MMRDA to give Godrej dedicated Metro access to its Vikhroli complex
MUMBAI: Godrej Enterprises, which has a large campus at Vikhroli East, has asked MMRDA to give it a dedicated access point from the Metro 4 railway which is expected to be completed by 2026. The company wants connectivity to this commercial campus near its hillside residential colony.
Metro 4 connects Wadala with Kasarvadavali, and Metro 4A will further connect Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh. Metro 4 is almost 80 per cent complete and passes via Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg where the commercial-residential complex is. The complex also has its own dedicated subway which passes under the Central Railway corridor.
'The proposal of dedicated ingress and egress from the station on Metro Line 4 into the Godrej campus will significantly enhance daily connectivity for thousands of our workforce and enable smoother access for over 15 national and multinational companies operating within the campus,' said a Godrej Enterprise spokesperson.
Godrej Enterprise sources said that MMRDA's policy on direct metro station connectivity to adjoining properties along the alignment would facilitate the adoption of technically feasible and sustainable urban planning solutions. 'The Metro integration policy of MMRDA is a great initiative and will help multiple companies, retail malls, and commercial districts along the metro alignment to thrive with ease in connectivity and commute,' said a source. 'This policy promotes sustainable urban growth by encouraging the use of public transport and reducing urban sprawl.'
MMRDA commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said that the conceptual plan had been approved subject to a deposition of ₹10 crore and 6% supervision charges. Mukherjee said the charges had not yet been deposited and the detailed design and drawings not yet submitted for MMRDA's approval.
Last year, Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in BKC had demanded direct connectivity from Metro 2B to its complex. The Metro 2B will run from D N Nagar and Mandale (off the Sion-Panvel road) when it is inaugurated.
MMRDA had accepted the demand. With this, the bourse will be connected to the bullet train terminal at BKC, as Metro 2B and the bullet train terminal are also connected. However, BDB vice-president Mehul Shah said that MMRDA had asked for ₹10 crore for this, which they wanted waived.
Spread over a 20-acre plot, BDB is home to around 2,500 small and large diamond traders' offices. Mantralaya and Vidhan Bhavan complex will also get exclusive access from the Metro 3 line connecting SEEPZ and Aarey.

In 2018, MahaMetro prepared the CMP and carried the idea forward, proposing 84 stations — again 9 main and 75 sub-stations — strategically placed near Metro stations and key bus terminals, with an estimated cost of Rs12 crore. Now, CMP 2025 revisits the plan on a larger scale, with a Rs24 crore budget and 120 proposed locations citywide. Despite these plans, the city saw little on-ground change. Independent efforts, including the bike-sharing partnership between MahaMetro and private operator VIPL, also failed to make an impact. A senior official told TOI, "Whenever we look at successful PBS models globally, one key element stands out — dedicated Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) infrastructure. This includes separate cycling lanes, wide footpaths, and safe, encroachment-free pedestrian zones. These are the foundations we're prioritising in the new plan. " He also outlined the adoption of the 'Hub & Spoke' model in the latest blueprint. "In this model, we ensure major docking stations are supported by sub-stations within a 2–3 km radius. For example, someone exiting a Metro station can pick up a cycle there and drop it near their home, where a sub-docking station will be available. From there, a clean, walkable footpath will lead them home. The goal is to make the system seamless and city-wide, not clustered in pockets," he explained. While the intent remains strong and the vision ambitious, the on-ground reality has not kept pace. For Nagpur's PBS scheme to succeed, it will need more than allocated budgets — it will require consistent execution, public awareness, behavioural shifts, and infrastructure that supports non-motorised mobility. With CMP 2025 laying renewed focus on integrated planning and last-mile connectivity, stakeholders remain hopeful. The question now is whether Nagpur can finally move from planning to pedalling.

CM Revanth Reddy envisions State as a $3 trillion economy by 2047
Reiterating his government's commitment towards the development of the State, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the 'Telangana Rising 2047' policy document had been drafted to position the State as a global leader by the time India marks 100 years of Independence in 2047, and urged for the public support in this endeavor. As part of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations on Monday (June 2, 2025), Mr. Reddy hoisted the national flag at Parade Ground and spoke about the welfare measures and development initiatives taken under his regime. Kazuhisa Takeuchi, mayor of Kitakyushu City from Japan, was a guest at the celebrations. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the government aimed to contribute significantly to the national goal of becoming a $30 trillion economy by turning Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. On investments from both the domestic and foreign firms, Mr. Reddy said that the government had signed agreements worth over ₹3 lakh crore since he assumed the office. Regarding the development of Hyderabad, he said plans were in place to develop Hyderabad on par with major international cities. 'The Bharat Future City would be developed on 30,000 acres,' he said. Stating that the Outer Ring Road (ORR) had contributed immensely to Hyderabad's rapid development, he said that a Regional Ring Road (RRR) is underway, along with plans for radial roads connecting to the ORR. He said expansion of both the Metro and Regional Rail systems would commence soon. The Chief Minister said that airports at Warangal and Mamnoor would be developed soon, as the Centre had given its approval for the renovation. Stressing the government's commitment to social justice, the Chief Minister said that the Scheduled Castes in the State had been classified into three groups, and legal backing was provided for the same. 'February 4 would be observed annually as Telangana Social Justice Day,' he said adding that caste census conducted in the State had become a model for the nation. On youth employment, Mr. Reddy stated that over 60,000 government job vacancies were filled within 16 months of assuming the office. Reaffirming the government's support for farmers, he said that agricultural loans up to ₹2 lakh were waived. The government had also enacted the Bhu Bharati-2025 Act to resolve land disputes and ensure clear land ownership records. Referring to the state of affairs when he took charge in December 2023, the Chief Minister said Telangana's economy was in disarray. On the occasion, Mr. Reddy presented cash awards of ₹1 crore each to nine eminent personalities from the State for their contributions to the Telangana movement. Among the recipients were noted poets and cultural figures Ande Sri (poet), Suddala Ashok Teja (lyricist), Jayaraj (poet), Pasham Yadagiri (senior journalist), and Ekka Yadagiri Rao (sculptor). The awards were also presented posthumously to revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, poet-singer Guda Anjaiah, and Bandi Yadagiri. Noted poet and singer Goreti Venkanna, currently on a foreign tour, was represented by his daughter at the ceremony. Mr. Reddy also conferred the Kaloji Award on polyglot and poet Nalimela Bhaskar for his contributions to literature. In addition to the honours for cultural contributions, the Chief Minister presented the Medal for Gallantry to 19 police officers in recognition of their distinguished service. Another 11 officers received the Medal for Meritorious Service.
