Rajasthan BJP leader expelled for criticising party over Jagdeep Dhankhar, Satya Pal Malik: Who is Krishan Kumar Janu?
But it was for the first time on August 8 that Janu – the surname representing his Jat gotra – hit national headlines after the Rajasthan BJP expelled him for six years for targeting the party over its treatment of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik and ex-Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, both Jats, in a video that went viral. Janu in the video is seen slamming the party's Jat leaders while urging them to speak up.
'I have a habit of speaking freely and I felt that the party was in the wrong, be it the Dhankhar case or with Malik. So, I spoke and wrote against this politics of prejudice and vendetta. If Jats in the BJP can't speak, then what is the point of them staying in the party? What good can they do for the community if they can't speak out? I had asked questions of Jat leaders in the BJP, be it the MPs or MLAs and not the BJP. But my expulsion means that the party needs deaf and dumb people, not the ones who speak up,' Janu told The Indian Express.
Terming the move not to accord Dhankhar a farewell as 'shameful', Janu said, 'It is the limit of shamelessness when the party is exacting revenge upon the dead and not giving him (Malik) the Tricolour as a shroud. Our culture says that once you are dead, all the disputes and all the fights are over. You are humiliating someone who has been an MLA, minister, party national vice president and Governor in multiple states. It is the definition of a narrow mindset. It is very sad.'
While his comments led him to face the axe from the BJP, Janu's family traces its antecedents to freedom fighter Sardar Harlal Singh, also a Jat leader and the first president of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee in independent India. Unlike most of his family members, Janu chose to follow the Sangh ideology in 1986.
He was a full-time member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for about ten years and was its Sangathan Mantri, mostly in the Shekhawati region, as well as in Bikaner. He then rose to the post of seh-mantri at the state level and was a part of the ABVP's National Executive Council for four years.
He also ran a departmental store and EYE TV news channel next door in Churu, and also contested as a BJP candidate for Jhunjhunu's Mandawa Assembly seat in 2003, but stood fifth. Janu says that veteran BJP leader Rajendra Rathore was against him ever since his student politics days and opposed him when he got a ticket too.
Janu then worked with the Vishva Hindu Parishad for about five years, and was the samrasta seh-prabhari for the Jaipur region – the other two being Jodhpur and Chittorgarh in Rajasthan – where he was tasked with ensuring harmony between castes and communities, including Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
Subsequently, he was relieved by the VHP and sent to the BJP as its political appointee. The BJP first made him a media panellist and then a spokesperson in 2022.
'I would like to thank the party for rewarding me with an expulsion for speaking the truth. If my party is going in the wrong direction, I will continue to question it. As I have experience in the media, I will again join them and put my points across. I will continue to bring out the visangati (inconsistencies) within the party,' he said after his expulsion.
Claiming that the BJP will see the consequences of its actions in the panchayat polls later this year, Janu said, 'It is my moral duty to make the party realise that it has made a mistake. There are things which I couldn't speak before as I was bound by party discipline, but now I will give voice to my thoughts,' he said, and questioned why he was being targeted even as leaders of other communities in the BJP were allowed to speak freely.
A Jat Mahasabha state secretary, Janu said, 'I have merely made the point of humiliation of Jat community members. If community members from the Vipra (Foundation) are post holders in the party, if (the late) Ramdas Agarwal was BJP's state president, if Karni Sena and Kshatriya Yuvak Sangh leaders also hold posts in the BJP and there are no objections or restrictions on them, the track politics of expelling a Jat community leader from the BJP… they need weak Jat leaders as showpieces. They don't need strong Jat leaders who have a hold on the ground.'
'I have nothing against the party, but vyaktivaad (person-centric) politics. Where is community leadership? If Congress's politics of nepotism is bad, then so is the BJP's person-centric politics. We made a BJP government in 2014 but by 2019, it became the 'Modi government'. A person is not important in the ideology I follow. Guruji K B Hedgewar didn't keep himself first but asked us to follow the param pavitra bhagwa dhwaj (most sacred saffron flag) as the guru, because a person's degeneration can happen anytime,' Janu said.
Claiming that BJP state president Madan Rathore recently told him to avoid writing certain things, Janu said, 'He told me that I should discuss it at an appropriate stage, but when there is none in the party, Zuckerberg's platform (Facebook) seems the most appropriate to me. There was a discussion on what I said only after reading my comments on this platform, and I was served a notice only after my comments were read on this platform.'
On whether he will join the Congress or the Jat-dominated Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, Janu said that the Congress in his hometown Jhunjhunu is ridden with the Ola family and its politics, and thus has no vacancies. As for the politics of change in the state, he said there are still about four years to go for state polls. 'Till then, I will keep forcing my community members in the party to speak up or push the community for their boycott,' he said.

