Nebraska volleyball releases 2025 schedule
Nebraska released the volleyball schedule for the 2025 season earlier this week. The Huskers finished the 2024 season with a 33-3 record. They also won the Big Ten title with a 19-1 conference mark.
They entered the NCAA Tournament as the third overall seed, making it all the way to the semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Penn State.
One of the key storylines for this season will be new coach Dani Busboom Kelly. She took over in January 2025, following the retirement of legendary coach John Cook. Now, Nebraska volleyball will begin a new era.
The Huskers kick off the season on Friday, Aug. 22, when they host the Pitt Panthers at Pinnacle Bank Arena as part of the AVCA First Serve Showcase. They start Big Ten play against the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday, Sep. 24, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They close the 2025 season on Nov. 29 at home against Ohio State.
The program looks poised for another major run in 2025, but will have to try to replace All-Americans Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason. Things will look a bit different on the sidelines without Cook, but the program should be in good hands with a new head coach, and most of last season's starters are returning.

Wayne Matthews III says MSU is 'stacked' at LB, gives freshman LB a shout out
A freshman Spartans linebacker is turning heads in what is considered a "stacked" position group A freshman linebacker has gained the respect and grabbed the attention of a veteran within that position room. Veteran linebacker Wayne Matthews spoke with the media on Tuesday, fielding a number of questions about the Spartans as they prepare for the 2025 season. Matthews was quoted staying the Spartans are "stacked" at linebacker this year, with one particular young player getting a personal shout out as well: Brady Pretzlaff. Per a post on social media from Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows, Matthews said Pretzlaff is "going to be a guy" for the Spartans. Whether or not that is this year or down the road is not clear, but certainly still some high praise from Matthews for the young redshirt freshman linebacker. Here's the full post from Matasovsky with the quote from Matthews: Pretzlaff played in four games last year but was able to preserve his redshirt status. He tallied a seven total tackles, with one of which being for a loss. He was a four-star prospect in On3's ratings for the 2024 class, and a nice recruiting win for Jonathan Smith's staff in his first recruiting cycle. Pretzlaff came to Michigan State with expectations of seeing solid playing time early in his career and it sounds like that is going to happen. Having another young solid linebacker in an already talented -- "stacked" as Matthews said -- room is great news for the Spartans. 5 biggest surprises from 2025 Steelers unofficial depth chart
Steelers fans rejoice, the 2025 unofficial depth chart has been unveiled! The Pittsburgh Steelers have completely overhauled their roster through free agency, the 2025 NFL Draft, and trades this offseason — resulting in more than just a few positional shakeups. From co-position leaders to surprising rookie placements, here are the five biggest takeaways from the Steelers' 2025 unofficial depth chart. DE Derrick Harmon is a Day 1 starter Not all rookies are built the same, but the Steelers clearly view first-round DE Derrick Harmon as starting caliber — listing him as the DE1. There's clear excitement surrounding Harmon heading into Year 1, but the same can't be said, however, for rookie RB Kaleb Johnson. Kaleb Johnson at RB3 After Johnson received a few first-team opportunities at training camp, many assumed Jaylen Warren and the Steelers' third-round rookie could function as the RB-1A and RB-1B — with Kenneth Gainwell serving as a potential receiving back on certain plays. But the unofficial depth chart has Johnson listed as the RB3, where he might remain through the early parts of the season. Kenneth Gainwell, Jaylen Warren as kick returners While Mike Tomlin hinted that the two running backs were in consideration for kickoff return duties, many assumed WR Roman Wilson was winning the competition after he was spotted handling the role at training camp. Warren has experience at the position, as does Gainwell, but tasking your top two listed running backs feels more like a placeholder move — with the real selection likely to come at a later date. Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth are competing for TE1 Many were shocked when Jonnu Smith was traded to Pittsburgh — but an equally surprising move is Freiermuth seemingly on the verge of losing TE1 responsibilities completely, as the two big pass catchers are co-leaders at the position. This battle is one to keep an eye on throughout preseason and the rest of training camp. Steelers punting battle is alive and well Despite many believing the return of P Cameron Johnston marked the beginning of the end for P Corliss Waitmann's Steelers tenure, both were listed as co-starters on the depth chart. Waitmann served admirably in Johnston's absence after the veteran suffered a season-ending knee injury last season and could potentially push him as preseason marches on.
