Lewis Capaldi surprises fans as he performs for first time in two years
Lewis Capaldi was a surprise guest at a Campaign Against Living Miserably charity concert - appearing on stage alongside headliner Tom Walker to belt out a string of hits
Lewis Capaldi stunned music fans on Friday night when he made a surprise appearance at charity concert. The 28-year-old Scottish singer has been out of the limelight in recent months and has not performed on stage since 2023.
But fans were thrilled at the end of the week when he appeared at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh during a charity concert in aid of the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). The Forget Me singer joined fellow chart-topping star Tom Walker to sing six songs.
The guest appearance had been teased to those in attendance, with many left gobsmacked by the arrival of the reclusive music star. While a report has stated Lewis - who has battled anxiety and revealed in 2023 he has Tourette's syndrome - announced he was "very nervous" to perform in front of the crowd.
Those in attendance were asked not to film the event - and also had to place their mobile phones into sealed pouches upon entering the concert. Headliner Tom warned fans in advance of the event to prepare to be in a phone-free environment.
He wrote online: "We're keeping this gig super intimate, and that means we're going old school — no phones, no cameras, no filming. Just you, me, and the music.
"The venue will be implementing a phone-free experience using YONDR pouches (you'll keep your phone with you in a locked pouch until after the show). Since you won't be able to access your phone during the event, please remember to bring a physical payment card and some cash if possible, along with photo ID matching your ticket name."
His advanced warning helped keep Lewis's involvement a secret - and he later shared his happiness over the fact that the star joined him on stage. The Just You and I singer told The Sun:"When Lewis confirmed he wanted to do it last minute, I was delighted. We've bumped into each other a few times over the years backstage at fezzys (festivals) and events and he's a total legend.
"I know how much pressure this industry can put on artists at times, especially after a bit of a break. So for him to be able to play a little secret gig in a safe space without all the phones, the noise and the expectations was perfect. I'm buzzing to have been a part of it."
Fans took to social media to congratulate Lewis's return to the spotlight - his first performance since he appeared at Glastonbury in 2023. One wrote on Instagram: "LEWIS YOU WERE INCREDIBLE TONIGHT! Thank you for such an incredible night, I'll never forgot it."
Others were shocked that the chart-topping star was the surprise guest of the night, with one writing: "Genuinely could not believe wtf was happening! I thought the guest would be someone like the red hot chilli pipers but OH MY GODDDDD I regret not sitting closer to the front."
Lewis has been open about his struggles in the past - and has been largely out of the public eye both in real life and online in recent month. Back in January, the chart-topping star opened up about his struggles by posting lyrics on Instagram over a video showing shadows dancing under candlelight.
He wrote a caption alongside the short clip of footage, writing: "my heads a living hell, if i'm honest with myself x #newmusic #mentalhealth."
The lyrics over the images were from his 2023 song, A Cure For Minds Unwell, and state: "If I'm being honest, I couldn't tell you this is all I wanted. I struggle sleepin' 'cause the house feels haunted.
"Filled with the shadows of regret, And the things I should've said, To the ones I laid to rest. And lately, I'm terrified that all my youth is fading. Man, growin' old is so excruciating.
"Is there a cure for minds unwell? 'Cause my head's a livin' hell. If I'm honest with myself."

Romeo Beckham moves on from girlfriend Kim 'with blonde model' in Paris
Romeo and Kim split just two weeks ago. Romeo Beckham only split with his ex, Kim Turnbull, a few weeks ago and has apparently already moved on. The second eldest Beckham child was spotted with a blonde model in Paris. David and Victoria Beckham's 22-year-old son has found himself surrounded by rumours of a family feud after his older brother Brooklyn, 26, decided to avoid their dad's 50th birthday. Brooklyn was reportedly 'uneasy' about Romeo dating Kim, as he was once close friends with her, and felt his parents were 'favouring' his younger brother, who was seen beaming in snaps from David's birthday, writes the Mirror. Amid the family rift, Romeo and Kim parted ways two weeks ago and now it looks like it's all-change again after the latest snaps coming in from Paris. Romeo was spotted in a car in the French capital, sporting a shaved head, wearing a black Champion sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms. He was pictured in the car with German model, Caroline Daur, 30, leaving a bash at the swanky, Hotel Costes. Romeo jumped into a taxi with the influencer - who was rocking a strapless minidress and who has 5m followers on Instagram - and other pals after enjoying an evening together, before hot-footing it to Julia nightclub, where they stayed until the early hours. The pair sparked romance rumours as they went to great lengths not be snapped together as they left the venue separately. However, they then headed off in the same car alongside others, reports the Mail. It is said that Romeo and Caroline bonded over their love of tennis, with both attending the Men's Singles Semi Final at the French Open on Friday. Romeo's representatives have been contacted for comment. Insiders say that things remain 'amicable' between Romeo and his ex Kim, and insist that their split has nothing to do with the bitter Beckham feud, which is said to have been sparked by their relationship. Brooklyn is said to have felt Kim's reasons for dating his brother were 'disingenuous' amid rumours he used to date the DJ. However, in a now deleted Instagram post Cruz Beckham denied Brooklyn was ever in a relationship with Kim. Speaking to the Mail about Romeo's split with the DJ, who the model once referred to his as his "world", a source said: "Romeo and Kim are both young and they had a lovely time together but at that age things don't always last forever and they decided to split up. "They have been friendly since and have even been at the same venues. It's a huge shame, particularly as David and Victoria really adored her and thought she made Romeo happy but it wasn't to be. "David and Victoria would hate for the view to be that they split because of Nicola and Brooklyn because that simply isn't the case." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!

