Kuwait to raise power output by 74% in 6 yrs
KUWAIT: HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah on Monday chaired a meeting at Bayan Palace that discussed raising electricity production capacity by 74 percent to over 33,000 megawatts over the next six years. The meeting discussed ways to implement five major electricity and water desalination projects, in addition to two solar energy projects to achieve the target to meet Kuwait's rising consumption.
Authorities in Kuwait resorted last year and early this year to programmed power cuts that covered tens of residential and industrial areas as consumption soared to record levels due to a hike in temperature above 50 degrees Celsius. The power cuts were implemented despite Kuwait importing around 1,000 MW from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) power grid to meet rising demand and because of a delay in implementing new power projects.
Kuwait's current production capacity stands at 19,000 MW and the proposed projects are planned to increase production to 33,050 MW, the meeting was told. The prime minister stressed the importance of harnessing all resources and overcoming obstacles to implement the projects within the timeframe, including amending legislation to allow private companies to produce electricity. He expressed appreciation for efforts led by the ministry of electricity, water and renewable energy and other bodies.
The discussions focused on key future ventures including Shagaya and Al-Abdaliya renewable energy projects, as well as Al-Zour North (phases 1 and 2), Al-Khiran (phase 1), Al-Nuwaiseeb (phase 1) and Subiya expansion power plants. The meeting was attended by Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Minister Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem and a number of senior officials.

The four categories of tourist visas are: Category One - Citizens of approved countries, determined based on the Global Peace Index, passport strength, and per capita income. These countries have no additional requirements and can choose from six tourist visa options - single or multiple entries, with stay durations of one, two, three, six months, or one year, provided each entry does not exceed one month. Category Two - Expats of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, residents of countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Schengen countries, as well as holders of tourist visas for these countries. These individuals can obtain a tourist visa if they belong to approved medium- or high-level professions that demonstrate the financial solvency necessary for tourism, residence, and travel in Kuwait. Currently, no proof of income is required as long as they reside in a Gulf country. Category Three (Under study) - This will be an open visa for anyone wishing to visit Kuwait for tourism who does not fall under categories one or two. It will require proof of financial solvency, such as a bank statement. Category Four - For local and international events and activities. Its requirements and duration are determined at the time of each event, such as the Gulf Cup, Asian Cup, or exhibitions held in Kuwait, based on the event's needs. Colonel Al-Kandari went on to explain that any resident can now apply for family visits and bring their relatives to stay in Kuwait, as the salary requirement has been abolished. Kinship ties have been expanded to include relatives up to the third and fourth degrees, allowing the entire family to be brought in. The process begins with approval, followed by payment, after which the visa is issued electronically. Kuwait, Chad seek stronger trade ties
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 13: Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Nayef Al-Mudhaf confirmed that the annual trade exchange between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Chad currently amounts to approximately KD80,000. In a press statement, Al-Mudhaf expressed his aspiration that this amount will increase in the future; while affirming the two sides' commitment to strengthen trade cooperation. He indicated that Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has so far provided eight loans to the Republic of Chad ( a total of more than $110 million) to support infrastructure projects. Regarding cooperation in recruiting Chadian workers, Al-Mudhaf explained that there is no such agreement yet; but Kuwait is prepared to look into the matter if the Chadian side wishes to do so and will work hard to complete it. He pointed out the tremendous efforts exerted by Kuwaiti charitable organizations to support Sudanese refugees, stressing that these efforts will expand with the support and follow-up of the Chadian Embassy. He also revealed that the coming period will witness discussions with the Chadian ambassador to Kuwait to discuss opportunities to increase Kuwaiti investments in Chad and present these opportunities to Kuwaiti investors wishing to expand there. He wished the Republic of Chad further progress and prosperity. On the other hand, Chadian Ambassador to Kuwait Dr. Taher Al-Nazif Khater said the relationship with Kuwait is deeply rooted; dating back to the independence of the two countries in the early 1960s. 'It continues steadily and confidently; refl ecting the importance that the leaders of both countries -- President of the Republic Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah – put in the relationship. The two parties are keen on strengthening this relationship and developing it to a broader level.
