Which is why most of us are forced to fork out for a fan to avoid a restless, sweaty sleep and feeling shattered and drained the next day.
But did you know that there is a part of your home that can actually cool you for free? And no, it's not the windows.
A sleep expert has now revealed that the precise position of your door can make all the difference when it comes to keeping cool at bedtime in the summer.
This is because, depending on how it is placed, it can significantly reduce bedroom temperatures.
Which, in turn, can save you from facing an uncomfortable night's rest.
Dr Jordan Burns, from Amerisleep, says the way bedroom doors are positioned affects airflow patterns within sleeping spaces.

And this can either create cooling cross-ventilation or it can trap heat, depending on the angle chosen.
The specialist said: "Most people focus solely on windows for cooling, but bedroom doors control how air circulates throughout your sleeping space.
"A properly positioned door can make the difference between restful sleep and hours of uncomfortable tossing and turning."
So, what is the perfect position to leave your door at night for a nice, cool, blissful sleep?
Dr Burns has said that everyone should take a more precise approach and suggests positioning the door at a 45-degree angle.
The sleep doctor explained: "The optimal angle for a bedroom door at night is approximately 45 degrees.
"This specific position creates what fluid dynamics calls a 'venturi effect' that accelerates airflow through the narrower opening, pulling hot air out more efficiently than a fully open door would."
But he warns that you should never leave your door completely open or fully closed if you want a cool space.
Dr Burns said this is the most common mistake people make during hot weather, and it can actually leave you feeling WARMER.
He added: "A completely open door actually slows down airflow in many cases because the opening is too large to create the pressure differentials that drive air movement.
"Conversely, a fully closed door prevents any air exchange, trapping heat and moisture that build up while you sleep."
The sleep expert suggests a simple method to test if your door positioning is working effectively for bedroom cooling.
Dr Bruns advised: "Place a lightweight ribbon or tissue near the gap between the door and frame.
"If it moves toward the door, you're successfully drawing air through the room.
"If it remains still or moves away, adjust your window and door configuration until you achieve proper airflow.
"Good sleep remains possible during hot weather if you understand how to control airflow in your home.
"Door positioning is a cost-free intervention that can improve your sleeping environment.
"It can also reduce both energy costs and environmental impact compared to mechanical cooling options."

States battling outbreak of 'bone-breaking' virus brought in from Asia and Africa
Hawaii has reported a dozen cases of 'bone-breaking' dengue fever, prompting urgent warnings from health officials. The Hawaii Department of Health this week confirmed a case of dengue fever on the island of Oahu in a resident who contracted it during international travel. It's unclear exactly where the individual traveled, but the health department said it was a region where dengue is common, such as southeast Asia, South America, the Caribbean or Africa. This brings the state's total for 2025 to 12, which is already approaching the total of 16 reported in the entirety of last year. So far in 2025, the CDC has confirmed 2,725 cases of dengue fever across 46 states and territories, most of which were locally acquired within the US. Dengue is most common in six states, and the CDC reports of locally acquired cases in Florida, Texas, Hawaii, Arizona and California. While cases have been on the rise in years past, figures are slowing after a dengue outbreak last year resulted in a record-high 8,000 infections. Spread by bites from infected mosquitoes, the disease has been nicknamed 'break-bone fever' because sufferers say their joints and muscles can become so painful it feels like their bones are breaking. And about one in 20 people with symptoms suffer bleeding, gasping for air and shock. All cases detected in Hawaii so far have been in people who traveled to regions where dengue is more common, so the agency warned people returning from endemic areas contact their doctor if they develop symptoms within two weeks. Mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus are usually found in tropical and subtropical regions like Central and South America, Africa, South Asia and the Pacific Islands. In the US, dengue is most prevalent in Florida, Texas and California, as well as the territory Puerto Rico. According to CDC data, Puerto Rico has reported the most dengue cases at 2,152 so far this year. Florida has seen 115 cases while California has seen 62. The disease spreads through mosquito bites and cannot be transmitted from person to person. Roughly 400million people get dengue fever every year but eight in 10 don't develop any symptoms. Those who do usually experience a high fever, blotchy rash, muscle aches, joint pain and pain behind the eyes. But in rare and severe cases, the condition can cause vomiting or throwing up blood, intense joint pain and trouble breathing. These issues may further cause internal bleeding, leading to death. Thirteen percent of patients die from the disease if they do not receive treatment. There is no antiviral for dengue fever, but the World Health Organization says that by rapidly replacing lost fluids the mortality rate drops to less than one percent. A vaccine for dengue is available and approved by the FDA for children aged nine to 16 years old, but its manufacturer, French pharma giant Sanofi Pasteur, has discontinued production globally, citing a lack of demand. Doses are available in Puerto Rico, but these are expected to run out by 2026. Dengue cases have surged in Latin America, thought to be linked to the El Nino weather cycle at that time - which brings more heavy rains to areas of the continent - leading to more standing water in which mosquitoes can multiply. At the same time, rising temperatures have allowed mosquitoes to be active for longer each year and advance further north. In areas of the world where outbreaks are not as common, upticks are being linked in part to travel, leading to people who become infected abroad to enter the US then get bitten by a mosquito, which passes the virus to the insect and allows it to take root in the local mosquito population. The CDC urges Americans traveling to high-risk areas to carry insect repellent, wear long sleeves and long pants outside and sleep in air-conditioned rooms or those with window screens to prevent being bitten.

