Paul Simon's daughter tears into Richard Gere for selling childhood home to developer
Lulu Simon wrote on Instagram: 'Hate! Him!' next to a picture of the Pretty Woman actor and a link to a news story about the home being torn down in the face of anger from preservationists.
Ms Simon, 30, a pop singer, claimed that Mr Gere 'promised he would take care of the land' in New Canaan, Connecticut, when he bought it from her father in 2022.
Mr Gere sold it to a developer last year for $10.75 million and the company is planning to knock down the six-bedroom mansion, which was built in 1938 on a 32-acre plot.
In its place will be nine homes, SBP Homes has said.
In her now-deleted post Ms Simon included an image of Mr Gere, 75, surrounded by photos of her late pets.
She wrote: 'I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness.'
The rancour began in 2022 when Mr Simon and his wife Edie Brickell sold the home, which was designed by architect Harold R Sleeper, to Mr Gere.
Mr Simon had owned it for 20 years and bought it 20 years ago for $16.5 million. The home was not listed publicly and Mr Gere bought it at a discount, for just $10.8 million.
Originally Mr Gere planned to turn the estate into a farm, according to details shared with local planners in 2023.
But those plans changed in late 2024 when Mr Gere relocated to Spain with his wife Alejandra Gere, 42, with whom he has two sons Alexander, five, and James, four.
Instead they sold the property to SBP Homes which recently revealed its development plans.
In her post, Ms Simon posted herself flashing a peace sign and said: 'Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!
'He bought my childhood home. Promised he would take care of the land as (a) condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in and just sold it to a developer as nine separate plots.
'Hate! Him!'
Ms Simon continued her rant with a second post about the dead pets.
Both posts were deleted around 18 hours after they were first put online.

Heartbreaking new details have emerged about Danielle Spencer's final days following her death at age 60 on Monday. Doctors revived her and transferred her to intensive care, but her heart continued to weaken. Pelt told the outlet she died of cardiac arrest and gastric cancer. After leaving acting, Spencer fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian, working in the Los Angeles area for more than two decades. In 2013, illness forced her to move in with her mother in Virginia. Pelt added that her daughter endured years of health struggles, including lasting injuries from a serious car accident that claimed the life of her stepfather, Tim Pelt. Taylor Swift fought back tears in an emotional appearance on Travis Kelce 's New Heights podcast as she opened up on how she fought for years to reclaim the masters of her music. In a special episode ushering in her new 'era', Swift unveiled the front cover of her 12th album 'The Life of a Showgirl', to be released October 3 and featuring 12 new songs. 'It's a complete 180 on Tortured Poets,' Kelce said in an early review of the sound of the record. But it was Swift breaking down in tears and Kelce kissing her on the head as she composed herself about the battle to reclaim her master recordings that quickly became the most striking moment. The couple held hands throughout the show, Kelce often stroking hers as she spoke in a very PDA-heavy appearance. With over around 1.3million fans tuning in for the live stream - which even crashed at one stage - she explained how Kelce was playing video games when she found out she had got the rights back, and the loved-up NFL man started weeping when he was told. Swift had sent her mother and brother to Los Angeles to negotiate with Shamrock Capital, the owners, on her behalf. 'I haven't gotten my hopes up about this in a decade. A couple months after the Super Bowl I was in Kansas City,' Swift said, adding she had been saving to buy her masters since she was a teenager. 'I get a call from my mom. 'The owners of it was a private equity firm called Shamrock Capital. I knew them to be aboveboard people - they had been very friendly to us. 'What I was looking to do, though, was I wanted to buy my music outright. I don't want to be in a partnership, I don't want to own 30% of it. I want to own all of it. But it was a long shot to think they would do that.' Swift also joked that Travis used the podcast as a dating app by publicly revealing he had tried and failed to give Swift his phone number after she had performed at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City back in 2023. His admission at the time eventually led to the start of their relationship. 'This podcast had done a lot for me. This podcast got me a boyfriend,' Swift said, explaining why she was finally on the show to make her album announcement. 'It was wild, but it worked. He is the good kind of crazy. The first time we talked, he was truly getting to know me. He is just a vibe booster in everyone's life that he's in. He's like an exclamation point.' Swift admitted she knew nothing about football until meeting Kelce but is now 'obsessed' and was even screaming in excitement when the Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy in 2024.
