Saints first hockey team clinches win over St John's

Saints dominated the first half with strong attacking play and quick ball movement, heading into half-time with a comfortable 2–0 lead. St John's, however, were not ready to back down, and came out firing in the second half, pulling one goal back and putting the home team under pressure.
Despite the shift in momentum, Saints regrouped and responded with two more goals, sealing a well-earned 4–1 victory.
Coaches Miguel de Grasa and Patrick Ogan praised the team's performance. 'I thought we moved the ball really nicely and made good connections,' said De Grasa. 'We were quite clinical in the [defence]. We might have left one or two goals out there, but, for the most part, we took our chances.'
Ogan highlighted the team's ability to stay composed under pressure. 'We were only under pressure when we made a few silly mistakes, but the boys reacted well. After conceding, we put them under pressure again and scored twice more.'
Throughout the game, the Saints made small tactical tweaks, including switching between a three-quarter press and a full press when needed. 'We didn't change too much,' the coaches explained. 'These are things we've built into the boys from game one. They've learnt to adapt and execute the plan.'
The match marked the end of the season for the Saints' first team, and what a season it's been. They lost only three matches all year. 'It was a really successful season with a good bunch of guys,' the coaches said proudly. 'Ending it with a win at home made it even more special.'

Randpark Primary hosts mini hockey festival on new Astroturf court
Randpark Primary School hosted the mini hockey festival for the U7, U8, and U9s, officially opening the new Astroturf, known as the Nic Pienaar Multi-Sport Court, named after the school's principal, Nic Pienaar. Five schools took part in the festival, including Cliffview and Waterstone College. The young players filled 6 fields, created on the main field, while others enjoyed the new court. 'I brought it in, and now the little ones have this tournament every year. 'We invite new schools every year, and this year's event went quite well. All the boys, and all the girls, are playing each other once, so we had four games per school. It's a development for the kids.' The youngsters were monitored by umpires and coaches, ensuring they were safe at all times during the 10-minute games, featuring one exciting half. Stadtlander added that she is excited that they have finally opened the new court. 'We've been talking about this for about two to three years. Now, during the hockey season, it's open for games and practices, and the kids are loving it.' PinkDrive at Hillary Bowling Club

It wasn't just the colour that caught the eye; it was the atmosphere. The air buzzed with laughter, chatter and the unmistakable hum of competition. This was Hillary's annual Women's Day fundraiser for the PinkDrive campaign, an event that blends sport, spectacle and heartfelt giving. Bowlers battled for their share of R4 650 in prize money for first, second and third places. The effort to embrace the theme was every bit as impressive as the skill on the greens. Hillary Club President, Wade Marshall, summed up the day's spirit simply: 'This is our way of giving back.' Now in its fifth year, the PinkDrive fundraiser has become a fixture on the Hillary BC calendar. 'Bowling clubs often rely on community sponsorship,' he explained, 'so this is our way to say thank you — and to support a cause that directly benefits our community.' The PinkDrive NGO offers free early detection services for breast and cervical cancer, and more recently, lung cancer. Their work saves lives, but it relies entirely on fundraising and sponsorships. For Hillary BC, the decision to keep the greens open for this cause each year is an easy one. They not only attend the event each year, but also pledge to match the funds raised on the day. 'We run rallies through the year,' said Dragons' spokesperson, Andrew Bezuidenhout, 'and the funds go to organisations that support cancer patients.' PinkDrive's vibrant KZN Marketing and Event Co-ordinator, Janice Benecke, radiated enthusiasm as she spoke about the impact of such support. 'We are forever grateful to Hillary Bowling Club and the Highway Dragons,' she said. 'Every rand we raise goes directly towards keeping our mobile clinics running and paying the qualified staff who make our services possible. Without events like this, we couldn't do what we do.' After three hotly contested 15-end games, the winners emerged. First place — and R2 250 — went to the Arnold family: Dave, Maria, and their son, Terrance. Second prize went to Cedric McLaughlin and Brian and Ricky Fields — with Ricky immediately donating her share back to PinkDrive. The day was dotted with prizes, all generously sponsored by Hillary BC members. Braai fires crackled in the background, rounding off the perfect combination of sport and camaraderie.
