Villarreal sign Thomas Partey and condemn ‘violence in all its forms'

The 32-year-old Ghana international, whose contract with the Gunners expired at the end of last season, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with five counts of rape against two women, as well as a charge of sexual assault against a third.
The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022, when he was an Arsenal player. Partey was not asked to enter any pleas and was granted conditional bail.
Villarreal announced on Thursday afternoon that they had reached an agreement with the former Atletico Madrid, Real Mallorca and Almeria player, who will join his team-mates at the training ground on Friday, but did not specify the length of contract he has signed.
However, in a statement published on their official X account, they said: 'The club is also aware that the player is currently involved in legal proceeding in England. The player firmly maintains his innocence and denies all charges against him.
'The club respects the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence and will await the outcome of the judicial process, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts of the case. Due to the law in England in relation to ongoing proceedings the club is unable to comment further.
'Villarreal CF wishes to clearly reiterate its strong commitment to respect and diversity and firmly condemns any act of violence in all its forms, including gender-based violence, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, or any behaviour that undermines the dignity of individuals.'

Partey, who was charged four days after his contract at Arsenal expired at the end of June, is due to appear at the Old Bailey on September 2.
One of the conditions of his bail is that he must notify police of any permanent changes of address or international travel.
Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 in a £45.3million switch from Atletico and made 120 Premier League appearances for the club.
The Villarreal statement said: 'Thomas Teye Partey is a complete midfielder with great stamina and exceptional physical attributes. He is an excellent ball-winner and has the ability to start moves from deep.
'The African footballer also boasts a good shot from mid-range and has the ability to break lines when driving forward.'

Chelsea urged to reconsider 'problematic' £50m transfer decision

Frank Leboeuf is fearful that Chelsea would be creating more problems than solutions if they were to bring Alejandro Garnacho to Stamford Bridge. Garnacho has long been destined to leave Manchester United after a falling out with Ruben Amorim at the end of last season, but has reiterated his desire to stay in the Premier League. Chelsea pursued a deal for the winger in January and have now reportedly reignited their efforts to bring the Argentine international to west London. Garnacho is said to have already agreed personal terms with Chelsea, although the Blues still have to match United's £50m valuation before a sale is sanctioned. The 21-year-old regsistered six goals and two assists in the league last season, but would be walking into a team stacked with talent in wide attacking areas. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer remain key players in Enzo Maresca's side, while summer signings Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro all showed their capabilities in Chelsea's pre-season victory over Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the week. And with that in mind, Lebouef believes his former side should think twice about signing Garnacho, fearing that the stockpiling of talent could have adverse effects on the squad's harmony. 'No I don't understand it (Chelsea's interest in Garnacho), of course not,' he told ESPN. 'And on top of it, I saw Gittens coming in for the last 15 minures and he really impressed me. Every time he got the ball, he made a difference. He was very impressive. 'Garnacho will play in the same position on the left side – I never saw Garnacho do that even when he was at the top of his game. 'He's a great player but you are going to pay between 50 or 60million for a guy in a position where you already have the players that you need. I don't see Garnacho adding something better than what they already have.' Lebouef continued: 'To have it too crowded can also create problems. The dressing room is going to be young and the atmosphere can change – one person can destroy it. 'I'm not saying that would be Garnacho, it could be any player if they don't play and become moody, which creates problems in the dressing room.' As well as pursuing a move for Garnacho, Chelsea could also be looking for further defensive reinforcement after Levi Colwill's long-term injury. More Trending And speaking after their pre-season win versus Leverkusen, Maresca admitted that signing a new centre-half is now a 'priority' for the rest of the window. 'It's a priority for me, yes, because Levi is a fantastic player,' Maresca told Channel 5. 'What we achieved last season is because of him also. I love him, I'm going to miss him. We are trying also to find different solutions.' Pressed again if Chelsea planned to sign another centre-back before the end of the window, Maresca responded: 'We'll see, we'll see.' Everton ramp up Jack Grealish transfer bid with Man City star 'keen' on switch