Maine clinics hope to get blocked Medicaid funds restored as they sue Trump administration over cuts
A network of clinics that provides health care in Maine is expected to ask a judge Thursday to restore its Medicaid funding while it fights a Trump administration effort to keep federal money from going to abortion providers. President Donald Trump's policy and tax bill, known as the ' big beautiful bill,' blocked Medicaid money from flowing to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. The parameters in the bill also stopped funding from reaching Maine Family Planning, a much smaller provider that offers health care services in one of the poorest and most rural states in the Northeast. A federal judge ruled last month that Planned Parenthood clinics around the country must continue to be reimbursed for Medicaid funding as the provider wrangles with the Trump administration over efforts to defund it. Maine Family Planning filed a federal lawsuit last month seeking to restore reimbursements. Lawyers and representatives for Maine Family Planning say its 18 clinics provide vital services across the state including cervical cancer screenings, contraception and primary care to low-income residents. They also say the funding cut occurred even though Medicaid dollars are not used for its abortion services. 'Without Medicaid, MFP will be forced to stop providing all primary care for all patients — regardless of their insurance status — by the end of October,' the organization said in a statement, adding that about 8,000 patients receive family planning and primary care from the network. It also said many Maine Family Planning clinics 'provide care in very rural areas of the state where there are no other health care providers, and around 70% of their patients rely exclusively on MFP and will not see any other health care provider in a given year.' In court documents, Anne Marie Costello, deputy director for the Center for Medicaid & CHIP Services, called the request to restore funding 'legally groundless' and said it 'must be firmly rejected.' 'The core of its claim asks this Court to revive an invented constitutional right to abortion — jurisprudence that the Supreme Court decisively interred — and to do so in a dispute over federal funds,' Costello said. While advocates of cutting Medicaid for abortion providers focused on Planned Parenthood, the bill did not mention it by name. Instead it cut off reimbursements for organizations that are primarily engaged in family planning services — which generally include things such as contraception, abortion and pregnancy tests — and received more than $800,000 from Medicaid in 2023. The U.S. Senate's parliamentarian rejected a 2017 effort to defund Planned Parenthood because it was written to exclude all other providers by barring payments only to groups that received more than $350 million a year in Medicaid funds. Maine Family Planning asserts in its legal challenge that the threshold was lowered to $800,000 this time around to make sure Planned Parenthood would not be the only entity affected. It is the only other organization that has come forward publicly to say its funding is at risk. Planned Parenthood's legal fight with the Trump administration over Medicaid funding is still in the court system also.

Prasad, a longtime critic of the FDA, is viewed as a top ally to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr . Kennedy along with Prasad's boss, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary, were also key to undoing the damage caused by Loomer as they pleaded for his return. 'After Vinay left, Marty and Bobby worked very, very, very hard through Susie Wiles, the president's chief of staff, to tell the president that Vinay was not anti-Trump,' claimed one of the anonymous senior administration officials to Politico. 'The MAHA movement is an expansion of the MAGA, sort of, you know, big tent,' the source added. Trump's decision to bring Prasad back into the fold showcased the limits of Loomer's influence within the White House. Moreover, the president's reversal gave a small win to Kennedy who is attempting to completely reform US regulation surrounding drugs and vaccines. According to Politico, Loomer has set her sights on bringing down Kennedy and his top aides because she believes he will use his time in the administration to launch a presidential bid in 2028. Loomer had accused Prasad of being disloyal to Trump by citing past social media posts he had made amid the 2020 pandemic when he claimed he was once a supporter of Bernie Sanders. Makary and Kennedy, with assistance from Wiles, persuaded the Oval Office to review their decision to axe Prasad by arguing that his prior statements were taken out of context. 'I think it really is something good about the president that he's willing to change his mind when persuaded,' one of the anonymous senior administration officials told Politico. In recent weeks, Loomer has gone after a number of MAGA Trump loyalists on social media, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lindsey Graham.
