Airplane passenger apologizes for creating a 'stink' with severe diarrhea and vomiting on a woman
A traveler who suffered an explosive bout of gastroenteritis on a flight has publicly apologized to his fellow passengers for creating a 'stink' and vomiting on a woman.
The man was flying with Batik Air Malaysia from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Perth, Australia, on Sunday when his illness suddenly hit.
He said he had begun to feel sick after eating dragon fruit at his hotel before boarding the four-and-a-half-hour flight.
He wrote on Reddit: 'I want to apologize to you all for my uncontrollable gastroenteritis.
'I'm sorry for the stink. My diarrhea was dreadful, but I managed to get to the toilet on time, each time.
'Thank you for your understanding and kindness by giving me some paracetamol. I was terribly embarrassed. Thank you to the man sitting next to me in the opposite aisle seat, you were all so understanding.'
It wasn't only the stench that annoyed his fellow flyers.
He added: 'I am so sorry to the lady who was sitting next to me and I vomited all over you. I missed the vomit bag.'
Gastroenteritis, commonly known as 'gastro' or 'stomach flu', is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines caused by various factors like viruses, bacteria, or parasites.
It typically leads to diarrhea and vomiting, which in turn can lead to dehydration.
The vast majority of those on Reddit were sympathetic towards the man who had to deal with his illness in a confined space.
One wrote: 'Gastro is a nightmare to deal with in flight. I once dealt with it ripping through economy on a flight to the U.S. It was awful, and we ran out of everything.
'People were vomiting into their hands and eventually we gave up trying to segregate anyone as it was obvious it was out of control.
'Three of the crew ended up with it as well. We basically shoved one crew into the cockpit with the bio gear and told her to only leave to get the pilots food and drink.'
Another wrote: 'This is a nightmare situation. So sorry you had to go through that in such a crowded space with no way out.'
One Redditor claiming to be a passenger on the flight chimed in.
They wrote: 'Hey mate, met you at the smoking section just outside pickup when you were heading off to look for your car.
'I kept thinking about what you said after I got home. Honestly, I don't know if I would've reacted with the same grace as that lady in the moment.
'I reckon I probably would've flipped out, not from anger, just from the heat of the moment.'
The gastroenteritis victim went on to say the vomiting did not last long, but after getting home he still had to rush to the toilet a few times during the night.
One social media user asked why the man would let the world know his embarrassing story.
They wrote: 'Not even God himself could beat this information out of me. Glad the flight was okay and people were understanding.'

Eurostar passengers have complained of being stuck for up to seven hours after a person was hit by a train on its tracks in France. Trains in both directions between London St Pancras International and Gare Du Nord in Paris were delayed for hours or cancelled on Tuesday evening. Photos showed large queues at both train stations, while stranded passengers demanded refunds on social media. In a statement on X, Eurostar offered its apologies to customers affected. 'Due to a person struck by a train near Lille Europe, we are expecting delays and cancellations to our services this evening,' it said. Trainwreck: Poop Cruise Review – Americans vs. the Red Bag of Doom
Americans vs. the Red Bag of Doom A luxury cruise turned into an absolute nightmare back in 2013, when over 4000 passengers found themselves stranded at sea with nowhere to go onboard the Carnival Triumph. Unfortunately, that name is rather oxymoronic because as we see across this documentary, there's nothing triumphant about this cruise-liner or the way the story is told. What started as an engine fire soon escalated to failed AC units, inoperable toilets, a diet of tomato and lettuce sandwiches and *gasp* defecating in a red bag. The real horror villain of Trainwreck's latest documentary stems from the infamous red bags. With the toilets not working, Ship Director Jan shocks and horrifies 4000 Americans when she declares that they all need to 'do a number 2 in a red biohazard bag'. Judging by the reactions of those passengers interviewed, this was one of the most shocking and triggering moments from the whole ordeal. With the media coverage in America dubbing this the 'Poop Cruise', Netflix are not one to miss a trick and their documentary showcases an hour of passengers and staff members recounting their ordeals. Unfortunately, in an attempt to swing this documentary into humorous waters, the tone hits so hard into whining and satire that it's hard to take any of this seriously. As we'd say over here in the UK, shit happens. And for those onboard the Triumph, it absolutely did. Just not in the red bags, unfortunately. One passenger spends a good 40 minutes talking about his personal battle with trying not to defecate onboard, while another three partygoers bemoan how their good-time piss-up has been ruined and they just wanted to get back on with partying. Their insightful interviews include soundbites like 'This can't be real!' and 'Selfie time!' The one saving grace from this documentary comes from the lovely ship director, Jan, and Abhi, one of the chefs onboard. These two balance humour with genuine down to earth reactions, laughing off some of the more incredulous moments, with a rather amusing comparison to lasagne. Seeing behind the scenes is a nice touch missing from some of the media coverage at the time, but at 55 minutes, this documentary is way too short to dive into the whys and more interested in rehashing the eyewitness accounts from customers. There are no diagrams (beyond little cartoons about what to do and what not to do), no descriptions around exactly how much worse this could have been had the fires spread, and no clarity around the logistics of the eventual rescue. Why couldn't the military get involved? Why was the order given not to deploy the lifeboats and try to get people to safety? Why not transport some of the sicker or more urgent customers across to the adjacent cruise liner that rocks up with emergency supplies? With the exception of a few photos from the engine room, some radio chatter and Jan mentioning once what a big operation it would have been to move passengers onto said cruise-liner, this documentary doesn't really do much to show the insights from those in charge and calling the shots. The film also misses a trick because after a particular segment where free booze is given out to disgruntled, angry customers (what could possibly go wrong?) we hear about fights but never anything regarding how the staff dealt with that or the ramifications of it. Where are the security guards? Why are none of these interviewed when things got bad and people started to rebel? Instead, a lot of Poop Cruise is played off for humorous soundbites more than an insightful look at exactly how or why this occurred. The back-end of this documentary almost explores some of this through a maritime lawyer but that's not what this documentary is really interested in exploring. As an hour of lowbrow laughs, Trainwreck: Poop Cruise might squeeze out a chuckle or two. But if you're expecting a serious look at cruise liner safety, mechanical failures, or the public health nightmare this could've sparked—you're on the wrong ship. Beyond the novelty of passengers pooping in bags and wading through sewage, this documentary has all the depth of a brown puddle on the poop deck.

Brazilian tourist found dead after falling from Indonesian volcano
A young Brazilian hiker who fell from the ridge of a towering Indonesian volcano and was trapped there for almost four days has been found dead, Brazil's government said. For days, millions of people in Brazil had watched, posted and prayed as rescuers tried to locate her. Advertisement The tourist, 26-year-old Juliana Marins, was climbing Mount Rinjani – an active 12,224-foot volcano on the Indonesian island of Lombok – with a guide and five other foreigners on June 21 when she fell some 1,968 feet, Indonesian authorities said. 'No signs of life were found,' said Mohammad Syafii, head of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency. Ms Marins' family in Brazil confirmed her death. Advertisement The difficult conditions and limited visibility delayed the evacuation process, Mr Syafii said. Brazil's Foreign Ministry called her death a tragedy and said that the country's embassy in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, had co-ordinated the rescue with local authorities. Ms Marins' ordeal has riveted her home country, Brazil, with millions following the dramatic search-and-rescue efforts since news broke of her fall. Authorities did not say when exactly she died. Advertisement In an Instagram post, Ms Marins' family thanked the many Brazilians who had prayed for their daughter's safety. Ms Marins, a dancer who lived in Niteroi, outside Rio de Janeiro, had been travelling across Asia since February, her family said. She had visited the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand before reaching Indonesia.