As PM Modi Inaugurates Namma Metro, Karnataka Govt Highlights Contribution Hinting At Credit War
BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Sunday that the state's contribution to Bengaluru's Namma Metro was 80 per cent while that of the Centre was only 20 per cent. Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, he said, "I will appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide at least Rs 1 lakh crore for Bengaluru. The Centre was supposed to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the Metro project but it hasn't given. However, we completed the project in the interest of the city. Though Bengaluru is the second highest tax contributor, it gets very little in return." "Ahmedabad is given 20 per cent of the tax devolution while Bengaluru gets only 10 per cent. Bengaluru needs to be treated on par with other large cities in the country like Delhi. We are not doing politics over this, we are only appealing," Shivakumar added. BJP hasn't brought even Rs 10 as funds for Karnataka, he chided. "BJP claims it has done everything. No BJP MP has even got Rs 10 as funds for Bengaluru. They should be ashamed of themselves. The Union Jal Shakti Minister has been responsive at times to our requests. Even MGNREGA funds haven't been released," the Deputy Chief Minister said. "Some BJP MPs think that tweeting and media coverage amounts to achievement. MPs must keep aside politics and PR and work for the welfare of the people," he said, while lashing out at the BJP MPs from the city. "The Centre has completely neglected Karnataka and hasn't released any funds. We have invited the Prime Minister out of respect for the post. We have implemented innovative double-decker project which can be a model for other Metros," he added. "Bengaluru generates one lakh new IT jobs every year. The Metro Yellow line will benefit the IT corridor. Electronic City flyover was also completed at the time of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh," Shivakumar told. Asked about BJP's comments that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's contribution to Metro phase 2 and 3, the Deputy Chief Minister said, "There is no contribution. All this started during former Chief Minister late S.M. Krishna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure. Let them (Union government) release the data on their contribution, I will release the numbers too." "I would like to thank Infosys Delta, Biocon and other companies, who contributed to building the Metro Yellow line stations," Shivakumar concluded.

Congress to audit voters' list over 'irregularities' in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, says Venugopal
AICC general secretary K C Venugopal on Sunday (August 10, 2025) said the Congress will launch a comprehensive audit to uncover alleged irregularities in the voters' list from the last Lok Sabha elections. He said there were 48 constituencies where INDIA bloc candidates lost by fewer than 50,000 votes, and the party would carry out extensive checks in all of them. Speaking to reporters in Alappuzha, Mr. Venugopal alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "did not assume office with a genuine mandate", claiming this became evident after Rahul Gandhi released "evidence of electoral fraud". <Mr. Venugopal said, "A comprehensive audit will be conducted to identify irregularities in the voters' list from the last Lok Sabha elections." Gandhi on Thursday made explosive claims of a "huge criminal fraud" in polls through collusion between the BJP and the EC, as he cited an analysis in a constituency in Karnataka and said it was "a crime against the Constitution". The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka on Thursday (August 7, 2025) asked Mr. Gandhi to share the names of electors he claimed were either included or excluded wrongfully from the voters' list of the state, along with a signed declaration for the poll authorities to initiate "necessary proceedings". Alleging that the BJP 'seized power' by manipulating the voter list in the 2019 polls, Mr. Venugopal claimed a proper investigation could force "Modi to resign". Instead, he accused the Election Commission of 'threatening' Mr. Gandhi and the Congress for raising objections. However, Mr. Venugopal claimed the ECI is yet to respond to the irregularities flagged. "Don't try to scare us," he told the Commission, adding that Congress would continue its fight. He announced a protest march to the EC office in New Delhi on August 11, to be led by party MPs. The Congress leader also alleged that fake voters were included in the rolls in Kerala, citing Thrissur and Alappuzha constituencies as examples.

Rahul Gandhi misled nation with ‘Constitution will be changed' lie: Ramdas Athawale
Republican Party of India (Athawale) chief and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has taken a sharp aim at opposition leaders, including Sharad Pawar, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and other INDIA bloc leaders. In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Athawale slammed the opposition for spreading what he called 'false narratives' to mislead the public and also shared key details of his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Responding to Sharad Pawar's controversial statement -- wherein the former Union Minister claimed that two individuals approached him during the Maharashtra elections and assured him of winning 160 seats -- Athawale said: 'If someone is making such a claim, they could be trying to blackmail. Elections are a democratic process, and such statements raise doubts about integrity.' Addressing the ongoing controversy around EVMs, Athawale acknowledged the possibility of technical issues in some machines but dismissed broader allegations: 'There might be glitches in a few EVMs, but it's incorrect to say all machines are faulty. When the NDA won fewer seats and the INDIA bloc won more, we did not question the system. We respected the results.' Athawale accused Rahul Gandhi of misleading the electorate during the Lok Sabha elections by falsely claiming that the Constitution would be changed under the BJP government: 'Rahul Gandhi and his allies spread the false narrative that Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution would be scrapped. There is no truth to this. The public now sees through these lies.' Revealing details of his meeting with PM Modi, Ramdas Athawale said they discussed the success of Operation Sindoor, a recent counter-terror operation. 'Our armed forces destroyed terrorist hideouts without any civilian casualties. That is commendable.' He also raised concerns about seat-sharing in Maharashtra, alleging that the BJP's state unit is not treating RPI fairly within the Mahayuti (grand alliance). 'I told the Prime Minister that RPI is being sidelined in seat distribution. We're being denied seats in Zilla Parishads, local body elections, and even one ministerial and one MLC post that we are demanding. PM Modi discussed with me about our party's performance, and I believe Devendra Fadnavis will do justice and fulfil our demands.' Taking another swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Athawale said: 'Rahul Gandhi avoids approaching the Election Commission and prefers misleading people through public statements. The Commission has already stated that if there are any mistakes, they're open to correction. If Rahul has proof of bogus voting, he should submit it, not just create drama.' Speaking on the BJP-led NDA's performance, Athawale admitted losses in the Lok Sabha polls but emphasised their comeback in later elections: 'Yes, we suffered losses in the general elections, but BJP and NDA have bounced back in Haryana, Delhi, and Maharashtra. In Maharashtra alone, we won 237 seats. The public continues to trust us.'
