Austria to stay on Formula 1 calendar through 2041 after contract extension
Austria already had a contract through 2030, agreed two years ago, and the new extension sees it match the Miami Grand Prix as the only F1 events contracted into the 2040s.
The Austrian Grand Prix is closely connected with Red Bull's presence in F1.
The Red Bull company's co-founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, who died in 2022, funded the renovations that allowed it to return to the calendar in 2014 after an 11-year absence, and rebranded it as the Red Bull Ring.
'I am delighted that Formula 1 will remain at the Red Bull Ring for many years to come,' his son Mark Mateschitz said in a statement Sunday.
'I am proud to continue my father's legacy and to preserve the rich history of motor racing in (the region of) Styria and at the Red Bull Ring – with and, above all, for the people of the region. Austria's close ties to Formula 1 are an excellent foundation for our long-term partnership. Working together, we intend to continue this success story for many years to come.'

Other Grands Prix with more than a decade to run on their contracts are Bahrain, which agreed a deal in 2022 that is valid through 2036, and the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne has an agreement through 2037.

Akie Iwai leads CPKC Women's Open, days after first LPGA Tour victory
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (AP) — Akie Iwai was right back on top of the leaderboard in the CPKC Women's Open on Thursday, four days after her breakthrough victory in the Portland Classic. Iwai closed her afternoon round at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club with birdies on the par-4 eighth and ninth holes for a 7-under 64 and a two-stroke lead. 'Last week I won, but already it's in the past, already past,' Iwai said. Fifteen-year-old Canadian amateur Aphrodite Deng was tied for second with top-ranked Jeeno Thitikul, Leona Maguire, Gaby Lopez and 2023 winner Megan Khang. On Sunday in Oregon, Iwai joined twin sister Chisato as a rookie LPGA Tour winner. The 23-year-old Japanese player had second-place finishes in Thailand in February and Los Angeles in April, then watched her sister win at Mayakoba in May in Mexico. She's playing in Canada for first time. 'Really beautiful course,' said Akie Iwai, a six-time winner on the JLPGA Tour. 'Looks like something similar in Japan course.' Chisato Iwai bogeyed Nos. 8 and 9 to shoot 75. Deng was born in Calgary, Alberta, and her family lived in Montreal before moving to New Jersey for her father's work. She mostly lives now in Orlando, Florida, but remains a Canadian citizen and plays for Golf Canada's junior program. 'Just trying to hit each shot and play in the fairway,' Deng said. Thitikul played her first round since taking the top spot in the world from Nelly Korda. 'I think just like another day at work for me,' Thitikul said. Korda opened with a 69. Slumping Canadian star Brooke Henderson had four birdies and four bogeys in a 71. The 2018 champion won the last of her 13 LPGA Tour titles in January 2023. 'Just grateful we were able to get it back to even,' Henderson said. She played alongside Thitikul and Women's Scottish Open winner Lottie Woad, who shot 75. Simon Parker to make test debut as All Blacks make 5 changes for 2nd Argentina test
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has made five changes to his squad for the second Rugby Championship test against Argentina on Saturday, handing backrower Simon Parker his test debut. Parker's selection is the only change to the New Zealand starting XV. He comes in at No. 8 while Ardie Savea returns to his usual position on the openside flank. There weree four changes on the bench, where prop Tamaiti Williams and backrower Wallace Sititi will make their returns from injury. Lock Josh Lord and center Quinn Tupaea have been added to the reserves after injuries in the first test to Patrick Tuipulotu and Anton Lienert-Brown. Parker's immediate promotion to the starting lineup is a minor surprise. Robertson was expected to select the more experienced Sititi to start and to introduce Parker from the bench. Williams also was expected to start but Robertson has decided to allow both Sititi and Williams to make more cautious returns from injury. Robertson also will have been reasonably satisfied with the scrum performance of his starting pack in last weekend's 41-24 first test win at Cordoba. While Parker will be playing his first test, hooker Codie Taylor will make his 100th test appearance, becoming the 14th All Blacks player to reach triple figures. 'Codie is a great All Black. He carries a huge amount of mana (status) in our group and it's important we put out a performance that makes him and his whānau (family) proud in his 100th test,' Robertson said. 'The way he carries himself and the example he sets are testament to him as a person and he will front this week in the same way he has for the past 99 tests.' Parker has made an impression in Super Rugby this season as a big man who still possesses pace and skill. Mark Schiefelbein AP Carney has been peppered with attacks from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre about his handling of the trade crisis, with Poilievre, fresh off a Monday byelection win, slamming the prime minister on Wednesday for his campaign assurances that he was the leader best positioned to wrangle a win out of Trump. 'Mr. Carney, in spite of his great promises of being able to manage Trump, is losing tariff wars with China, with the U.S. and has made no progress in opening other markets abroad,' Poilievre said at a news conference in Surrey, B.C. Yet Carney received support from another staunch conservative on Thursday, with Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe urging a collaborative approach as Canada fends off trade pressures from not only the U.S., but also China's latest targeting of Canadian canola. 'We do need to work together. And this would be new, for this media gallery to have me standing in front of them saying that I am hoping for every success for a Liberal prime minister in this conversation,' Moe told reporters in Saskatoon. The Saskatchewan premier had just convened a meeting with his own front bench, federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald and his parliamentary secretary Kody Blois, and a range of industry groups and exporters. Last week, China slapped a preliminary duty of 75.8 per cent on Canadian canola seed, after Beijing initiated an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian canola last year following the federal government's decision to impose 100 per cent tariffs on imports of Chinese electric vehicles. Earlier this year, China imposed a 100-per-cent tariff on Canadian canola oil and canola meal. The Canola Council of Canada, which attended Thursday's meeting, says the combination of those actions means the Chinese market is now 'effectively closed' to the Canadian canola industry. Moe said Canada's primary goal is to 'protect the market share and the market access that we have into those significant markets, namely the United States of America, of which we are experiencing much uncertainty on a number of fronts, including agriculture products, as well as China, where we have seen first retaliatory tariffs on oil and meal … and more recently, the allegations of anti-dumping.' Moe, who is preparing to visit China in the coming weeks, said it is up to Carney and Chinese President Xi Jinping to resolve the dispute. Blois, speaking alongside the Saskatchewan premier, said Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is also focusing on identifying other markets for Canadian canola. 'We're cognizant of the importance of the market, and at the same time, I think recognizing that we are in a different world,' Blois said. Anand spent Thursday in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, though the minister's office said the duo did not discuss Canada-U.S. trade because those matters fall under the purview of her cabinet colleague Dominic LeBlanc. A readout from Rubio's office said he and his Canadian counterpart discussed Haiti's security, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Russia-Ukraine war, and 'mechanisms to strengthen our hemisphere's response to China's coercive activity.'
