The Masked Singer star claims show left her battling depression and having a meltdown in trailer

Daily Mail09-05-2025

A Bravo celebrity says it wasn't the network's drama-filled Vanderpump Rules that triggered her recent mental health crisis—it was a completely different reality series.
Scheana Shay opened up on a new episode of her Scheananigans podcast about falling into a months-long depression following her brief appearance on Season 13 of The Masked Singer.
'I have really just been feeling depressed the last six months,' Shay, 40, admitted. 'It was something that I kept trying to just mask and say, "No, I'm fine. It'll go away." But it all started around The Masked Singer.'
Shay initially turned down the offer to compete on the show, saying she feared public humiliation.
'I got asked to do the show. I immediately was like, 'Hard pass, absolutely not,"' she recalled. 'I didn't care how much money they're paying me. I was not going to go on another show on national television just to get made fun of.'
Despite her reservations, Shay ultimately joined the competition as The Bat, performing Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter—only to be eliminated after the first episode.
'I totally had a meltdown in my trailer,' she said.
'I'm like, "This is why I didn't want to do this show. I'm not good enough. I get sent home first. Now everyone's going to make fun of me.' I just wanted to put myself out there.'
She revealed that rather than confronting her feelings, she tried to manage her depression by adjusting her medication without proper guidance.
'I just was like, 'Maybe I up my meds a little bit.' But then I started grinding my teeth a lot at night,' Shay explained.
'So I'm like, 'No, I'll just go back to like 25 mg.' As if that's enough Zoloft for anyone. It's not. I've learned that and I'm now at 75 mg and considering 100 mg.'
Shay said she eventually sought professional help: 'In that time, I was able to talk to my psychiatrist and able to talk to my therapist. Then it's the holidays. We're getting into Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and then wildfires across Los Angeles.'
Describing a cascade of emotional challenges, Shay added, 'It was just a few really heavy months emotionally. Then we're in March and the show's airing. Now I really need to focus on what's been brewing and what's going on. Because I felt like getting sent home first was part of it—but it couldn't be all of it.
The reality star came to realize that broader changes in her life, including her departure from Vanderpump Rules, were also weighing heavily on her mental state.
'As excited as I am for this new chapter of my life—I got to film The Valley and be with all of my friends this past summer—it filled the void of not filming a season 12,' Shay explained.
Shay was a staple on Vanderpump Rules from the very beginning, appearing on the Bravo hit since its debut in 2013.
Over 10 seasons, she became known for her high-profile relationships, emotional storylines, and unwavering loyalty to her inner circle.
But after more than a decade on the show, her time came to an end.
Bravo recently confirmed that Vanderpump Rules will be rebooted with a new cast for Season 12, leaving Shay—and other longtime stars like Ariana Madix, Tom Sandoval, and Katie Maloney—off the roster.
Though bittersweet, Shay has said she's looking forward to her next chapter.
'But then the show getting rebooted… that's a huge chapter of my life that now is just done. As happy as I was for honestly that chapter to be done, I'm like, "Wow, that's been a huge part of my identity that now is just done.' A combination of these things just led to me kind of going into a depression.'
Ultimately, Shay said she felt compelled to speak out to help others who might be struggling behind the scenes.
'Everything is great but mentally it hasn't been,' she said. 'I just wanted to open up about that because I feel like you could have everything in the world and still not always feel completely happy. I just wanted to normalize it.'
Shay is married to Brock Davies.
The couple tied the knot in August 2021 and held a wedding celebration in August 2022.
They share one daughter, Summer Moon Honey, who was born in April 2021.

Chappell Roan's 'actually normal' bikini body revealed: see what the star looks like stripped down

Chappell Roan took to Instagram on Sunday night to share scantily clad photos with her 7.1 million followers. The 27-year-old pop star — who was recently mistaken for Anna Delvey — posed in a black bikini, showing off her stunning figure. One snapshot showed The Giver hitmaker giving fans an eyeful as she posed with her plump bottom on display in high-cut tie-string bikini bottoms. She captioned the carousel post, 'I am actually normal.' But Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, looked anything but ordinary as she showed off her striking beauty. Chappell looked typically gorgeous with her flaming-red curly locks falling around her. The images have so far collected 1.3 million likes from the singer's devoted online audience. It comes after earlier this year the entertainer ignited a generational divide when she said in an interview: 'I don't know a single person who is happy and has children at this age.' Recognized for her drag aesthetic and punchy feminist lyrics, Chappell identifies as a lesbian. While appearing on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, she was asked by the host if she would ever have children. She answered unequivocally: 'All of my friends who have kids are in hell. I don't know anyone who's happy and has children at this age.' The star reiterated, 'I have not met anyone who is happy, anyone who has light in their eyes, anyone who has slept [who has a child under five].' The remarks prompted a fiery debate online. Some moms insisted it 'was not an accurate or healthy message to peddle, particularly when the birth rate is down.' One person wrote: 'Chappell Roan going on Call Her Daddy saying none of her friends with kids are happy, is a prime example of why you cannot just vent to anyone.' Someone else wished, 'May the friendship of narcissistic childless women with no sense of loyalty ever find me.' Meanwhile, others related to Chappell's statements, with one person weighing in: 'The people who have made me most scared to become a mother are mothers. 'What Chappell said is all I see because lots of mothers I see are like, "This is miserable" and mothers can also be the most competitive, nasty and judgmental people.'

