Ahmad Zahid: Smallholders continue to receive monsoon season assistance this year
He said RM264.91 million has been allocated for the initiative, which is expected to benefit more than 330,000 recipients nationwide, including those under the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and the Sabah Rubber Industry Authority (LIGS).
"This assistance aligns with the Madani Government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of rural communities. BMT is not just a one-off financial assistance, but a lifeline and a source of livelihood when the rainy season threatens harvest and income.
"This is the true face of the Madani Government that cares for smallholders who are the pulse of the country's industry," he said when speaking at the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) People's Tuition Programme: Excellent Student Appreciation Ceremony here today.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang, Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Risda chairman Manndzri Nasib.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said that the volatility of commodity prices and yearly weather uncertainties continue to exert financial pressure on smallholders, affecting both their yields and incomes.
Therefore, he said, initiatives such as BMT are an important form of intervention in rural development policy, which not only functions as economic support but also as recognition of the hard work of smallholders. — BERNAMA

i-Mesra platform supports halal certification, says deputy minister
KUALA LUMPUR: The i-Mesra digital platform, designed as a pre-halal reference for entrepreneurs under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW), does not conflict with the Malaysian Halal Certification issued by JAKIM, said Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang. She explained that the platform serves as a facilitator, integrating JAKIM's guidelines to align with federal halal certification procedures. 'The i-Mesra system incorporates JAKIM's requirements, ensuring most KKDW products meet halal certification standards,' she told reporters after launching i-Mesra at the 2025 Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D 2025). When asked about Selangor's rejection of i-Mesra, Rubiah stated that KKDW respects the decision but remains open to discussions. 'Selangor's preference for an alternative system is not an issue. Our priority is providing entrepreneurs with a tool to speed up halal certification,' she added. KKDW adopted i-Mesra after its introduction by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, finding it user-friendly for entrepreneurs. Last week, reports indicated Selangor refused i-Mesra as a halal verification platform, citing better alternatives. Earlier, Rubiah witnessed a cooperation agreement between Ketengah and Koperasi Peserta-Peserta Felcra Malaysia Berhad. She also received a Malaysia Book of Records certificate for MK3D 2025 as the Largest Entrepreneurship Fair. MK3D 2025 combines three major entrepreneurship programmes, featuring over 1,000 entrepreneurs and 882 booths nationwide. - Bernama

Malaysia reaffirms unwavering support for Palestine amid UN declaration
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's position on Palestine remains firm, with the government continuing to support Palestine's right to independence and sovereignty, said MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, the Communications Minister confirmed that Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan had briefed the Cabinet on the Palestinian issue following a recent United Nations (UN) high-level conference. The meeting, coordinated by Saudi Arabia and France, saw 17 countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UK, France, and Canada, sign a declaration urging Hamas to disarm and transfer governance of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority. 'Our Permanent Representative to the UN was asked to review and sign the joint declaration, but the government decided more time is needed to study it,' Fahmi stated. 'Malaysia's stance on Palestine has not changed. Palestine has the right to exist as a state. We are not considering any other matters beyond that.' The UN declaration condemned Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and demanded the immediate release of remaining hostages. It also called for Hamas to surrender its weapons as part of a two-state solution framework. Fahmi added that Wisma Putra is reviewing the declaration in full, and the Foreign Minister will deliver a Ministerial Statement in Parliament next week. 'This will likely happen between Monday and Wednesday. The minister will provide further details, but the government's position remains unchanged,' he emphasised. - Bernama

DPM Zahid hails Smart's three decades of service
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has praised the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) for its outstanding service over the past 30 years, noting its role in enhancing Malaysia's reputation on the global stage. He said Smart has contributed to the safety of people in Malaysia and overseas through its participation in search and rescue operations as well as humanitarian missions. "From post-earthquake rescue missions in Türkiye and Nepal, to humanitarian operations during the tsunami tragedy in Aceh, and involvement in major flood relief work in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan — Smart has always stood at the nation's frontlines in the most critical moments," he said. Zahid, who is also the National Disaster Management Committee chairman, said this in a Facebook post in conjunction with Smart's 30th anniversary celebration today. He said Smart's achievements are even more commendable as it became the first team in Southeast Asia to attain the "Heavy" classification for urban search and rescue (USAR) operations from the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), thereby strengthening Malaysia's standing in the international rescue network. He said Smart has earned the trust of Russia to serve as a mentor to its search and rescue team, RUS-03, in preparation for INSARAG evaluation. "I am impressed by the team's dedication, discipline and continuous adaptation of advanced technology. "Smart is now more than just an elite team; it is an institution that is recognised and respected. "May the Smart team continue to progress, remain ever ready to face future challenges and uphold its steadfast presence at the frontlines of any disaster. "Thank you, and congratulations on three decades of excellence for the people and the nation," he said. — BERNAMA
