Granite Harbour set to return for a third series as the BBC drama heads back to Aberdeen

BBC News18-03-2025
The BBC has announced the return of Granite Harbour for a third series. Made by LA Productions, it will once again bring together acting talents Romario Simpson (Django, Riches, Small Axe) and Hannah Donaldson (Crime, Payback, The Crown) as crime duo Lindo and Bart for the Aberdeen-set drama.
The new three-part series, which will film in Aberdeenshire and Glasgow later this year, is a co-commission between BBC iPlayer, BBC Scotland and BBC One. It will be written by Rob Fraser (Tell Me Everything, Tin Star), Ciara Conway (Whistable Pearl, Holby City) and Writers Guild of Great Britain award-winner Jillian Mannion (River City, Death in Paradise).
The third series sees Sgt Davis Lindo (Romario Simpson) and DCI Lara 'Bart' Bartlett (Hannah Donaldson) investigate a suspicious death in the travelling community at an estate on the outskirts of Aberdeen. As the investigation gets underway, Lindo and Bart must navigate a complicated cross-community romance which uncovers a complex past.
Gavin Smith, Executive Producer, BBC Scotland says: 'We are delighted to be bringing Davis and Bart back in what I'm sure will be their toughest test yet. This Aberdeen set detective drama has attracted new audiences to the BBC and beyond and we look forward to the sparkling granite of the city shining on screen once more.'
Colin McKeown, LA Productions says: 'It's an absolute pleasure to be asked by the BBC to produce a further series of Granite Harbour, to build on the character development we've created so far with our stellar cast. Scotland, and in particular, Aberdeen is a real gem and a place that we, as filmmakers, have really come to love. Our desire is to carry on our journey with our audience and let them share and enjoy what series three of Granite Harbour has to offer.'
Granite Harbour (3x60) was commissioned by Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning, BBC Scotland and Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama. The executive producers are Gavin Smith for BBC Scotland, Gaynor Holmes for BBC One and Colin McKeown for LA Productions with Donna Molloy (Compulsion, Anthony) producing the third series. Granite Harbour is made by LA Productions for the BBC and BBC Scotland and supported by Screen Scotland.
Granite Harbour joins a growing list of hit BBC series from Scotland, including Shetland, Vigil, Nightsleeper and Rebus as well as forthcoming dramas Half Man, Lockerbie and The Ridge.

Strictly fans disappointed as star pulls out of main role ahead of series launch

Strictly Come Dancing fans have reacted to the news that long-running professional dancer Gorka Márquez won't have a celebrity partner when the show returns this year Fans of Strictly Come Dancing have shared their disappointment over an announcement ahead of the new series. Some have said that the show "won't be the same" after one of the pros confirmed that they won't be competing. The BBC show is just weeks away from returning, with viewers awaiting the line-up of celebrities ahead of the launch. While no contestants have been confirmed yet, earlier this year, the broadcaster announced which pros will be back on the dance floor when the show returns. It was revealed that they will include Gorka Márquez, 34. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, there will be a host of other returning pros alongside him including Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Karen Hauer, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington, Carlos Gu and Vito Coppola. It comes after reports of all the celebrities rumoured to be joining BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2025. At the time, it was also announced that two new dancers will be making their debut in the series. The newcomers have since been unveiled as So You Think You Can Dance champion Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon, who worked on Dancing with the Stars in Australia. There's thought to be more pros than contestants and it's yet to be revealed which of the dancers will be paired with celebrity partners this year. Long-running pro Gorka, 34, has however confirmed that he won't be one of them this time. Amid the second week of rehearsals, Gorka announced earlier this week that he will return as a judge to the Spanish version of Strictly, Bailando con las estrellas, for a second series. He first appeared on the judging panel last year. On Wednesday, he told his followers on Instagram: "I am Happy to announce that I will be back for season two of BAILANDO CON LAS ESTRELLAS as a judge from September." He added that it means he won't have a partner on Strictly though. Gorka said: "Due to the filming dates this means that I won't be competing with a partner this year in Strictly but I will be a part of lots of the group numbers and will be back for final weeks of the Show to support the rest of my fellow pros and their celebrities in what is going to be an AMAZING SERIES. As always thank you for all the love and support and remember! Keep dancing!" His fiancée Gemma Atkinson responded: "Vamos! Very proud." A number of his Strictly co-stars also showed their support. Some fans expressed their disappointment that he won't be competing though, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. One reacted: "Noooooo! Strictly won't be the same without you! I hope you enjoy every minute of it!" Another commented: "Gutted wanted you to win." A third wrote: "Gutted, always love to see u with a partner but least we will still see u in the group numbers." Someone replied to the announcement: "Congratulations and very well deserved too. It won't be the same without you on Strictly." Whilst another fan said: "Super happy for you @gorka_marquez but I will miss you on Strictly." Sharing their thoughts, another said: "Strictly won't be the same without you @gorka_marquez! We needed you to lift that glitter ball as you nearly did so many times." One fan wrote: "It seems that lots of people feel like I do. Good for you!! And a little sad for us!" Whilst another viewer reacted to the news: "It won't be the same without you but so excited for your judging role again! Congratulations!! And I'm looking forward to the group numbers."

MasterChef loses nearly 1 million viewers as Gregg Wallace and John Torode return

BBC One's MasterChef lost nearly one million viewers during its return last night, marking the final series with hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode following their recent sacking MasterChef has lost almost one million viewers as fans snubbed the BBC One programme after the firing of John Torode and Gregg Wallace. The show's latest series premiered on BBC One last night, marking the last with Torode and Wallace after their recent misconduct scandal. Torode's contract was not renewed by production company Banijay UK after it was alleged that he used racist language, whilst his co-star Gregg was fired from the programme after 41 of the 83 complaints against him were upheld by an investigation into his conduct. Despite the scandal, the BBC aired its 21st series, which was filmed before Torode and Wallace were let go from the programme. It has now been revealed that just under two million people watched the show's premiere on Wednesday, according to BBC News. This means that the show has lost almost a million viewers since last year, after last year's premiere brought in 2.7 million viewers. It comes after reports Gregg Wallace is trying to 'earn a living' after MasterChef exit amid 'battle every day'. Wednesday saw the show return but with major changes as last minute edits were made to the series in light of the scandal. Both presenters appeared in the introduction shots of the first episode, however their screen time was massively reduced compared to the previous series. BBC bosses have begun to airbrush them out of MasterChef - removing any promotional pictures of them and reducing their screen time. Neither presenter is mentioned in the descriptions for the three available episodes. Those who did tune in took to X to say that they were switching off as they made the same complaint about the programme. One viewer wrote on X: "I shall tune in to this for 10 or 15 minutes just to see how it has been re-cut to remove its presenters," before adding just minutes later: "Well I've switched it off. The @BBC has made no attempt to remove them from the show." A second said: "We have also switched off Master chef. I can't bear to watch. Of course they could have edited the presenters out and had some sort of voice over." Earlier today, a PR specialist revealed that Torode has "one chance" to save his career after the scandal. Kayley Cornelius told The Mirror: "Should he take accountability for his actions, apologise to those he's upset or disappointed, and demonstrate clear growth since the time of the incident, I do believe, based on current online sentiment, that he has a chance to win back some public support."
