Virgin River fans predict Mel and Jack's future as season 7 airs on Netflix

Fans of the hit Netflix series Virgin River have taken to Reddit to speculate what's in store for Mel and Jack in season seven As Virgin River gets ready for its highly anticipated seventh season - set to premiere on Netflix early next year - fans are already speculating about what lies ahead for beloved couple Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan. ‌ The hit Netflix drama follows nurse practitioner Mel, played by Alexandra Breckenridge, who moves to the quiet Northern California town of Virgin River after experiencing a tragic personal loss. There, she unexpectedly falls in love with Jack (Martin Henderson), a former Marine and the town's bar owner. ‌ Season six wrapped up with a major milestone for the couple as they finally tied the knot. The finale brought heartfelt celebrations but also delivered a few dramatic twists - most notably involving Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), whose sudden disappearance left fans confused. ‌ Meanwhile, Mel was blindsided by a surprising request from Marley, who asked her to take care of her baby. The season finale has sparked a flurry of fan theories online, especially on Reddit, where viewers are busy piecing together what Mel and Jack's future might look like. Some believe parenthood is next on the cards for the newlyweds, particularly in light of Charmaine's vanishing and Marley's baby. ‌ One fan kicked off a discussion with their bold prediction: "Jack and Mel: Now that they are married, they're going to end up adopting the surrogate mother's baby, Charmaine's twins, and probably will be godparents to the baby Lizzie and Denny have." "They'll finally move into their new house with their three new kids," they added. ‌ But not everyone agreed with that vision. Another viewer offered a slightly different take: "Mel & Jack will just adopt the twins, but help find a home for the other baby." Others raised concerns about the tone of the show shifting too dark, particularly regarding Charmaine's fate. "I hope Calvin didn't kill Charmaine though; even though we all can't stand her, that would be pretty dark," one fan wrote. ‌ They continued: "I don't think they'll go that route. I also don't want Mel and Jack to adopt the twins, especially because they were the boys Jack was tricked into thinking were his. I think Mel and Jack will just adopt Marley's daughter." Another fan echoed this statement, offering their own theory: "I don't think Charmaine was killed. It is more likely that she murdered Calvin or maybe Jack saw something completely not connected to the Calvin situation, which would give them material for a new plot." Still, some fans believe that Mel and Jack's story needs more conflict to stay interesting, stating: "My thought was that Mel and Jack will need more drama to keep them front and centre, so Charmaine would be dead (or seriously injured), they track down Calvin with the boys and adopt the other baby, and when they get the boys back, either they adopt them too (because Charmaine passes) or they get them back to her."

Helen Flanagan opens up on mum guilt as she admits to 'not being a team' with Scott Sinclair

The former Coronation Street star shared a candid post about her relationship with each of her three kids who she shares with former Celtic star Scott Sinclair. Helen Flanagan has opened up about her tough 'mum guilt' as she candidly discussed 'not being a team' with her ex Scott Sinclair, who she co-parents her three kids with. The former Corrie star shares children Matilda, nine, Delilah, six and Charlie, four, with the former Celtic star, who she was previously engaged to but split from in July 2022. ‌ Helen has always been very open and honest about the struggles she has faced with being a single parent. In an emotional new Instagram post, the 34-year-old reflected on some of her favourite memories with her kids from this year so far as she posted a series of sweet videos and snaps with her little ones. ‌ She captioned the heartfelt post: "Looked back at some of my favourite times with the kids this year. Found motherhood hard recently, I've felt overwhelmed and stressed the majority of the time and I want to get back to when I'm present and I'm really in it and I'm really enjoying it. ‌ "I always wanted to be a mum. I get mum guilt with Matilda as I feel like I'm always preoccupied with her brother, I can't give her the energy that I want to give her and I feel like she always sees me at my worst. "I also feel like she needs calm which I can never be. Delilah, I feel like I'm getting it right with her and I feel like our bond is tight, so that's something not to beat myself up about. Charlie, I could pull my hair out sometimes, I feel like I've got the male version of me. ‌ "Co parenting is hard and not being a team together and not being able to talk about your anxieties and worries for the kids. I suppose you can only do your best and be kind to yourself but I wanted these on my grid for me as they make my soul happy." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! After candidly opening up about how she has individual mothering struggles with each child, fans rushed to the comments to offer their support and reassurance. ‌ One wrote: "You've got three gorgeous, happy kids there so you're definitely doing something right! Don't be so hard on yourself, being a parent is tough but you've got this. One step at a time." A second commented: "Juggling three kids is a super power I'm sure. U got this strong momma." A third replied, referring to Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, which Helen suffers from. PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome characterised by intense emotional and physical symptoms that significantly disrupt daily life. The fan said: "You're a fab mummy to your little beauties and your kids always look so happy. I have PMDD too and it's awful. Can really make you feel so anxious but honestly, you're doing great." ‌ Another mother, who found Helen's post relatable, wrote: "So relatable to read this has made me feel so much better as it's exactly how I feel on my own with my babies , like my eldest doesn't always get the best of me , constantly trying to spilt yourself, your time , your energy, leaving nothing for yourself and still feeling guilty." Helen and Scott were together for 13 years before they split in the summer of 2022. ‌ The actress, who has been very open about her mental health in the past, was diagnosed with psychosis last year. Helen suffered an episode on New Year's 2024 during a trip to Bali with the kids after she took a bad reaction to her ADHD medication. Reflecting on that time in her life earlier this year, Helen devastatingly shared how she thought her kids would have been better off without her. Helen has had another rough couple of months after splitting with her ex-boyfriend Robbie Talbot in May. The pair dated for around a year before they called it quits. Meanwhile, Scott has since moved on with his new partner Lauren Davies, who he has been dating since 2024.

