Ashwini Vaishnaw Suspends 4 after After Dilapidated Train Sent To Pick Soldiers

New Delhi: Four railway officials have been suspended after a dilapidated train was allotted to carry Border Security Force personnel to Jammu and Kashmir for security duty during the Amarnath Yatra. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who took action after the complaint, has also ordered a probe into the matter. A new train has been arranged for the BSF personnel and the minister has directed that there should be no repeat of such an incident in future. The special train will now be run from Agartala for the BSF personnel, in which their convenience will be taken care of, the minister has said. The officers who have been suspended with immediate effect include the Officer of Coaching Depot and three senior Section Engineers of Alipurduar Division. The controversy started after a video of the earlier train, allegedly made by the jawans, was widely circulated on social media. The video showed the dilapidated condition of the structure, including doors, windows, roof and electrical equipment. There were piles of dirt and garbage in the compartments. Immediately after the video went viral, the Railways clarified that the compartments were to be sent for overhauling and were mistakenly attached to the BSF special train. After the uproar on social media, NW Frontier Railway clarified on X that the allegation that such a coach was provided to BSF for travel is wrong. It said coaches are made available for travel only after necessary maintenance, repair and cleaning. The train seen in the video was being sent for repairs and was not meant for the travel of BSF forces, the Railways said. BSF sources in Delhi said the train for Jammu was to start from Tripura's Udaipur Monday and was to ferry a whole battalion -- about 13 companies -- of troops. These soldiers are to be deployed for the Amarnath Yatra and were to reach by June 12. But now due to the change in trains, the soldiers will not be able to reach Jammu in time. Amarnath Yatra is to start from July 3.

Railways suspends four officials for sending unsuitable train to transport BSF personnel from Tripura to Jammu and Kashmir

Four railway officials were suspended after a run-down train arrived in Tripura on June 9 to transport 1,200 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from Tripura to Jammu and Kashmir, where they are to be deployed for security arrangements during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. A BSF personnel had posted several videos on social media on Tuesday (June 10, 2025), which showed the train in a precarious condition. The video showed garbage strewn around in the non-air-conditioned train, the toilets were dirty and unusable, the roof had collapsed at multiple points, the seats were worn out and cockroaches were milling around on the floor. Railway officials said another special train was being arranged for the journey of the jawans. The Railway Ministry said in a statement that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had taken serious note of the incident involving the deployment of an 'unsuitable/old train' for BSF personnel going for duty to Kashmir from Tripura. 'In response to the lapse, four officials from the Alipurduar Division have been placed under immediate suspension,' it said. The suspended officials include the Coaching Depot Officer of Alipurduar and three Senior Section Engineers of the Alipurduar Division. 'The Railway Minister has made it clear that the dignity and comfort of security forces are of the utmost priority and that such negligence will not be tolerated at any level,' it added. A special train from Agartala is now being arranged exclusively for BSF personnel, with full attention to their convenience and honour, it said. 'The Ministry of Railways has also ordered a detailed inquiry into the entire incident. All efforts are being made to ensure that such lapses do not recur in future,' the statement said. A BSF official said the train had scheduled multiple stops on its journey from Tripura to Kashmir. The jawans refused to board the train after the poor condition of the train was flagged. 'The railway authorities were informed that the BSF personnel will not be able to board the train as it was unworthy of travel. They acknowledged the mistake and agreed to send another train,' said the BSF official. The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned the deployment of more than 52,000 Central armed police force (CAPF) personnel for the Amarnath Yatra, which commences on July 3. As many as 581 companies, each comprising 90-100 personnel, will be deployed for the security of pilgrimage which concludes on August 9.

New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel heading to Amarnath Yatra duty were in for a rude shock when the train allocated to them turned out to be in a deplorable state. The train, meant to transport the team from Udaipur in Tripura to Jammu, was found to be filthy and in a dilapidated condition, sparking a political controversy. However, the Railway not only replaced the train, but also suspended four officials responsible for this, informed Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The BSF team had specifically requested a train with adequate amenities, including AC coaches and proper facilities, to ensure a comfortable journey for their personnel. Cockroaches and dirt were rampant, making the conditions unbearable for the troops. The incident quickly went viral, with a video showcasing the train's conditions sparking outrage.