Angels set Fenway Park record, hang on vs. Red Sox

June 3 - The Los Angeles Angels became the first visiting team to hit three home runs in the first inning of a game at Fenway Park and held on for a 7-6 win over the Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Monday night. Jo Adell had a two-homer game, while Mike Trout highlighted a 3-for-4 night with a three-run shot, the Angels' second of three in the opening frame against Boston starter Richard Fitts (0-3). Leadoff hitter Zach Neto opened the six-run inning with a homer. Trout's 1,675 career hits are second in Angels history. Garret Anderson is first with 2,368. Ryan Zeferjahn (3-1) tossed a perfect seventh, while former Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save in as many chances. From the top of Boston's lineup, Jarren Duran went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. The Angels scored five of their six first-inning runs before Fitts recorded his first out on his 33rd pitch, taking a 1-0 lead on Neto's drive that sailed over the Green Monster in left field and out of the ballpark. After Nolan Schanuel walked and reached third on Taylor Ward's single to right, Jorge Soler drove in a run while reaching on Red Sox third baseman Abraham Toro's fielding error. Trout's three-run homer to deep center -- 454 feet away -- made it a 5-0 Los Angeles lead. The next batter, Logan O'Hoppe, lined the first out against Fitts to first base, but Adell added to the visitors' lead with a solo shot to left-center. After Red Sox reliever Hunter Dobbins worked through the second and third innings by facing the minimum with the help of a double play ball, the hosts got on the board on back-to-back doubles by Duran and Rafael Devers with one out in the third. Devers lined his two-bagger past the dive of Ward in the left-center gap. Los Angeles starter Tyler Anderson started the fifth with his fifth and final strikeout, but did not complete the frame after the next four Red Sox reached base. He finished 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks. Rob Refsnyder's wall-ball single and a Carlos Narvaez line double to left plated runs, then with Hunter Strickland in for relief, Romy Gonzalez knocked a two-run double inside the first-base line to bring Boston within one. Adell wasted no time getting the run back for the Angels, crushing the first pitch of the sixth inning out to left-center. --Field Level Media

King Of The Hill and Parks And Recreation actor Jonathan Joss shot dead in Texas

An actor who appeared in animated series King Of The Hill and hit show Parks And Recreation has been shot dead near his home. Jonathan Joss, 59, was found injured by police in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday evening. Officers tried to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The actor's husband claimed the gunman shouted "violent homophobic slurs" before opening fire, and that Joss had pushed him out the way to save his life. "He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other," alleged Tristan Kern de Gonzales on Facebook. He said the couple had previously faced harassment by neighbours, much of it "openly homophobic". Joss's husband said they were checking the mail at his home - which earlier this year burned down in a fire that killed their three dogs - when they noticed the skull of one of the animals in front of the property. He said they began began "yelling and crying" and claimed they were approached by a man who threatened them with a gun. "We were standing side by side," said Mr Kern de Gonzales. "When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life." However, San Antonio police said it had so far found no evidence indicating the shooting was a hate crime. "Should any new evidence come to light, we will charge the suspect accordingly," said a statement. A 56-year-old man, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has already been charged with murder. Joss is best known for voicing Native American character John Redcorn in cult show King Of The Hill, which ran for 13 series and more than 250 episodes from 1997 to 2009. He also had a recurring role in NBC's Parks And Recreation as tribal elder and casino owner Chief Ken Hotate. A King Of The Hill reboot is due to start in August and Joss had been in Austin, Texas, for events promoting the comeback the day before he was killed. He posted a video on Instagram saying he was signing autographs at a comic book store, adding that he had already worked on four episodes of the revival. "The fans get to revisit King Of the Hill again, which I think is an amazing thing because it's a great show," he said in the video. The suspect is being held in a detention centre in San Antonio, but the lawyer representing him could not be traced as they were not listed in court records.
