The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways ' ( MoRTH ) newly launched FASTag annual pass has seen an overwhelming response, with nearly 1.4 lakh users purchasing and activating it on the very first day, the National Highways Authority of India ( NHAI ) said on Friday, Economic Times reported. Rolled out on Independence Day across 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and expressways, the ₹3,000 annual pass allows non-commercial vehicle owners to travel toll-free for a year or 200 crossings, whichever comes earlier. To support the rollout, NHAI has deployed nodal officers at toll plazas and strengthened its 1033 National Highway helpline . Officials said the scheme will further improve travel efficiency, ease of living, and user experience on highways. FASTag penetration currently stands at 98 per cent, with more than 80 million users nationwide, making electronic toll collection the backbone of India's highway network.
