Madonna and Elton John Finally End Their Feud, Decades After He Slammed Her for Lip-Syncing: ‘Forgiveness Is a Powerful Tool'
Madonna and Elton John's infamous feud is officially over. The two music icons snapped a photo together behind the scenes at 'Saturday Night Live' over the weekend. John served as musical guest with Brandi Carlile. Madonna posted the photo with John to her Instagram.
'We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!!' Madonna wrote in the caption. 'I went to see Elton John perform on 'SNL' this weekend!! WOW. I remembered when I was in high school I snuck out of the house one night to see Elton perform live in Detroit. It was an unforgettable performance that helped me understand the transformative power of music. Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life. I had always felt like an outsider growing up and watching him on stage helped me to understand that it was OK to be different, to stand out, to take the road less traveled by. In fact, it was essential.'

'Over the decades it hurt me to know that someone I admired so much shared his dislike of me publicly as an artist,' she considered. 'I didn't understand it. I was told Elton John was the musical guest on 'SNL' and I decided to go. I needed to go backstage and confront him . When I met him, the first thing out of his mouth was, 'Forgive me,' and the wall between us fell down. Forgiveness is a powerful tool. Within minutes we were hugging.'
Brandi Carlile wrote in Madonna's comments section: 'Whatever happens to this country the gays won today folks'
Madonna and Elton John's feud dates back to the 2004 Q Awards, where John publicly insulted Madonna while accepting the award for classic songwriter.
'Madonna, best live act? Fuck off,' John said. 'Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that, but I think everyone who lip-syncs on stage in public when you pay like 75 quid to see them should be shot. Thank you very much. That's me off her Christmas card list, but do I give a toss? No.'
When Madonna landed the Super Bowl halftime show in 2012, John reacted on 'Good Morning America' by telling her to 'make sure you lip-sync good.'
'Her tour is a disaster and it couldn't happen to a bigger c—,' John told Australia's Channel 7 program that same year. 'If Madonna had any common sense, she would have made a record like 'Ray of Light,' stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and made great pop records, which she does brilliantly. But no… And she looks like a fucking fairground stripper.'
It's all water under the bridge now. Whether or not Madonna and John's 'SNL' meeting leads to a music collaboration remains to be seen. Madonna did end her post with a tease to fans: '[Elton] told me had written a song for me and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!!'

Tonys broadcast hit with sound complaints as viewers beg CBS to ‘turn on the mics'
Viewers tuning into the 78th annual Tony Awards have complained about sound issues affecting the broadcast. Live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the awards ceremony is being shown on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. While fans were impressed with the performances, they were disappointed by the sound while presenters, winners, and performers — like Sarah Snook and Jonathan Groff — were at the mic. 'They need to fix these sound issues while it's still early,' someone else said, while another agreed: 'Terrible sound.' 'The sound problems are really putting a hamper on the show performances. I could barely hear what Jonathan Groff was singing sometimes,' another shared. 'Why cant the #Tonys ever get the sound mix right on the Broadcast? The shows on Broadway do this 8 shows a week, its insane that @CBS can't ever get this right for one night a year,' someone else said. The original cast is reuniting to celebrate the hit musical's tenth anniversary on Broadway. Hamilton received a record-breaking 16 Tony nominations in 2016 and ultimately won 11 awards, including Best Musical. Also performing during the main broadcast were the companies of nominated musicals Death Becomes Her, Maybe Happy Ending, Buena Vista Social Club, Floyd Collins, Gypsy, Maybe Happy Ending, Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical, Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Sunset Blvd., Just In Time, and Real Women Have Curves. The first part of this year's ceremony, The Tony Awards: Act One, began streaming promptly at 6:40 p.m. ET on Pluto TV. The national broadcast, hosted by Cynthia Erivo live from Radio City Music Hall, began at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Succession star Snook took home the evening's first acting award for her expansive, one-woman take on The Picture of Dorian Gray. Paul Tazewell won for Death Becomes Her, marking the first time in 73 years that a costume designer has won an Oscar and a Tony in the same year. He won an Oscar earlier this year for Wicked: Part I. Kara Young also made history later in the evening when she became the second person to win back-to-back Tonys in the featured actress in a play category. Instagram Says Trial Reels Have Helped Creators Significantly Increase Their Reach

Instagram's trial Reels have been available for just on six months now, and IG is keen to get more creators trying out its audience sampling feature, in order to help boost content performance. As you can see in this example sequence, trial Reels are shown to a selection of users who don't follow your profile, which can give you early insight into the likely performance of your Reel. To be clear, trial Reels are not displayed to your followers, either in the main Feed or via the Reels tab. The idea is that this gives you an unbiased assessment of content quality, while also helping you potentially reach a broader audience. Which some have also used as a growth hack of sorts, in that you can get your content in front of a broader audience in the app by only showing your Reels to people who don't follow you. Within that, you can also re-post older posts as trial Reels as well, and some creators have found this to be an effective way to build their audience. Another element to consider. 'Approximately 24 hours after sharing a trial reel, you can view engagement data, such as views, likes, comments and shares. The more trial reels you create, the more insights you'll have to compare against other trial reels and the more understanding you'll have on what might perform best.' You're limited to 20 trial Reels per day, but outside of that, you can test and measure your initial Reels' response, which can then help to inform your content strategy. And for those who are using trial Reels, they have proven effective: 'After trying trial reels, 40% of creators started posting reels more often and of those who did, 80% saw an increase in reels reach from non-followers.' So it can help to guide your thinking on what to post, while you can also easily convert trial Reels into regular posts, which will then be shared with your followers. It could be a valuable tool in your IG strategy, and as Instagram notes, many creators are finding this a valuable tool for audience sampling. And IG clearly wants more creators to try it out. If you are thinking about adopting trial Reels, you need to have a professional account (though IG also says that some creators without a professional account may have access to trial reels as part of ongoing testing). ‘Love Island USA' Contestant Yulissa Escobar Apologizes for Using Racial Slur After Being Kicked Off Show: ‘I Didn't Know Better Then, but I Do Now'
'Love Island USA' contestant Yulissa Escobar has released a statement apologizing for using racial slurs in past podcast clips that resurfaced online. 'In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur,' Escobar wrote on her Instagram account. 'I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn't trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn't excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use.'
