Pau Alsina: JuniorGP World Championship star dies aged 17 following horror crash
A rising motorcycle star has died aged just 17 after a horror racing smash.
Pau Alsina sustained head injuries when he was thrown from his bike. He died in hospital on Monday two days after the crasg, which happened during the JuniorGP World Championship at the MotorLand Aragón circuit, near Alcañiz, eastern Spain.
Pau was rushed to a hospital in Zaragoza, where he underwent emergency surgery. Despite the swift medical intervention, the 17-year-old racing star died from his injuries.
The teenager, from Sallent in Catalonia, began riding motorcycles aged three. He was one of the standout talents in the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team and had already started making a name for himself in this season's JuniorGP World Championship.
Pau was ranked 13th in the overall standings and had scored points in every race except the first. He was also competing in the Italian CIV Moto3 Championship, where he sat in fourth place overall with two podium finishes to his name.
He was among a new generation of Spanish riders tipped for greatness. Pau often said in interviews that his idols were the Márquez and Espargaró brothers.
His team said in a statement: "Pau's commitment, energy, and always positive and warm attitude will remain with us forever. Rest in peace, Pau. We love you." The Sallent City Council held a day of mourning yesterday and a minute's silence in the youngster's memory.
Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Márquez posted his condolences to Pau Alsina in an Instagram story, writing: "No words. How unfair life is. Rest in peace, Pau."
The circumstances of the crash are not yet clear and remain under investigation. The tragic news comes just weeks after another Spanish rider, Borja Gómez from Murcia, of the Stock class, passed away following an accident while preparing for the previous race event as part of the circuit, in Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France.
Last year, a MotoGP star was airlifted to hospital after being involved in a 120mph crash during the Australian Grand Prix Sprint race. Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi hit the back of Spain's Maverick Vinales on the first corner at the Phillip Island circuit. The two riders both went flying off their bikes, with the incident described as a "massive crash" by the MotoGP commentator.
But Vinales has been declared fit after the incident but Bezzecchi was airlifted to hospital in Melbourne to undergo a full checkup. Despite impacting at 120mph, Bezzecchi is understood not to have suffered any fractures or serious injuries.

Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey to appear in court on rape charges
Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey is due to appear in court charged with raping two women. The midfielder faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following alleged offences between 2021 and 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said. The 32-year-old is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Partey's lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, previously said he 'denies all the charges against him', adding he welcomed 'the opportunity to finally clear his name'. The Ghanaian international was charged four days after leaving the North London club when his contract expired at the end of June. Partey, of Hertfordshire, is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts of rape against another. The sexual assault allegation relates to a third woman, according to the CPS. The Metropolitan Police said it first received reports of an allegation of rape in February 2022. Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 in a transfer worth around £45 million. The defensive midfielder signed for the Spanish club in 2012 and made 188 appearances, as well as going out on loan to Mallorca and Leganes. He played 35 games for the north London club in the Premier League last season, scoring four goals. Partey has also made more than 50 appearances for Ghana – including at the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. An Arsenal spokesperson previously said: 'The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.'

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has returned to the club's training ground, having missed out on the club's pre-season action and returned to Spain to train With less than a fortnight to go until the start of the Premier League season, Alexander Isak's future is far from certain. Back in 1974, Manchester United legend George Best was dropped by boss Tommy Docherty - reportedly after the manager dropped him for going on a three-day bender. Best made it clear he was done with United, and it turned out he was done with the English top flight. His career continued in the lower leagues - via spells in the United States and South Africa - but he never played in the old First Division again. Diego Costa Costa twice fired Chelsea to Premier League glory, first under Jose Mourinho and then under Antonio Conte. However, things didn't go quite as well in his second season under the Italian boss. Conte let Costa know by text that he wouldn't be part of the Blues' plans in the 2017-18 season, prompting the striker to head to Brazil while his team-mates returned for pre-season training. He did eventually get the exit he desired, rejoining Atletico Madrid, but not until January 2018. "I was away from here because I needed some time to think," he said after returning to first-team action. "You'll always have regrets but at that time I thought it was the best thing to do." Matheus Nunes Speaking of Manchester City players, Nunes made sure his move to the Etihad Stadium would come to fruition in 2023. And his decision to go on strike wasn't exactly well-received. "I was disappointed with how it ended, it wasn't necessary the stance Matheus took, but we ended with a good resolution for everyone," Wolves transfer chief Matt Hobbs said. Tevez refused to come off the bench for Manchester City. The club took disciplinary action, and he was out of the picture for months, though he would later argue he didn't go on an effective strike - claiming it was all a misunderstanding. After six months away from the team, Tevez returned to action in March and later scored big goals to help City win the title. That was enough for pretty much everyone to put the whole affair behind them.

Arsenal have had a very busy summer transfer window so far with Mikel Arteta welcoming a host of new faces to North London and it appears that some other big signings could be in the offing The 2025/26 Premier League season is drawing ever closer for Arsenal. There's now less than two weeks until the Gunners' opening game of the campaign against Manchester United at Old Trafford. It all means there's still plenty of work for Mikel Arteta to do to get his squad in the best position it can be. Those two games will give a host of new signings more chances to integrate, with ex-Chelsea man Noni Madueke finally expected to link up with his new teammates. Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Cristhian Mosquera will all get the chance to step out at the Emirates Stadium for the first time. While Arsenal already have a host of new faces in situ, their work in the transfer market might not be quite finished yet. Arsenal remain keen on adding a new winger to their squad. And it appears that they already know the man they want.
