Meet senior IPS officer Sonali Mishra, who is set to become the first woman to head RPF
Sonali Mishra
has been named as the first woman director general of the
Railway Protection Force
(RPF), officials on Saturday said.
She is a 1993 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Mishra's appointment as DG, RPF, until her superannuation on October 31, 2026, said an order issued by the Personnel Ministry.

She will take charge of the post from incumbent Manoj Yadava, who is due to superannuate on July 31.
Mishra will be the first woman officer to head the RPF, which is entrusted with the responsibility of security of railway property and passengers, among other duties, the officials said.

The RPF was constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1957 for providing security to railway property.
Subsequently, the force was empowered to enquire, arrest and prosecute the offenders involved in unlawful possession of railway property in 1966.
It was given the status of "an armed force of the Union" on September 20, 1985.
Mishra has served in key roles during her distinguished career.
She was in July 2021 appointed as the first woman commander to head the Border Security Force's (BSF) formation along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab.
Mishra has led the force's formation in the Kashmir valley as the inspector general (IG) besides heading the BSF's intelligence wing.
She also worked as the ADG in the BSF.
Mishra is a recipient of PPMDS (President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service) and PMMS (Police Medal for Meritorious Service).

Man found dead in Metro tunnel
1 2 Kolkata: A man was found dead on the tracks inside the North-South Metro tunnel between Park Street and Esplanade stations early on Friday. The man, aged between 30 and 35 years, remains unidentified. Man Posing As Cop, Claiming To Be Raja Raghuvanshis Friend, Arrested
Police have arrested a man for allegedly posing as Raja Raghuvanshi's friend and visiting his home in Indore while impersonating a railway police officer, according to a report. The accused, identified as Bajrang Lal, a resident of Rajasthan, visited Raghuvanshi's house on Thursday. He introduced himself as a police station in-charge from Delhi and claimed to be a close friend of Raja, as per the HT report. Raja Raghuvanshi was reportedly killed in May during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, with investigators alleging that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, hired contract killers to carry out the murder. At the time of the incident, Lal was dressed in a uniform with three stars, an RPF badge, and ordinary red shoes. His appearance and behavior raised doubts, prompting Raja's mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, to inform her other son, Sachin. When questioned, the accused repeatedly changed his statements and even attempted to leave, as per the HT report. Lal claimed he had met Raja at Ujjain's Mahakal temple in 2021, but the family refuted this, saying Raja had not traveled during the COVID pandemic. Officials believe Lal's intention was to dupe the family. According to an Indian Express report, the Police said that preliminary inquiries indicate that the accused has a pattern of impersonating police officers. Investigators suspect he had studied details of the murder case in advance and was attempting to dupe the family. The accused has now been arrested, and authorities are examining his past criminal record. Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Raja Raghuvanshi, who married Sonam on May 11, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The murder was allegedly orchestrated by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was reportedly in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha. Investigators allege that she conspired to eliminate Raja even before their marriage. As part of the plan, three men were hired to execute the crime. After a few unsuccessful attempts, the attackers finally killed Raja on May 23. His mutilated body was found in a deep gorge in the Sohra area of Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on June 2. CBI, Delhi Police officers receive medals for distinguished and meritorious service on Independence Day
New Delhi: On the eve of Independence Day, 30 officers, 15 each from CBI and Delhi Police, were awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
