'They landed in hell after abandoning Hindutva': Shinde mocks Uddhav, Shiv Sena (UBT)
THANE: In a swipe at Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena ahead of the launch of a book authored by party MP Sanjay Raut, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has accused the rival faction of abandoning the Hindutva ideology of the late Bal Thackeray for power.
Raut's book "Narkatla Swarg" (Heaven in Hell) will be unveiled in Mumbai on Saturday evening.
"Had they remained loyal to the ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray, they wouldn't have fallen into hell and reduced to a position today where they are now searching for heaven," Shinde told reporters in Thane on Friday night.
He said Balasaheb Thackeray was firmly rooted in the Hindutva ideology and had immense respect for leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
"Balasaheb had recognised their commitment and work for Gujarat and the nation. His foresight identified them as the rightful torch-bearers of Hindutva," he added.
Without naming Uddhav Thackeray, he said the individuals who have now aligned with the Congress and abandoned the ideals of Balasaheb will never understand the reasons behind his decisions.
"They have strayed far from his legacy," he said.
Shinde's rebellion in 2022 split the undivided Shiv Sena, forcing Thackeray to resign as the chief minister.

Earlier on Friday, high drama unfolded at the protest site, when a member of Kadu's Prahar Janshakti Party consumed poison, and was rushed to the hospital by the medical team present on site. The activist, identified as Ajay Bhagwatrao Chaudhary, has been admitted to a private hospital at Warud. Chaudhary, like many other Prahar activists, had turned restless on Friday citing 'government's apathy' towards Kadu's Annatyag Andolan, now into its sixth day, at Gurukunj Mozari (about 30km from Amravati city). Kadu's agitation raises issues related to farmers, divyangs, widows, fishermen etc. Before Bawankule's visit too the govt has tried to persuade Kadu to withdraw the agitation. The Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Friday night. All passengers – except one – on board the Air India flight bound for London Gatwick Airport that crashed shortly after take-off from Gujarat's Ahmedabad airport on 12 June afternoon died. There were 242 passengers and crew on board the plane, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. One passenger, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, miraculously survived the crash. The Committee will not be a substitute for other enquiries being conducted by relevant organisations, but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in the future. 'The committee will have access to all records, including, among others, flight data, cockpit voice recorders, aircraft maintenance records, ATC Log and witness testimonies,' the Ministry said in the order.
