Fantasy football rookie rankings 2025: Who's 2nd behind Ashton Jeanty?

USA Todaya day ago
It's time once again for a new crop of possible future NFL stars to make their way into the league and either hit instant stardom... or to take some time to get used to the speed and physicality. And that means in fantasy football that there's a little more care needed with an unknown quantity like a rookie.
That's where we're here to help. These are the fantasy football rankings for 2025, with an NFL Draft class led by a running back or two who could be superstars from the first snap, as well as a two-way talent who could be an amazing football player but not as much of a fantasy stud if he plays more defense (we'll get to that).
So let's run through the best rookies you should draft from sleepers to studs:
11. TE Colston Loveland, Chicago Bears
The skill set is right there for the rookie tight end to explode. The problem is there are a ton of mouths to feed in Chicago, along with TE Cole Kmet. Temper your expectations but he could end up showing up big in Year 1, maybe later in the season.
10. WR Matthew Golden, Green Bay Packers
Good player, less good situation. The Packers are wideout-by-committee by design. But they DID spend a first-round pick on Golden, and the buzz out of training camp is a little hard to ignore. I'll spend a late pick on Golden while having my doubts.
9. RB RJ Harvey, Denver Broncos
Don't look at the slightly crowded running back room. This rookie could have tons of upside in Sean Payton's offense, even with J.K. Dobbins around.
8. RB Kaleb Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers
Jaylen Warren is RB1 on this team, but as we've seen before, the Najeh Harris role isn't a bad one to have... and Johnson isn't Harris. Worth a bench stash for sure.
7. TE Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts
I'm higher on him than most, I think? He's clearly the best tight end of the class, but who's throwing him the football? It's either Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson. Here's my theory: They'll need Warren as a safety valve. I think he's got top-10 TE potential.
6. WR Emeka Egbuka, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mike Evans is somehow shoving away Father Time, and while we know Chris Godwin will be back at some point and that Jalen McMillan had moments at the end of last year, Egbuka is making waves already. With Godwin's status up in the air, he's got the chance to make a Week 1 impact and beyond.
5. WR/CB Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars
Hmm. Is this too low? Will his snaps on defense be limited? Will Brian Thomas Jr. keep Hunter's value down? Will your league let Hunter accrue points for both defense and offense if you have IDP? Lots of questions here, but he's exciting regardless.
4. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers
Maybe THIS one is too low. The only thing I have slight pause about is Bryce Young (although he looked better toward the end of last year) and the presence of the aging Adan Thielen. But those aren't huge, daunting queries. He's about to take off in Year 1.
3. RB TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots
I don't worry about Rhamondre Stevenson here. Henderson is electric and will contribute right away.
2. RB Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers
No matter if Najeh Harris returns from the offseason eye injury. Hampton is in a run-heavy offense where he may have RB2-type stuff right away.
1. RB Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders
He's a first-round pick in your league for a reason.

Jaguars' Travis Hunter Sits Out Practice 'As a Precaution' With Upper-Body Issue

National Football League Jaguars' Travis Hunter Sits Out Practice 'As a Precaution' With Upper-Body Issue Published Aug. 15, 2025 5:14 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Jacksonville Jaguars two-way star Travis Hunter was held out of the team's light practice Friday "as a precaution" because of an upper-body injury. When asked whether Hunter would play in the team's preseason game at New Orleans on Sunday, coach Liam Coen added, "We don't know yet." Hunter was on the field for the hour-long session and carried a play-calling sheet while following the action closely. "That's what they're supposed to do when they're hurt," Coen said. "We want them to make sure that they're locked in, getting all the calls, understanding the call and being able to watch and execute it as well in their minds." Hunter played on offense and defense, totaling 18 snaps, in Jacksonville's preseason opener against Pittsburgh last Saturday. The Heisman Trophy winner also played both ways during a scrimmage Thursday and crashed hard to the ground while defending a deep pass. Hunter was one of 10 players held out of Jacksonville's practice because of injury, joining right guard Chuma Edoga, right tackle Anton Harrison, defensive lineman Arik Armstead, defensive lineman Maason Smith, offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen, safety Caleb Ransaw, linebacker Jalen McLeod and cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Montaric Brown. It's unclear if any of them will play against the Saints, leaving Coen with a tough decision to make regarding playing starters in the second exhibition. "There's a chance," he said. "We got to go get this injury report and make sure, because I don't really want to do too many, 'You're playing, you're not playing,' that kind of deal. ADVERTISEMENT "If we are putting [QB Trevor Lawrence out there], we got to make sure we're protected, and we have the right guys in front. Same with the runners, things like that. Just making sure that we're not putting people in vulnerable spots because we are injured." Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? New Yorkers Fight For Supremacy In Second Week Of NFL Preseason

