developed by
Hazelight Studios
and published by Electronic Arts, is a video game that mixes fantasy and science fiction. It tells the story of two authors, Zoe and Mio, who find themselves trapped inside the fantasy worlds they created in their books. The game is known for its unique split-screen format, which allows two players to control each character as they face combat, puzzles, and platform-style challenges using different abilities.
The game was released on March 6 and quickly became a hit among gamers and critics. Hazelight Studios announced that over two million copies were sold within the first week of release, and the number continues to grow. The story and visuals of the game impressed many, leading to a quick move by Hollywood to adapt it for the big screen.
Story Kitchen has been making a name for itself in turning video games into movies and series. The company previously worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and a Tomb Raider animated series for Netflix. They are also developing films based on It Takes Two (another game made by Hazelight), Streets of Rage, and ToeJam & Earl.
The idea of a Split Fiction movie first gained attention in March during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Variety was the first to report on the film being in early talks and attracting interest from several major studios.

Jennifer Lopez pays tribute to classic Hollywood musicals in Kiss Of A Spider Woman. Watch trailer
Jennifer Lopez is coming back to the silver screen with the movie Kiss of the Spider Woman, which is a musical, something that brings together two of the things she is most passionate about: singing and acting. Director Bill Condon and the producers seem to be cashing in on the success of Wicked last year, which earned over Rs 400 crore worldwide and have already released the trailer for the sequel. The trailer opens up by focusing on Ingrid Luna's (Jennifer) lavish Hollywood lifestyle and two of her admirers talking about her musical Kiss Of A Spider Woman. The film is based on the stage musical of the same name by Terrence McNally, John Kander and Fred Ebb. At the centre of it are two characters stuck in an Argentinian prison, who slowly form an intimate bond. The two men, Valentin and Luis, are played by Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, respectively. ALSO READ: Priyanka Chopra tries to keep Idris Elba, John Cena alive in final trailer for Heads of State. Watch Luis is in love with stories and movies, while Valentin is indifferent to the art form. Ingrid is seen performing different musical numbers as the two men fantasise about being a part of her life, or more precisely a part of the musical. Valentin can later be seen settling well into his revolutionary ideals, as he evolves into a beacon of anti-establishment now armed with movies and storytelling. The film keeps going back and forth between the glamour of the musical and the true lives of the men, which are grim beyond repair. Luis gains freedom like in the original story and joins the revolution started by Valentin and is seen getting in trouble, which will likely be the end for him just like in the novel. Helmed by Academy Award winner Bill Cordon, the cast of the film also includes Josefina Scaglione and Tony Dovolani.

F1 first reactions: Brad Pitt's film hailed as high-octane crowd-pleaser; comparisons drawn to Top Gun Maverick
Brad Pitt's F1 got a mixed response at Comic-Con after dropping a high-octane 10-minute clip. But its first official press screening seems to have flipped the narrative; critics are calling it a full-throttle summer blockbuster with brilliant visuals and addictive energy. Except for a few concerns about whether the film can pull in non-racing fans, it is racking up rave reviews. Critics are praising Joseph Kosinski's film for its technical brilliance. Variety's Clayton Davis gave a shoutout to cinematographer Claudio Miranda and urged the Oscars to 'not do dirty with him again.' Miranda had also worked with Kosinski on Top Gun: Maverick and even earned a BAFTA nomination for it. Some critics are drawing comparisons between the visuals of F1 and Maverick. 'It's Pearce, down the insideeeee' — WOW! @F1Movie is an action-packed, thrilling look at the world of F1 racing, with lots of grit. The sound, score, and cinematography are flawless. Damson Idris and Brad Pitt are great! Absolutely Obsessedddddd,' wrote Jazz Tangcay. Tim Chan wrote, 'Just got out of #F1TheMovie screening: film was more emotional than I had anticipated, Brad Pitt is hotter than ever, soundtrack (with Tate! Roddy! Rosé!) is perfect accompaniment to the race scenes.' Maude Garrett, a journalist with Nerdist and Breakroom, called the movie 'so freaking good' and even wondered if she might've enjoyed it even more had she actually been an F1 fan. Also read: F1 trailer: Brad Pitt plays 'oldtimer' who needs to deal with both his past and a rookie to save his friend's struggling APXGP team In the film, Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a once-celebrated Formula 1 driver who stepped away from racing after a tragic accident. Years later, he's approached to mentor a young racer, played by Damson Idris, who's gearing up for the fictional Apex Grand Prix. The cast also includes Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon. Earlier, in his GQ interview, Pitt opened up about the pressure Formula 1 drivers face, comparing it to the kind of scrutiny movie stars deal with. 'Those guys are so scrutinised, and that sport is so revered, and there are so many of us that think we could do it too, just because we drive a car fast down the freeway or something. They get so much s**t. It is shocking to me. They've got to have thicker skin than even us.' The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and F1 legend Lewis Hamilton, who joined the project as a producer and has been promoting the film alongside Pitt. During a press conference earlier this year, Bruckheimer opened up about how the idea crossed his mind. Kosinski said he became a fan of the sport after watching Netflix's Drive to Survive during the pandemic. 'I loved how the first season of the show focused on the last-place teams, the underdogs, rather than Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, the teams you usually see at the front of the pack,' he said. 'I thought there was an interesting story to be told about an underdog team,' he added. To shoot F1, the team actually followed the real F1 circuit for a year and even received permission to film during actual race weekends, within a tiny window of just 10–15 minutes. They set up over 20 cameras and had to capture everything in a rush before the track opened again. Kosinski added that the crowd is also real, and that they used advanced IMAX cameras, some of which were previously used in Tom Cruise's films. Wicked For Good Trailer: Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo join hands against a suppressive queen and her prince. Watch
There is magic in the air yet again as Universal Pictures has dropped the trailer for Wicked For Good, the sequel to last year's breakout hit Wicked, which made over Rs 400 crore worldwide and became the most successful musical of all time. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are coming back to face-off against Madame Morrible, played by Michelle Yeoh and her favourite lackey prince Fiyero, portrayed by Jonathan Bailey. The makers will be hoping for a repeat of last year's performance, and the film will be trying not to crumble under the pressure of its predecessor. The trailer opens with Erivo and Grande reuniting, as the former tells her of a battle that is coming their way. She says, 'There's no going back. This is between us, the wizard and I.' We see Galinda (Grande) don the crown as Fiyero and his troops move forward in their quest to capture the witch Elphaba (Erivo). The movie seems to go back to its root themes of ostracisation and how people often fear what they don't understand, and then they wish to destroy it. Apart from evading Fiyero and Morrible, Alphaba has a quest of her own, to bring down the Wizard of Oz (Goldbulm), in whom 'she believed in the most.' Galinda is trying to manage her feelings for Fiyero, while trying to protect Alphaba and change her ways. Change seems to be the central point of the narrative. It seems that the prince will finally realise his true desires and act upon them, which is clear from a scene in the trailer. All lead characters will be going through some kind of change, in order to truly achieve whatever they long for, be it acceptance, friendship, peace or love. Directed by John M. Chu, the film also features Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Marrisa Bode, Ethan Slater and Jeff Goldblum.
