The truth behind Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden's shock split that left him blindsided as she moved in with TV star
Charley was said to be less than impressed with her ex airing their dirty laundry in public, insiders revealed TANGLED WEBB The truth behind Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden's shock split that left him blindsided as she moved in with TV star THEY appeared to have it all, flying careers, three beautiful boys and an impressive country mansion - but out of the blue, it all came crashing down for Matthew Wolfenden. His partner of 15 years, Charley Webb, brutally ended their marriage - and now for the first time, insiders have revealed why she decided to call it quits and move in with a star actress. 13 Insiders revealed why Charley Webb's marriage to Emmerdale co-star Matthew Wolfenden came crashing down Credit: Getty 13 Mother-of-three Charley left Matthew blindsided as she moved in with fellow TV star Credit: Rex 13 The pair are both devoted to their three kids but have now moved on with new lives Credit: Instagram In 2023, Charley, now 37, embarked on her first stage tour. It was a big deal, landing a part playing Diana Ingram in Quiz - her first notable role since she quit playing Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale. And she shone on stage - Charley received rave reviews and insiders say it sparked a burning desire to take her life in a new direction. A source close to Charley said: 'It was a big turning point for her when she landed the role and took to the road. 'It was the first time in years she was fully herself again, not mum, not Debbie - but a stage actress. 'There was a lot of downtime when she was on her own, and she really had a chance to think about what she wanted from her life.' It was a tough time for me, it was a time of big changes and then this on top of things wasn't the best news in the world Matthew on the split Husband Matthew was meanwhile at their home in Yorkshire, looking after their boys Buster, 15, Bowie, eight, and Ace, four, completely unaware of what was to come. He had just left Emmerdale and was getting ready to head to London for a stage show of his own. Charley moved back to the family home, while Matthew headed to London to appear in Elf, where he met and fell for his current girlfriend - Heather Scott Martin, who was also working in the production. An insider revealed: 'It was incredibly hard for Matthew because people saw him with Heather and assumed he was behind the split. Emmerdale star Charley Webb flaunts her toned abs as she strips to black bikini on holiday in Turkey 'He kept a dignified silence at the time and only decided to speak out about it all much later on. 'By that time, the dust had settled and Charley had found solace elsewhere.' And that new independent direction was supported by close pal and fellow stage and screen star Sheridan Smith. 'Out of the blue' Matthew, 45, has since spoken openly about the break up - admitting it wasn't his decision and he wouldn't have gone about it in the way Charley did, revealing his concern for their boys. He recalled: 'Out of the blue, I got this news that she wanted to separate. 13 After Charley and Matthew split she moved out to live with Sheridan Smith Credit: Click News and Media 13 Charley and Sheridan even Christmas together, which Charley said was the best yet Credit: Instagram / @miss_charleywebb 13 Sheridan and Charley are inseparable and are said to have supported each other a lot Credit: instagram 13 Charley recently delighted her fans with a series of bikini snaps while on holiday Credit: Instagram 13 Charley looked to be having a ball with some girlfriends in Bodrum Credit: Instagram 'It was a tough time for me, it was a time of big changes, and then this on top of things wasn't the best news in the world. But things happen for a reason and yeah. 'It was a very very tough time, but these things happen, and I'm not the first person in the world to have separated from their partner with kids involved. 'It was the fact that the kids were quite young, and it wasn't only a couple of years ago. That was a concern to me. We had to move onwards.' He added on the podcast The Lewis Nicholls Show: 'I didn't expect it at all, it was a big shock. Separation is very difficult when you've spent 15 years together, your lives together and everything you own is together - just sorting out.' 'Huge support' Once he returned from London, the former couple kept their house for another year before putting it on the market for £900,000 in January this year. After Charley moved out in late 2023, she move in with best pal Sheridan finding comfort with her fellow single mum, an award winning TV, film and stage star. Sheridan, 44, shares a son, Billy, with her former fiancé, Jamie Horn, and recently split with her boxer boyfriend, Dave Ryan. The pals' bond grew further last summer when they jetted off to Greece for a sun-soaked holiday. The two even spent Christmas together, which Charley called her 'favourite Christmas yet', sharing joyful snaps of their celebrations. Charley became a big part of Billy's life and has supported Sheridan, who she calls 'bae', with childcare while she works. 13 Charley and Matthew first started dating back in 2007 Credit: Instagram 13 Matthew is still with new love Heather Scott-Martin Credit: Instagram/matthewwolfenden55 13 The pair were the soap's golden couple - thanks to their roles on Emmerdale Credit: Instagram@charleywebb A friend revealed: 'Sheridan and Charley have both been huge supports for each other. 'They have been through similar things and have also bonded over their love of acting. 'They love spending time together and even got a dog together. 'Their kids are all really close now too, so it just works really well.' We're always going to have a relationship. Matthew Wolfenden Initially, things were frosty between Charley and Matthew as they tried to work out their new arrangement, but the former couple have put their differences aside and found a way forward. Matthew explained: 'Everything was a bit up in the air for the first few months, but we're very very amicable, we're still friends and we've got kids together, so you have to be. 'We had the best 15 years together, and we had three amazing kids together. But in terms of co-parenting, we decided we'd do a week on, week off.' And for now, the situation seems to be working well - Matthew is still with his new love, Heather, Charley is landing exciting new roles, but most importantly, their children are happy. It's thought Charley was slightly perturbed about Matthew's decision to air their dirty laundry, but she is happy to move on. She recently jetted off on a girls' holiday to Bodrum, Turkey and delighted fans with a series of bikini snaps as she relished her new independence before flying home to Sheridan. The friend added: 'Matthew might have been blindsided about the split, but he has managed to work through his initial shock and concern. He feels better that people know it wasn't his choice. 'They have really shown how to co-parent properly and are determined to keep things amicable - no matter what.' 13 It's thought Charley was slightly perturbed about Matthew's decision to air their dirty laundry but she is happy to move on Credit: Rex Features 13 Charley is landing exciting new roles Credit: ITV