Jack Grealish faces little future with Manchester City under Pep Guardiola but one of their Premier League rivals could offer the England man an escape route from the Etihad Stadium Everton have cranked up their efforts to sign Jack Grealish as he aims to revive his career. The Manchester City winger faces little future at the Etihad Stadium having been told to leave by Pep Guardiola. ‌ Grealish was axed from the City squad for the Club World Cup in the USA. With the new season now just a week away, the 29-year-old is yet to find a new club but it appears that Everton could offer him a way out. ‌ According to The Times, David Moyes ' side are upping their attempts to take Grealish to Merseyside. They are keen to sign him on loan and further conversations regarding an agreement have recently taken place. ‌ City are aiming to recoup as much of Grealish's £300k-per-week wage packet as possible, a demand that Everton are seemingly open to meeting. The winger is also open to a move across the north west. Speaking about Grealish's future earlier this summer, Guardiola said: 'It was a conversation between him and the club and they decide. Jack is an exceptional player, the only reason why he didn't play last season is of course my decisions, and we decide that he has to play - and the club was honest, he was honest. 'We decide the best is that he has a place that he can feel he can play and come back to be the player that he was in the year of the treble or all his career at Aston Villa; without him it would have been impossible or more difficult to achieve the treble. 'The fact is the last two seasons he hasn't played much minutes and he has to come back to play and get the butterflies back in his stomach that he can play every three days and show again the quality that he has.' Grealish could become Everton's sixth signing of the summer should a move go through. They have already completed deals for Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Villarreal and Chelsea respectively. ‌ Adam Aznou and Mark Travers have also completed moves, while Carlos Alcaraz's loan from Flamengo was made permanent. Moyes' side also retain an interest in Southampton 's Tyler Dibling - the youngster having missed the Saints' Championship opener against Wrexham on Saturday. Everton commence their Premier League campaign next weekend against newly-promoted Leeds United. Meanwhile, Man City kick off their campaign against Wolves at Molineux.

Everton ‘close in on Jack Grealish loan transfer with Toffees ready to pay huge portion of £300,000-a-week wages'

EVERTON are closing in on a deal to land Jack Grealish on a season-long loan, reports suggest. Grealish, 29, has been deemed surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. But after struggling for game time last season, the England international is hoping to reignite his club career to earn his place back in Thomas Tuchel 's plans for the World Cup. And according to The Times, Grealish is closing in on a transfer to join David Moyes ' Everton. One of the main issues has been the former Aston Villa star's £300,000-a-week wages - possibly amounting to a package worth at least £12million. However, the Toffees will not let that be a sticking point as talks have continued with the belief Grealish is willing to move. Grealish has struggled to contribute goals at City in the way he did with Aston Villa, often being used as a foil to bring the ball upfield and win fouls in the final third rather than as the primary attacking threat. But if David Moyes is willing to unleash him in the way the Villans did, Grealish may be able to return to the levels seen during his time in the West Hidlands. Man City left Grealish at home during the Club World Cup and repeated that act for a pre-season friendly today in Italy against Palmero. Guardiola fielded two completely teams across the halves of football as the Cityzens triumphed 3-0, courtesy of a 25th Erling Haaland strike and a second half brace from Tijjani Reijnders. Everton have thus far signed five players this summer, including spending big money on Thierno Barry from Villarreal and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea. They have also seen three bids, the latest of which came out to £37m including add-ons, rejected by Southampton for Tyler Dibling. Jack Grealish has gone from eye-catching showman and heartthrob to miserable bench warmer - and I know who's to blame The 19-year-old was left out of the Saints squad to face Wrexham in their Championship opener - which they won 2-1. Southampton countered by demanding a package of £45m plus £5m in add-ons and a 25 per cent sell-on clause. Everton open their season with an away trip to newly-promoted Leeds before hosting Brighton in their first competitive fixture at the new 52,000-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium. Meanwhile, Man City travel to Wolves on the opening weekend before hosting Tottenham at the Etihad.
