Welfare, development two eyes for me: Naidu
Speaking at a public meeting during his two-day visit to Kuppam, his longtime Assembly constituency in Chittoor district, on Wednesday, the CM spoke about his government's balanced approach to welfare and development. 'Development and welfare are two eyes for me. Revenue must be used for the benefit of the poor, but without neglecting development which will in turn enhance the state's revenues,' he said.
Naidu strongly criticised the previous administration for what he described as severe financial mismanagement, claiming it had left the state burdened with Rs 10 lakh crore in debt and had misused central funds, disrupting important welfare schemes.
He stated that his government was working to lead Andhra Pradesh from a state of ruin toward meaningful development. 'We are guiding the state, which was driven into ruin, towards development. I have come to you as part of the first step in good governance,' he added.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to transform Kuppam into a model constituency for the entire nation. He outlined key projects and developmental initiatives underway in the area.
He pointed out at the completion of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project, which was undertaken at a cost of Rs.3,890 crore, and assured the gathering that water would reach the last ayacut in Kuppam by the end of the year.
The Chief Minister further said: 'In Kuppam alone, we are carrying out works worth Rs.1,292 crore, and projects worth Rs.125 crore have already been completed'. He also noted that ensuring pothole-free roads across the state remains a top priority.
Naidu added that under the 'Swarna Kuppam' project, infrastructure in the constituency is being upgraded with the construction of concrete and bitumen roads. He highlighted efforts to boost local industry and market connectivity through the promotion of 'Brand Kuppam' and said that plans for a new airport, with Rs.850 crore allocated, were underway. Assuring the public that land acquisition would be fair and transparent, he promised generous compensation packages for those who part with their land.
Pushing forward his green energy agenda, Naidu said rooftop solar panels would be installed on every house in Kuppam under the PM Suryaghar Yojana. 'I will stand by you until every household has solar power, which would drastically reduce electricity costs and improve energy independence', he said.
Naidu urged the people to support leaders who truly stand by them, not those who engage in political violence. 'I don't believe in the politics of murder or death. I believe in politics of public good,' he said, defending himself against what he claimed were baseless allegations and politically motivated attacks.
On this occasion, Naidu launched various development projects while four MoUs with Aditya Birla Group, eRoyce motors, ACE International Limited and SVF Soya Pvt Ltd were signed in his presence. Also, he distributed welfare payments to the beneficiaries. Chittoor MP D Prasada Rao, MLC K Srikanth, Collector Sumit Kumar, KADA Project Director Vikas Marmat were also present.

Chandigarh: Rs 20-crore bulk material market to come up in Sector 56
The Chandigarh Administration is in a plan to develop a bulk material market, spread over 44 acres, at a cost of Rs 20 crore in Sector 56. The new facility, which is intended to relocate the marble market currently operating in Dhanas, as many as 191 one-kanal plots and 48 booth sites will be auctioned on a leasehold basis. According to officials, the administration has already engaged a consultant to secure the mandatory environmental clearance for the project. The consultant will approach the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change for approval, a process expected to take nearly two months. Only after receiving the clearance will the authorities invite bids for allotment of sites, paving the way for the eventual relocation of the market. The environmental nod is necessary because the built-up area of the project exceeds 20,000 square metres. In addition, nearly 339 trees, including 34 that are already dried up, will need to be felled before site allotments can begin. Earlier, the UT Engineering Department had aimed to make the market ready for auction by May this year, but the absence of clearance delayed progress. The market design allows for a basement and three floors on each one-kanal site, giving traders flexibility in developing their plots. The reserve price for auction will be fixed based on prevailing collector rates. While the initial plan was to shift only marble traders from Dhanas, displaced furniture market traders and others from different trades will also be able to participate in the bidding. As per surveys conducted in 2016 and 2018, there were 188 marble shops operating in Dhanas. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier declared such temporary markets illegal and directed their removal, prompting the administration to come up with the permanent solution in Sector 56.

PFC inks loan pact worth EUR 150 million with German lender KfW
State-owned power sector finance firm PFC on Thursday said it signed a loan agreement worth EUR 150 million with German lender KfW to fund projects under a government's scheme to revamp electricity distribution in the country. The loan agreement with KfW marks a continuation of the long-standing partnership of the governments of India and Germany in the energy sector, built over several decades, PFC (Power Finance Corporation) said in a statement. KfW is Germany's largest promotional bank and is committed to improving economic, social and environmental conditions across the globe on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, the statement said. The loan proceeds will be utilised to finance projects under the Government of India's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), aimed at improving the operational and financial efficiency of power distribution companies across the country. The scheme with an outlay of Rs 3,03,758 crore was launched in 2021. PFC and KfW have previously collaborated on multiple projects in the distribution sector, and this new facility is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation while contributing to the shared goal of both countries of accelerating the energy transition. The loan agreement was signed by Parminder Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director, PFC, and Stefan Wintels, CEO, KfW, in the presence of Gottfried von Gemmingen, Head of Division for Economic Affairs, German Embassy New Delhi. "This new line of credit will help in realising government's vision of ensuring reliable, affordable, and sustainable power supply to consumers across the country. We also look forward to working with KfW in new and emerging areas, especially renewables and clean energy, thereby advancing India's energy transition," Chopra said.

Punjab suspends 8 panchayat secretaries over Rs 18-crore ‘embezzlement' by AAP leader Ranjit Singh Cheema's brother
The Punjab Government on Tuesday suspended eight panchayat secretaries in Tarn Taran district following the alleged embezzlement of Rs 18-crore panchayat funds involving the brother of a leader of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. An order issued by Uma Shankar Gupta, Director, Rural Development and Panchayats, identified the suspended panchayat secretaries as Gurjinder Singh, Hardiyal Singh, Sahanshah Singh, Jaspal Singh, Balraj Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Jaswinder Singh, and Sushil Kumar. In July, Rahul Sindhu, Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran, recommended 'strong action' against 10 panchayat secretaries for failing to provide records required to investigate the alleged embezzlement. The Indian Express reported in September 2024 that Baljeet Singh, brother of AAP leader Ranjit Singh Cheema, was accused of siphoning off funds through Cowberry AGROVET OPC Private Limited, which was engaged in the cattle feed and water coolers businesses. He was enlisted as a contractor with the water resources department in 2023 after his brother became chairman of the Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation. The investigation was started on a complaint filed by RTI activist Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, alleging that funds were released for projects in villages under the Khadoor Sahib constituency, but the work was either incomplete or never started. However, the investigation couldn't progress as the panchayat secretaries declined to provide records pertaining to alleged irregularities in projects worth over Rs 85 lakh executed between June and August 2024. The deputy commissioner's letter had named several panchayat secretaries, stating that they did not submit the required documents, thereby hindering the investigation. Payara Singh, District Development and Panchayat Officer, said, 'They have been suspended because they didn't provide the records needed for the investigation. Now, further inquiry will be conducted on where the records are.'
