Turkey and Italy strengthen ties with trade and defence agreements
His visit comes at a time when Turkey and Italy have expanded defence partnerships.
In March, Turkey's leading drone manufacturer, Baykar, reached a memorandum of understanding for a joint venture with Italy's Leonardo for production of unmanned aerial vehicles. Last year, Baykar bought Italian aircraft producer Piaggio Aerospace.
Speaking after their meeting, Ms Meloni and Mr Erdogan said that Turkey and Italy have successfully reached their 30 billion-dollar (£22.3 billion) trade volume target and have now set a new goal of 40 billion dollars (£29.8 billion), signalling further economic collaboration.
'We will continue to strengthen our co-operation with Italy, which has made significant progress in the field of defence industry, with new partnerships and projects,' Mr Erdogan said.
Italy sees Turkey as a key partner in managing migration numbers and maintaining stability in the region.
On Tuesday, Ms Meloni thanked Mr Erdogan, saying joint measures by Turkey and Italy had resulted in the number of migrants originating from Turkey dropping to 'zero'.
Mr Erdogan said: 'We will continue our co-operation with Italy in the field of combating irregular migration in the coming period.'
The Turkish leader also said the sides had discussed possible co-operation towards Syria's redevelopment and would hold more consultations on the issue.

New CBL Tripoli HQ construction project inaugurated – 11 years after it was announced
Over 11 years after the project was first announced, Naji Issa, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), inaugurated the CBL's construction project for its new headquarters in the Gurji area of Tripoli last Monday (11 August), in the presence of several CBL department heads and notaries. In its information and marketing video for the project, the CBL says this comes as a step to bring the CBL's departments together in one integrated independent facility like the rest of the central banks of the world. It said this will end an era in which the employees of the various departments suffered due to their scattered presence in several different areas in the city of Tripoli. The CBL says design of the new building is inspired by the ancient cave homes dug into the Western/Nesfusa Mountains. It is designed according to the latest approved engineering standards to be the first building of its kind in Libya to obtain the golden accreditation for environmentally friendly buildings. Its modern systems, it adds, consider the digital transformation strategy, making the project a symbol of the independence of the CBL, as an independent sovereign institution. Specifically, the new 50,000-square-metre headquarters will occupy an area over 5 hectares with a car park with a capacity of 1,100. It will be able to house the 1,000 employees of the CBL's 30 departments, its training centre, a library and a clinic. Danish architects Henning Larsen win design competition It will be recalled that in April 2014, and as reported then by Libya Herald, it was announced that the design of Danish architects, Henning Larsen, won the competition for the build of the new CBL headquarters. Henning Larsen beat off competition from 22 other international and local designers to win the contract. The project will bring together CBL offices that have been scattered around the capital, since the bank's iconic headquarters building on the coastal side of the Medina (Old City), has long been unable to house all departments. Although no cost has been revealed, it may be indicative to know that a plan published in 2008 to build a new Italian-designed CBL bank HQ on the-then Green, now Martyrs' Square, was costed then at €98 million. Henning Larsen, in announcing their success, have emphasised the environmental and low-energy credentials of their design which involves offices built around a slightly angled atrium. The architects explained: 'By using and re-interpreting specifics of the Libyan nature and culture the new headquarters of the Central Bank of Libya will be a symbol of the new Libya, both for the local as well as the global community. 'We believe that the Central Bank of Libya must project an image of authority, solidity and security. At the same time, the Central Bank of Libya plays a crucial role in Libya's economic growth, and as such, it should project a forward thinking, dynamic attitude, that grasps opportunities.'

An application to transform the former Little People Store on Heol y Deri, Rhiwbina, is yet to be decided by Cardiff Council and is currently in the consultation phase. However, the applicant's vision for the restaurant has been published on the council's website. Shedding light on the restaurant, Mr Thomas added: 'I myself will be making use of my eight and half years of experience in Tuscany to cook real authentic Italian recipes using some produce imported directly from Italy and also using the fantastic local producers South Wales has to offer. 'My idea is to use the very same ingredients we use in the restaurant and actually make them available to buy from the on-site deli. 'For example if a customer really enjoyed the cheese or the wine they had that night, they can then also purchase the same produce at the deli to take away with them after their meal.' In his application to the council, he said he 'would love the opportunity' to work with the allotments adjacent the premises 'to give a… 'farm to table' idea for some items/dishes on the restaurant menu'. The application also hints at the possibility of future working relationships with Wine Republic and Pettigrew Bakery, who also have premises in the suburb that was recently named one of the best places in Wales to live. Mr Thomas said: 'While the business might not be the biggest restaurant in Cardiff I am certainly looking to make it one of the best and offer something that I think really represents real quality and passion.' At the rear of the property, there is parking provision for six vehicles. Article continues below The proposal at the moment is for the business to open from Tuesday to Saturday. However, the applicant said he would like to open up one Sunday every month for an all-Italian style roast dinner and aperitivo.