The second week of NFL preseason kicks into high gear on Saturday with turf wars in both New York and Los Angeles. The New Yorkers will meet in their annual preseason game at MetLife Stadium, which is the regular-season home for both, after a pair of scrimmages earlier in the week. New Las Vegas coach Pete Carroll will make his home debut against former Bay Area rival San Francisco on Saturday, while the Los Angeles teams — the Rams and Chargers — will play the in the battle of SoFi Stadium. Given the caveat that these games are more for coaches to use as evaluation tools inasmuch as starters will see little if any time, results may vary. A look at three: Miami Dolphins (0-0-1) at Detroit Lions (1-1) Saturday, CBS/Paramount+, 1 pm ET The matchup The Dolphins are expected to take a long look at backup quarterback Zach Wilson, who is fighting with rookie seventh-round draft pick Quinn Ewers to be first in line behind concussion-prone Tua Tagovailoa, which because of that carries more weight than a normal position battle. Wilson led the Dolphins to touchdowns on both his drives after replacing Tagovailoa for the second series of a 24-24 tie with Chicago last week, and he was sacked four times. Rookie running back Ollie Gordon II will get a chance after moving the depth charge following the season-ending neck injury to Alexander Mattison. Detroit quarterback Kyle Allen, obtained in the offseason and Jared Goff insurance, outplayed second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker by throwing a pair of touchdown passes a week ago, and the battle continues. The competition will play out against Dolphins' second-teamers, which has the feel of a mismatch. The teams scrimmaged twice early in the week, when both teams' No. 1 offenses played well. The spread: Dolphins -1 1/2 The money line: Dolphins -118 The total: 36 1/2 The play: Detroit. The Lions have won and covered three of their last four preseason games and benefit by entering this match with an extra game under their belt. New York Giants (1-0) vs New York Jets (1-0) Saturday, NFL Network, 7 pm ET The matchup The Giants traded up in the draft to get quarterback Jaxson Dart after selecting edge rusher Abdul Carter with the third pick of the first round, and both are expected to get plenty of time in this yearly preseason match. Dart, drafted as the quarterback of the future after the Giants signed Russell Wilson to a one-year deal, might have wide receiver Garrett Wilson to throw to for a series or two. Wilson signed a five-year, $130 million deal a month ago. Justin Fields, who played with Wilson in Pittsburgh a year ago, will get a longer look than just the limited snaps he had in the 30-10 victory over Green Bay in the opener, when he completed three of four passes and had two carries for 14 yards and a touchdown. The spread: Giants -3 1/2 The money line: Giants -190 The total: -39.5 The play: The Jets. The AFC side of New York has won and covered the last four in the exhibition borough series, and three have gone under. Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) at Washington Commanders (0-1) Monday, ESPN, 6:10 pm ET The matchup The Bengals had a developing situation in practice Wednesday, when defensive lineman Shermar Stewart, their first round draft pick, plowed into quarterback Joe Burrow while sacking him in a live scrimmage. Burrow, obviously, was not to be touched, and two plays later offensive lineman Lucas Patrick started a fight with Stewart, who later apologized to Burrow. 'He said, 'It's cool as long as you do it on Sundays, too,'' said Stewart of Burrow's response. Stewart held out through organized teams activities and the first week of training camp before signing a four-year, $19 million deal. He is expected to pair with edge rusher Trey Hendrickson to bulk up the defense, but Hendrickson is still holding out. He has one year and $16 million remaining on his deal. The Commanders rivaled the Bengals in offense performance behind offensive rookie of the year quarterback Jayden Daniels in 2024, when they were fifth in points and seventh in total yards. They are operating at a disadvantage again this week while trying synch up with a new group. Starting wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who may not have played regardless, is on the physically unable to perform list while seeking an extension to the three-year, $68.3 million contract he signed in 2022. The Commanders retooled in the offseason by adding wide receiver Deb Samuel and left tackle Laremy Tunsil, new to Kliff Kingsbury's offense. But both starting guards are recovering from injury, which will test their depth here. The spread: Bengals - 4 1/2 The money line: Bengals -200 The total: 42.5 The play: Washington. The Bengals are 0-6-1 straight up and 2-5 in their last seven preseason games after opening with a loss to Philadelphia last week. It's no secret, they bide time until Burrow jump-starts them in the regular season. Last week: 1-0 Season: 1-0