'World's biggest' shopping centre that now sits mostly abandoned

The huge shopping centre was built with a cinema, fake canals complete with gondolas, room for more than 2,000 shops and its very own theme park, but vast swathes now lie empty A shopping centre designed to be the 'biggest in the world ' now sits mostly empty. Built with over 7million square feet of space, the mall boasts fake canals, a rollercoaster, and space for more than 2,000 shops. ‌ The New South China Mall in Dongguan was expected to be the 'busiest' in the world when it was opened in 2004. However, footage from inside the building shows vast swathes of empty retail units. ‌ The shopping centre was designed like a 'small city' with themed areas based on Paris, Venice, and even California. Shoppers could travel around on gondolas or even visit the massive cinema. ‌ According to the Built to Collapse documentary series, the mall was designed to attract affluent shoppers from nearby cities. It was described as a 'bold' and 'exciting' project. The location however is said to be part of the reason why the mall has struggled over the years. Built to Collapse explains: 'The city of Dongguan is full of factory workers and low income families, not the wealthy shoppers the mall was trying to attract. ‌ 'On top of that, the mall was built far from busy areas. It didn't have good public transport and even people living in the city found it hard to get there.' In 2008, it was forecast that around 99 per cent of the mall was left empty, leading to it being dubbed a 'ghost mall'. The shopping centre underwent a huge renovation in 2015 and saw an uplift in occupancy. However when YouTuber Nico visited last year, she found that while some parts of the mall were 'thriving,' others were struggling. She discovered parts of the upper floors were still being renovated. ‌ Nico and her husband Jack also found the theme park had shut down when they visited, with a letter explaining the operator's lease had expired. Jack commented: 'That's such a wounder. If we'd come just a few weeks before we could have gone on the train track, we could have gone on the go-karts, we could have gone and stroked the dinosaur.' Nico and Jack also found problems with the mall's location, describing it as a 'ballache' to get to from nearby Guangzhou. Nico added: 'It's nowhere near any public transport and Shenzhen and Guangzhou have quite a few malls anyway, so why would people come this far?' ‌ Nico says she had heard the $1.31bn mall had seen a spike in occupancy but found a different picture when she visited. She explained: 'I did read that this mall is almost at full capacity but I think that's a bit of BS because there are a lot of shops and empty retail spaces, especially in the second and third floor of this building. 'But, on the ground floor though, that is thriving and there's loads and loads of stuff down there.' Nico says the decision to move away from luxury shops into businesses that could be sustained by the local population meant it became 'more appealing' for people in Dongguan, such as nail bars and smaller stores. The South China Mall was the brainchild of instant noodle billionaire Hu Guirong. It remains the fifth-largest shopping centre in the world. The top spot is currently occupied by the Iran Mall in Tehran, which boasts over 3,410,000 sq ft of shopping space. The Iran Mall opened in 2018 and is home to more than 2,500 shops. It has space to park around 20,000 cars.