Si Ferry to open Italian restaurant Grosso in Dennistoun
Si Ferry, assistant manager at East Kilbride FC and presenter of the Open Goal podcast, is set to open an Italian restaurant called Grosso at 424 Duke Street in Dennistoun. The venue, expected to open in August, will occupy a unit that formerly housed a Lloyds TSB bank. READ MORE: Foodies hail new Glasgow restaurant as 'fantastic addition' to busy area Glasgow World has revealed early plans for the restaurant, which include striking tiled interiors, an open kitchen with a pizza oven, and seating for up to 50 guests. Construction is currently underway, led by a team of builders working to a design created by Glasgow-based Lucid Interiors — the award-winning studio behind projects such as The Gleneagles Hotel, The Fingal in Leith, and Seamill Hydro. Si told Glasgow World: 'When I lived in Dennistoun, this is the type of place I was looking for, somewhere everyone can come, really affordable, good food that folk will love. "I want this to be for local people and I want people to come to Dennistoun for breakfast, lunch or dinner and go to some of the other bars as well." READ MORE: Glasgow shopping centre welcomes exciting new food spot Ferry, originally from Dundee, began his football career as a youth player at Celtic. As host of the Open Goal podcast, he has interviewed many leading figures in Scottish football and taken the show live to venues including The Hydro and SWG3. Now focused on bringing his dream restaurant to life, Ferry is curating a menu inspired by his favourite dishes, developed with the help of two talented chefs — pizza specialist Ally Beattie and award-winning pasta chef Chris Rouse. The menu will feature a blend of comforting and elevated Italian favourites. Early dishes include prawn and crab linguine, 12-hour longhorn beef shin ragù, crispy roast chicken penne, and spaghetti rigate with vodka sauce. Pizzas will range from classics like margherita and pepperoni to sausage and pepper, with room for more adventurous toppings. READ MORE: New Colombian food spot opens up at the Barras Ferry revealed that the collaboration with his chefs came about through a chance conversation with former footballer Aiden McGeady: 'I met Aiden McGeady, just by chance, and said I was thinking about the restaurant. "When I said it would be Italian, he said Chris Rouse is your guy. Chris actually played at Celtic with me when he was a young kid. "I didn't remember that, but I did remember him from when he was at Celino's. I tried a couple of his pasta dishes and I just fell in love with his food. "The three of us have got together and we've come up with this concept of Grosso.' Si's passion for food is deep-rooted and, by his own admission, played a role in his football journey. He shared: 'Food was a big part of what happened in my football career. I was always overweight when I played football. I was told to stay on a strict diet but we had an Italian restaurant at the bottom of the road when I was at Swindon, Fratellis. "I ended up being really good pals with the owner, I still speak to him now, they had a chicken and asparagus risotto that would blow your mind - full of cream and butter, I was eating that about four times a week. 'That's probably the reason my football career went the way it did - fantastic Italian food. "So I may as well make a new career out of that. I think, for footballers, you live such a rigid life with food Monday to Friday, maybe on a weekend, you get some pizza or pasta and it's something to look forward to. 'Friends, I have in football like Scott Arfield and Charlie Mulgrew, they are excited about the restaurant. "I've asked Slaney to talk to Kieran Tierney about visiting. I've invited Lewis Capaldi to come in as well. "I'm actually doing a bit of training now to help out front of house. It will be nice to have people I've known for years coming in with their families and enjoying the food. "Most of all, I'm looking forward to the people who live here in Dennistoun seeing what we are going to do.' Grosso will join a strong lineup of local food and drink favourites along Duke Street, including Tibo, Redmond's, Zennor, Coia's, La Bodega, and Mesa — further cementing Dennistoun's growing reputation as a vibrant destination for dining and hospitality.