Netflix fans can rediscover Stephen Graham's 'forgotten' period drama
The Adolescence star plays Inspector Heat Netflix has subtly added all episodes of Stephen Graham's 'forgotten' period drama based on a highly praised novel. The four-part series, The Secret Agent, is now accessible to subscribers of the streaming service. Originally aired on the BBC in 2016, the mini-series is now available for a wider audience. The show masterfully combines elements of period drama and spy thriller, although even ardent fans of these genres may have overlooked it. Set in London in 1886, it follows a shopkeeper who moonlights as a spy for the Russian Embassy, finding himself under pressure to execute a politically-motivated act of terrorism, all while grappling with the risk of his true identity being revealed. The Secret Agent is an adaptation of the renowned satirical novel by Joseph Conrad, first published in 1907. Despite not achieving commercial success upon its release, it has since been recognised as one of Conrad's finest works. Some critics have even hailed it as ahead of its time due to its exploration of global terrorism themes, reports Surrey Live. Toby Jones heads the cast as Anton Verloc, the eponymous secret agent, alongside some of the most familiar faces in British television. Vicky McClure, known for her role in Line of Duty, portrays his wife Winnie, while Charlie Hamblett plays her brother Stevie, later appearing in Missing You, a Harlan Coben adaptation for Netflix. Stephen Graham from Adolescence also features, taking on the role of Chief Inspector Heat. When the series first aired, it received a mixed reception from critics. The Radio Times praised it as "a gripping period tale exploring urgent modern anxieties." while The Telegraph was less favourable, describing it as "one of the bleakest, murkiest and most disturbing dramas this year". The original book's complexity led esteemed film critic Roger Ebert to once deem it unfilmable, which might explain why the adaptation didn't resonate with everyone. Some reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with minor deviations from the source material. Nevertheless, there are fans who have come out in support of the series amidst the critiques. A fan defended the show online, stating: "I'm puzzled by the reviews that claim all of Conrad's brilliant story have been abandoned. Utterly untrue. All the main points of the original story are here. The betrayals, the ethical compromises, the cowardice. Not a single one missing. What had changed is how the story is told. Conrad jumped back and forth, a device that works better on writing than on TV." They elaborated further: "The result is a thoughtful carefully constructed story that resists the urge to pick up the tempo just for the sake of a little excitement. Some lovely performances by the whole cast. No one is cast as either superhero or supervillain. These are ordinary people of no great distinction, no matter their place in life. Both evil and justice are flawed and banal." Another chimed in: "This is a totally enthralling production. It is very contemporary in its topic. Considering when the story was originally written, it has a very modern appeal. The story has twists and turns. The ending is very intriguing. The acting is excellent. Toby Jones and all the cast give marvellous performances. I would highly recommend this." The Secret Agent is streaming on Netflix.

Arlene Phillips makes ‘tough' Strictly Come Dancing admission as she addresses scandal
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Dame Arlene Phillips has opened up about how motherhood at 47 and her tenure on Strictly Come Dancing reshaped her approach to communication and teaching dance. The respected choreographer and former Strictly judge, now aged 82 with two daughters and two granddaughters, has spoken candidly of her experiences balancing her role as a single parent with her elder daughter Alana and her career revelations, reports Devon Live. Speaking to The Times, Dame Arlene said: "I was a single mother when I had my elder daughter, Alana. I took two weeks off for the birth and when I came back, I had my own Winnebago, a nanny, a PA and a guru who would meditate with me every day. "I didn't request any of it. I was 47 when Angus and I had Abi, which was wonderful as it was so unexpected, like a gift." Arlene discussed her journey on the hit BBC show, she said: "I loved my time on Strictly and it was tough when I left, but I got up and carried on with life. I wasn't there when accusations of bullying were made against some of the dancers, but I was quite strict when I started teaching. "Then I realised there was a different way to talk to people when I had a child. I didn't want to lose my temper. There are ways to get people to do as you want without shouting." (Image: Getty) Her departure from Strictly's panel shocked fans after being a mainstay from 2004 to 2008 before admitting the difficulties she faced after leaving the spotlight. Dame Arlene recounted to the Mirror her coping strategy after a tough experience. She explained: "I gave myself 48 hours to kick, scream, cry and sob, and eat scones with cream and jam, then I made myself wake up and get on with it. "I was very fragile because I had a bereavement the day before [her manager died]. I wanted to know in detail. "I wanted to know the real reason at the point when they decided for me to go, yet they kept me hanging on for so long with the possibility that there would be five judges." Talking to the Express Arlene reflected on her illustrious career and shared her advice for success. She said: "If you're passionate about it just continue the drive and don't let it go. There will always be ups and downs and bumps along the way but just go with it. "Especially post-pandemic, a lot of people seem to feel insecure. But you need to literally listen to yourself. "You take a deep breath and give yourself your best advice. Know that you can do it and just find a way to believe in yourself. Get out and just do it."
