Notting Hill Carnival issues major route changes ahead of bank holiday celebrations
Carnival has been ongoing for decades, but this year the organisers have made a few changes set to ensure everyone is safe and can enjoy their day, we've put together everything you need to know from updates to schedule. One of the world's biggest street parties, Notting Hill Carnival is quickly approaching, attracting more than two million revellers to the streets of West London for the August Bank Holiday. The carnival is a celebration of community, unity, Caribbean culture and history but this year comes with big changes. From giant digital screens and new support crews to subtle route tweaks, Notting Hill Carnival organisers have taken to Instagram to show they introduced fresh measures to keep the two-day party safe, smooth, and unforgettable. Here's everything you need to know before you hit the road. It comes as The Mirror's Darren Lewis advised people not to let let killjoys stop Notting Hill Carnival after cops called it a 'war zone'. Route changes and stewards Many carnival goers are used to sticking to the same route or even following a float, but this year the organisers are introducing new routes and might even send you on a detour - but don't stress, it's all in good faith. Stewards will be guiding the crowds along alternative paths to ensure everything moves safely and comfortably, and while many don't like change - you may discover a hidden gem along the way. Digital screens with updates For the first time in Notting Hill history, stationary digital screens will be dotted along the route sharing safety tips, key updates and announcements ensuring everyone is in the loop and well informed while they celebrate. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. New teams on the ground Extra support crews will be stationed across the streets to answer questions, give directions, and help keep the event stress-free for everyone involved. Moment of reflection At 3pm on both main days, Carnival will pause for a 72-second silence in memory of the 72 lives lost in the Grenfell Tower fire. The moment will also honour Takayo Nembhard and Cher Maximen, who were tragically killed at Carnival, as well as Kelso Cochrane, whose racially motivated murder in 1959 was the drive for the event and the pioneers who built its foundation. From the children parade, to the steel bands competition each carnival day is set will bring something different continuing the long standing Caribbean celebration. But beyond the new announcements, we've put together the official carnival schedule to ensure you don't a single part. Weekend Schedule Saturday 23 August - Panorama Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park, W10 3DH, 16:00–23:00 Carnival celebrations kick off on Saturday with the UK National Panorama Steel Band Competition - now including a junior category for the first time. Diana Ross, 81, sparks health fears as she's forced to pull out of cruise ship performance
has sparked concerns for her health as she is forced to pull out of her upcoming performance for Royal Caribbean's Star of the Sea's showcase cruise. The 81-year-old Baby Love songstress - who recently opened up the Henley Festival last month - was slated to kick off the three-day journey on August 20 after being named 'godmother' of the massive ship. However, the star's representative said in a statement to People on Tuesday, 'Due to unforeseen circumstances, Diana Ross will be unable to appear'. An exact reason for the sudden absence was not given, but Diana is still set to begin her Beautiful Love tour in the U.S. on August 16. A spokesperson for the cruise line issued a statement as well and expressed, 'We are disappointed that Diana Ross is unable to join us to be godmother of Star of the Seas.' They continued that there are plans to announce a 'new godmother' of the ship 'soon'. A few months earlier in June, Royal Caribbean announced that the singer had been named godmother of the Icon Class ship. She had been set to to take to the stage to celebrate the new cruise that will embark from Port Canaveral in Orlando, Florida and head to Perfect Day at CocoBay in the Bahamas. To commemorate the debut of the latest Royal Caribbean ship, Diana would have also taken part in a special naming ceremony with guests. 'I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,' the Wiz actress expressed in a press release at the time, per PR Newswire. 'Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas'. The president and CEO of the cruise line, Michael Bayley, had also stated that the company was 'thrilled' to have the iconic singer ring in the debut of the Star of the Seas ship. 'We couldn't imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together...' While Diana will no longer take part in the showcase cruise, she is still set to begin her U.S. tour later this month on August 16 in Saratoga, California. The star - who is also known for being a member of The Supremes - will make stops in other cities such as Atlantic City, St. Louis, Newark and Lincoln. The Beautiful Love tour will officially conclude later this year in Palm Springs on December 13. Over the past weekend on Sunday, she shared the U.S. dates to her fans on Instagram and penned, 'It's good to be back home. 'The Beautiful Love Tour is coming to cities across the U.S. for unforgettable nights filled with music, memories, and joy'. The I'm Coming Out hitmaker added, 'The tour starts a week from today, on August 16th, at the @mountainwinery in Saratoga, CA. Come join the love celebration.' During a recent interview with People in June, Diana opened up about her family life and how she has been prioritizing her health. When asked what she has been 'up to these days,' the performer replied, 'Health and well-being'. Diana continued, 'And my family is equally everything to me. I like staying busy. Because I love what I do, it keeps me grounded. I'm swimming a lot lately to stay flexible. 'I must get my sleep which is important to me. I do my best to eat well, but I do like Häagen-Dazs ice cream'. In regards to aging and feeling good in her 80s, the star expressed, 'The love of what I do keeps me grounded, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. When you can't find the sunshine be the sunshine...' Diana then added, 'I have been very blessed in my life. I love what I do. I love my family. I love my life. I'm a happy person'. The singer also revealed that she had asked her family to join her on the Royal Caribbean cruise before she pulled out of her performance. She is notably the mother of five children - including Evan Ross who is married to Ashlee Simpson - and the grandmother of eight. Diana gained recognition as a former member of The Supremes - one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. Over the years, especially throughout the 60s, they dropped a number of hit tracks such as You Can't Hurry Love and Where Did Our Love Go. In 1970, she left the group to launch her own successful solo career in the music industry and would go on to release hits including Endless Love, Ain't No Mountain High Enough and Chain Reaction. Diana has garnered 13 Grammy nominations and received the Lifetime Achievement Award twice - once for herself in 2012 and then later in 2023 as a member of The Supremes.

