Its managing director and chief executive officer, Narushi Yazaki, said the launch strengthens Honda's electric vehicle lineup and offers Malaysians more mobility options in line with the company's 2025 business strategy.
'We plan to introduce two more EV models over the next three years. However, we will closely monitor customer demand and competitor pricing, as the market is evolving rapidly.

Ringgit up against major currencies, holds steady against greenback on strong trade data
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit appreciated against major currencies and held firm versus the US dollar at the close on Tuesday as Malaysia posted a stronger trade performance, returning to positive growth in July. According to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), the country's trade performance rebounded by 3.8 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM265.92 billion in July, the highest monthly trade value ever. At 6 pm, the local note made a marginal retreat to 4.2215/2255 against the greenback from yesterday's close of 4.2200/2240. MITI said exports in July jumped 6.8 per cent to RM140.45 billion, the highest monthly value since September 2022, while imports edged up by 0.6 per cent to RM125.47 billion. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the latest export print suggests Malaysia's external sector is still "fairly decent' despite having to contend with US tariffs. "Hence, the case for a strong ringgit going forward remains intact,' he told Bernama. Meanwhile, he said market players will monitor the US Federal Reserve (Fed) meeting at the Jackson Hole Symposium later this week, with chair Jerome Powell's speech this Friday in focus. "Traders and investors appear to lean towards a possible 25 basis points cut in September as signs of a weaker US labour market have become increasingly apparent. Hence, a dovish tilt by the Fed is something that the market wants to hear. Therefore, any deviation from this view could have an impact on the currency market trajectory,' he added. At the close, the ringgit settled mostly higher against a basket of major currencies. It strengthened versus the Japanese yen to 2.8572/8601 from Monday's close of 2.8632/866, gained against the British pound to 5.7066/7120 from 5.7139/7193, but dropped vis-à-vis the euro to 4.9307/9354 from 4.9290/9336. The ringgit traded higher against other ASEAN currencies. It gained versus the Singapore dollar to 3.2901/2935 from 3.2902/2936 at Monday's close and strengthened against the Thai baht to 12.9848/13.0027 from 12.9942/13.0121. The ringgit also gained vis-à-vis the Philippine peso to 7.39/7.40 from 7.40/7.42 previously and edged up against the Indonesian rupiah to 259.8/260.2 from 260.4/260.9. - Bernama

Pahang to develop RM75bil hybrid shipyard complex in Pekan
KUALA LUMPUR: The Pahang State Government, through the Pahang State Secretary Incorporated (PSK) in collaboration with Teroka Majubina Holdings Bhd, today signed a lease agreement for the development of the Tanjung Agas Hybrid Shipyard Complex in Pekan, Pahang, with a total investment value of RM75 billion. Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Sri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said this high-impact project covers an area of 408.92 hectares. "The project will commence eight months from now, and the complex will be developed in phases, comprising three main components — firstly, Green Vessel Recycling (GVR), serving as a green technology ship recycling centre. "The second component is the shipbuilding facility, providing ship construction and maintenance services, while the third component is the tank farm oil platform, offering oil and gas storage facilities," he said to reporters after the signing ceremony held here today. Wan Rosdy elaborated that this mega development is expected to create up to 25,000 job opportunities for Malaysians, especially the people of Pahang, thereby delivering significant benefits to the state and national economies. "With the establishment of the hybrid shipyard complex, Pahang will emerge as a regional maritime hub, a green technology ship recycling centre, and a competitive oil and gas hub in the region. "Furthermore, this project will serve as a key catalyst for the state's development agenda, aligning with the Pahang First aspiration and the implementation of the Pahang State Economic Master Plan 2025-2030 (PET30)," he said. He explained that through these two initiatives, Pahang aims to become a resilient, high-income, inclusive state that directly benefits its people. "I sincerely hope the construction of this project will proceed smoothly and on schedule, making the Tanjung Agas Hybrid Shipyard Complex a new landmark of progress for Pahang," he added. The memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing ceremony for the lease was also witnessed by the Tengku Arif Bendahara of Pahang, Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah.

KBS, MOHE To Discuss Making e-Sports Long-term Tertiary Course
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) will hold discussions with the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) to make e-sports a long term course at universities, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said. Efforts to develop talent in e-sports have already begun through short-term courses by the National Sports Association with the cooperation of the National Youth and Sports Department. 'After Selangor Red Giants (SRG) won and returned with great prize money (in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang competitions), many have begun viewing e-sports as a career. '… but, our concern as parents are there as gadget addiction is a serious problem in Malaysia and we need to find a balance in this matter,' she said in a reply to an interjection by Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN-Alor Setar) while winding up the debate on the motion on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for her ministry at the Dewan Rakyat today. She said a recent study by a Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) lecturer revealed a psychological gap among youth, especially mental readiness that required serious attention. The study proved it was vital to ensure youth participation in e-sports would not affect their focus on academics and their social well-being. Hannah also answered a question about her ministry's efforts to connect its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes with industry needs and developments by saying that her ministry was taking steps in that direction but challenges remain, including ensuring teachers had the expertise suited to the respective industries.
