Nandipha Magudumana's appearance in court alongside her co-accused Thabo Bester has left many South Africans wondering what went wrong for the former doctor.
Known for her glamorous appearance, successful businesses, perfect family life, and beautiful homes, many believe that the woman in the dock is a shadow of her former self.
Nandipha and Bester are currently facing charges of orchestrating his 2022 prison escape, defrauding the public, and violating multiple bodies. They appeared at the Free State High Court for a pre-trial hearing, which has been postponed to 19 September.
While Thabo Bester appeared as suave as his charming personality, Nandipha Magudumana looked gaunt and run-down in the courtroom.
Bester – has has been previously convicted of murder, rape and fraud – wore a black stylish coat and a pair of trendy spectacles. Nandipha – who donned red lipstick and a hoodie – displayed hollow cheeks and expressionless eyes.
Her appearance quickly became a trending topic on social media.

According to GroundUp – which broke the news of Thabo Bester's prison escape – Nandipha Maguumana began visiting the convict in prison in 2017.
At the time, Bester was serving three concurrent life sentences, which he was handed down in 2011 and 2012. They were for two counts of rape, one count of murder, and armed robbery with aggravating circumstances.

However, in her sworn statement since her arrest, Nandipha claims she met Thabo Bester at Wits University in 2006, where he allegedly studied theology. The Department of Home Affairs has since revealed that Bester only has a grade 7 education.
Nandipha also claims that she and Bester began dating in 2017, and he paid lobola for her in 2020.
In 2022, weeks after Bester's escape, Nandipha approached the Free State High Court, claiming she was Bester's 'customary wife'. The doctor had demanded to collect his 'body' after the prison fire, where he had faked his death.
Meanwhile, Nandipha married her lawful husband, Mkhuseli Magudumana – also a doctor – in 2013. The former couple shares two daughters together: Ayana and Aziza.

Ballito resident held at gunpoint in house burglary
A Ballito homeowner was held at gunpoint during an early morning home invasion on Tuesday, June 17, in what authorities describe as a brazen robbery on Minerva Road South. According to Umhlali Saps, three unidentified men, one reportedly armed with a pistol, entered the property around 3am. The robbers allegedly gained access through a sliding door that had been left open, surprising the homeowner who was working on his computer in the lounge at the time. The armed thief reportedly pointed the firearm at the homeowner and forced him to lie on the floor while the other two thieves ransacked the home. Numerous high value items were allegedly stolen. In a possible lead for investigators, a power bank believed to belong to one of the robbers was left behind at the scene. The item has been retained by police for fingerprint analysis. No injuries or property damage were reported and no shots were fired. Emergency services and police responded promptly. This incident follows a similar non-violent break-in on Marion Road North on Saturday, June 15, between 8 and 9pm. In that case, a thief entered through a side sliding door while the homeowners were on the patio, stealing a wallet and a laptop without being noticed. CCTV footage from the Marion Road incident revealed a robber wearing Adidas shoes similar to those seen in previous cases. However, police noted a different modus operandi in the two incidents. Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) chair Morné Steffens confirmed a recent rise in burglaries and attempted break-ins in the area. 'We are very fortunate here with crime usually at a minimum. It's been blissfully quiet, until now,' said Steffens. He urged residents to remain vigilant, secure all entry points and report suspicious activity immediately. Four killed in separate Cape Town mass shootings hours apart
Two mass shootings in less than 24 hours have plunged Cape Town's communities into mourning and highlighted the persistent scourge of violent crime across the region. In the first incident, gunmen shot and killed three men and injured a fourth in a targeted attack in Philippi East late Sunday night, 15 June 2025. In the second, on Monday night, 16 June 2025, shooters opened fire in Nyanga, killing one person and wounding four others. According to a SAPS media statement, the attack occurred at approximately 23:15 on 15 June at a residence on 18083 Road in the Better Life area. The victims were reportedly drinking together when unknown assailants stormed the home and opened fire. The victims, aged between 28 and 39, died at the scene as emergency services declared them dead and rushed a fourth man to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Detectives from the Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit are investigating three counts of murder and one of attempted murder. No arrests have been made, and the motive for the attack remains unclear. Just hours later, on Monday evening, 16 June 2025, another deadly shooting erupted in the Siyajlala informal settlement in Nyanga. At around 17:00 on 16 June, gunmen entered a premises allegedly searching for someone before unleashing a hail of bullets. Emergency responders found a 47-year-old man dead at the scene. They took four injured men, aged 30 to 40, to a medical facility. Police are probing a case of murder and four attempted murder charges in the Nyanga incident.