Chris Hughes packs on the PDA with girlfriend JoJo Siwa he shares loved-up snaps after enjoying a luxury cruise with her family
Chris Hughes packed on the PDA with girlfriend JoJo Siwa in loved-up snaps as he enjoyed a luxury cruise with her family through the Caribbean. The couple - who met during a stint on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year - spent four lavish days on the Royal Caribbean Star Of The Seas ship, which set sail from Puerto Rico to Florida. It's the largest cruise ship in the world, and it arrived at Port Canaveral, Florida on Saturday for the first time. Sharing some behind-the-scenes on social media, former Love Island star Chris, 32, and American singer JoJo, 22, looked incredibly happy as they posed for snaps together. One photo saw the lovebirds gazing at one another as they enjoyed a trip to a picturesque island. They were in good spirits as they stood in front of the all singing, all dancing cruise ship - which sets guests back about £901 per person for an inside cabin, to over £4,419 per person for a suite. Chris tagged her dad Tom and mum Jessalynn, as well as her older brother Jayden. Jessalynn confirmed the group enjoyed four days on the ship, writing on Instagram: 'My mom heart is completely full. The absolute best four days on the most beautiful cruise ship with my favorite people in the world. @royalcaribbean #royalpartner.' Meanwhile, JoJo hasn't shared a thing on her social media, as she is currently promoting her new single Raspy instead. Her posts were wiped in place for her new album artwork, which she described as a 'diss track' to herself or the world. Chris recently revealed he turned his relationship with JoJo from friendship into romance by putting his feelings down on paper. The pair became instant friends on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year and began dating after the final. Chris told how he went to the US to surprise JoJo for her birthday and wrote down his feelings on a piece of paper in a hotel bar in order to tell her how he really felt. In a black-and-white photo, Chris and JoJo posed together for a family snap, sharing that they had company on the trip They were in good spirits as they stood in front of the all singing, all dancing cruise ship - which sets guests back about £901 per person for an inside cabin, to over £4,419 per person for a suite It's the largest cruise ship in the world, and it arrived at Port Canaveral, Florida on Saturday for the first time Sharing some behind-the-scenes on social media, former Love Island star Chris and American singer JoJo looked incredibly happy as they posed for snaps together Speaking to The Sun, he said: 'I was confused about how I felt. Then I wasn't confused anymore. I knew I needed to write it down to explain to her how I was feeling. 'I went to Florida thinking "I really like this person", but I was slightly confused about the feelings. I had already written her birthday card before I flew over. I took all these presents over for her. They were fun and sentimental gifts rather than anything of monetary value. 'But the night before her birthday, I realised my feelings had changed. I told her: "I've got to go do something. I'll be back in half an hour." I went to the hotel reception and borrowed a pen and came back up to the room.' Chris said he loved JoJo as a friend at first but his feelings began to change towards the end of the series. Chris revealed he turned his relationship with JoJo from friendship into romance by putting his feelings down on paper Up until her relationship with Chris, JoJo had identified as a lesbian and was in a relationship with Australian influencer Kath Ebbs, although they quickly broke up after she left the Big Brother house. It comes after JoJo recently opened up about her relationship with Chris during a Q&A with her fans on Instagram. One fan had asked: 'What's the best thing about dating Chris?' JoJo replied: 'No matter what I am feeling he is always there to help me with that feeling. Either celebrate a high one or get through a low one.' 'He is the most fun to be around and he's not only good to me but he's good to everybody. Genuinely I think he's the nicest person I know. 'Also all of the universe signs are fun to spot out. Honestly while I was answering this question one of our songs came on the loudspeaker of where I'm at right now.' Another fan pointed out that the couple's star signs were the most compatible, to which JoJo agreed that it 'made sense.'
