Odisha Surpasses Kerala In School Rankings, Naveen Patnaik Credits 5T Initiative
In a post on X, former CM Naveen Patnaik shared, "Glad to share that Odisha has earned 5th rank nationally in School Grading System, as per Performance Grading Index (PGI-2.0) Report released by Government of India. Odisha has achieved score of 595.6 and secured PRACHESTA-3 grade for the academic year 2023-24, up from 14th in 2019. The PGI 2.0 evaluates school education through 73 indicators across two categories: Outcomes and Governance & Management."
"Under our #5T initiative, we transformed about 7000 schools to unleash new aspirations and open new horizons for school students. We always believed that #NewOdisha will be built by empowering every child with the power of education. Glad that the robust foundation for government school education helping students excel. In a post on Instagram, the former aide of Naveen Patnaik, VK Pandian, shared that Odisha was above Kerala in education rankings under the performance governance initiative.
V K Pandian said, "When 5T targets were being set up across sectors in 2019 , Honble CM Naveen Patnaikji @naveen_odisha had stated that a credible 5T target in school education would be for Odisha to cross Kerala . It sounded impossible at that time. But we could achieve this transformation milestone."
"The Performance Grading Index ( PGI ) of the Government of India which assesses school education across 73 indicators, has placed Odisha at No. 5 among all the states in 2023-24, higher than Kerala. This achievement is stupendous, especially as Odisha was in the bottom category of states previously," he said.
He congratulated the entire team for moving up in the school education ranking from 24 to 5.
"Congratulations to the entire team who made this happen in a record time . It was not an easy task to go from being 24 in all India ranking to number 5. The hard work and dedication that has gone in from all quarters has made this possible. Thanking the students , parents, community leaders, PRIs, people's representatives, SMCs and government officials who made this transformative target under 5T come true," he further shared.

Bhubaneswar: The BJD supremo, Naveen Patnaik, expressed concern over the Odisha government's decision to cancel the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project initiated during his tenure, saying the move will push the city 10 years back in terms of urban mobility and development. Patnaik's reaction came hours after it was reported that the State's BJP government had scrapped the Metro rail project contract with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Taking to social media on Saturday, Patnaik said, 'Shocked to know that Bhubaneswar Metro Rail contracts have been cancelled by BJP led #Odisha Govt. It has always been our dream to develop #Bhubaneswar into a world-class city. We have been focusing on world-class sports infrastructure, organising marquee international events, providing seamless modern transport and developing IT ecosystem to transform the temple city into a world-class city.' Stating that the project would have reshaped the way the State capital moves with Mo Bus and other last-mile connectivity, complementing the city transport, Patnaik said apart from alleviating congestion inside the city significantly, it would have been a huge catalyst for the expansion of the city. 'Realising the urgent need of a Metro System for enhanced mobility, we had set a watertight timeline of 2027 for Phase 1 of the project,' Patnaik said. The former chief minister said it has now been learned from the notice by DMRC to contractors that Odisha government has scrapped the Bhubaneswar Metro project. 'The double-engine government has betrayed the people of Odisha by cancelling an important project like Metro Rail. The shocking decision will push the city 10 years back,' he said. Odisha's Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, however, said the State government is earnestly planning a feasible Metro project for the State capital. He said the previous BJD government did not seek Central assistance as it had planned a fully State-funded Rs 5,000-crore project connecting Biju Patnaik International Airport with Trisulia Square. The minister said the BJP government wanted to execute the project in a joint venture with the Centre's help. 'We will have the Metro rail project differently from the past government's plan, which was not feasible. A new DRP will be prepared and sent to the Centre for approval,' the minister said.

Centre to launch job incentive scheme on August 1, targets 3.5 crore jobs
The Government of India is set to roll out a new employment-linked incentive scheme, named the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY), from August 1, 2025. The Labour Ministry confirmed the launch of the scheme in an official statement on Friday. This move aims to boost employment opportunities in the country by directly supporting new job creation across multiple scheme was earlier approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With an ambitious goal of creating over 3.5 crore jobs in two years, the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana has a financial outlay of Rs 99,446 crore. Out of the total, around 1.92 crore beneficiaries will be entering the workforce for the first time. The benefits of this scheme will apply to jobs generated between August 1, 2025, and July 31, scheme reflects the government's commitment to inclusive and sustainable employment generation under the broader Viksit Bharat initiative. By encouraging employers to hire more staff and offering benefits to first-time workers, the scheme plays a crucial role in India's strategy to drive economic growth through employment-led scheme has two components. Part A is designed for first-time employees, while Part B is for employers. Under Part A, employees who are new to the workforce and registered with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will receive one month's EPF wage, up to Rs 15,000, in two separate instalments. To qualify, their monthly salary must not exceed Rs 1 lakh. The first instalment will be paid after six months of continuous service, and the second after completing one year of service along with a financial literacy programme. A portion of this incentive will be saved in a deposit account to encourage savings, which the employee can withdraw A will apply to jobs created across all sectors, with special emphasis on Part B of the scheme, employers will be incentivised for each additional employee they hire with a monthly salary of up to Rs 1 lakh. The government will provide up to Rs 3,000 per month per employee for two years. For the manufacturing sector, this support will extend to the third and fourth years as be eligible, EPFO-registered establishments must hire at least two additional employees (if they currently have fewer than 50 employees) or five additional employees (if they have 50 or more) and retain them for a minimum of six under Part A will be made directly to the employees via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode using the Aadhar Bridge Payment System (ABPS). ‘Not viable': Bhubaneswar metro project hangs in balance as Odisha govt cancels tender
Uncertainty looms over the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project after the Odisha government has cancelled the tender for the ambitious urban mobility project initiated by the erstwhile Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government. Odisha's Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra said the decision to cancel the tender was taken in view of delay in implementation and to avoid cost escalation. 'The metro project initiated by the previous government wouldn't have been viable. Our government has formed an inter-minister committee to take a fresh look into the project by studying different aspects, its viability and to submit a fresh proposal before the project,' said the urban development minister. Mohapatra said the state government would take up the project in consultation with the Centre unlike the BJD government that had decided to take it on its own. Former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone of the project on January 1, 2024, months before the simultaneous polls. It was estimated to spend a whopping Rs 6,300 crore to develop the first phase of the project with a length of 26 km from Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia near Orissa high court in Cuttack with 20 stations and to extend it to Puri, Khurda and Cuttack subsequently. It was decided to develop the metro rail track and stations on elevated viaduct. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was roped in by the Odisha government to implement the project that floated the tender and engaged different agencies to take up the project. Though ground work for the metro project was started, it hit hurdles after the BJP assumed power in Odisha on June 24. Taking a dig at the BJP government over cancellation of the metro project as he said the double-engine government has 'betrayed' the people of Odisha and the decision will push Bhubaneswar 10 years back. 'It has always been our dream to develop #Bhubaneswar into a world-class city. We have been focusing on world class sports infrastructure, organising marquee international events, providing seamless modern transport and developing the IT ecosystem to transform the temple city into a world class city,' wrote Patnaik on X. Patnaik, in his post, wrote that the Bhubaneswar metro project would have reshaped the way city moves with #MoBus and other last mile connectivity complementing the city transport.
