Rain slams brakes on Supercars sprint in Melbourne

Yahoo16-03-2025

Heavy rain has forced Supercars officials to call off Sunday's 14-lap sprint race at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Triple Eight young gun Broc Feeney was primed to claim his second win of the season from pole position at Albert Park before officials canned the race due to unsafe track conditions.
The 30-minute session on Sunday had started under a safety car and was eventually suspended under a red flag after three laps.
It was vastly different track conditions for the 24-strong Supercars grid, who battled through sweltering heat on Saturday.
Feeney was sharing the front row with Matt Stone Racing underdog Cam Hill, while Triple Eight teammate Will Brown was forced to start in 21st.
Defending champion Brown had surged back to the top of the series standings after leading a one-two finish with teammate Broc Feeney on Saturday.
No points will be awarded to drivers from Sunday's race, though Brown held on to the Larry Perkins trophy.
Brown had won his maiden Larry Perkins trophy - named after the legendary five-time Bathurst winner - last year, awarded to the highest points-scorer of the Albert Park weekend since 2018.
Conditions are expected to clear for the season-opening Formula One race at 3pm (AEDT).
CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS:
1. Will Brown (Triple Eight Race Engineering) 467pts
2. Cam Waters (Tickford Racing) -7
3. Broc Feeney (Triple Eight) -49
4. Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United) -134
5. Brodie Kostecki (Dick Johnson Racing) -136

Jaylen Brown trade rumors: Celtics star linked to new team by NBA insider

The San Antonio Spurs are well-equipped to make a big splash this offseason after landing the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. With plenty of emerging young talent and the recent addition of De'Aaron Fox, they have been linked to Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo in trade rumors already as well as Kevin Durant. However, one NBA insider believes that Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown could also be on the Spurs radar. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated made the comments on Wednesday during NBC Sports Boston's Off C'season special. Advertisement 'The team I'd watch the closest with Jaylen Brown is probably the Spurs,' Mannix said 'Sure, I think they would love to make a run at Giannis, but do the Bucks ask for Stephon Castle? Like, is that on their wish list? And if it is, I can't see San Antonio doing a deal like that.' If the Spurs are looking for a star with a lower asking price than Antetokounmpo, Mannix believes that Brown could be a feasible option for San Antonio. 'I think if you're Boston, you're not going to ask for a Stephon Castle. You're not going to get a Stephon Castle in a potential Jaylen Brown deal. You would get the No. 2 pick back in return. You would get the Devin Vassells, the Keldon Johnsons, future first-round capital. That's something I'd watch if and when the Giannis Antetokounmpo stuff shakes itself out over the next few weeks.' Brown signed a super-max extension with the Celtics two years ago and still has four guaranteed years remaining on his deal. He's set to make $53.1 million next season, the second-biggest salary on Boston's roster beyond Jayson Tatum. The Celtics are widely expected to trim down their payroll in the coming months from $227 million, but largely rumored options include moving Jrue Holiday or Kristaps Porzingis. Any deal involving Brown would be a bigger reset of the franchise around Tatum as he recovers from a torn Achilles. Advertisement The Spurs have plenty of long-term flexibility to take on Brown's massive deal, but they won't for very long. De'Aaron Fox is expected to look for an extension when his contract expires beyond this year, and Victor Wembanyama will need a max extension beginning in 2027-28 in all likelihood. Whether Brown is the best star fit around that duo for the long term will be an interesting question for the Spurs as they consider other stars at the forward spot. San Antonio holds two lottery picks (No. 2 and No. 14) in the NBA Draft, which kicks off on June 25. Whatever direction they decide to go in, that night will be telling for the team's long-term plans. More Celtics content Read the original article on MassLive.

Why are the San Antonio Spurs supposedly a team to watch in Jaylen Brown trade talks?

Why are the San Antonio Spurs supposedly a team to watch in Jaylen Brown trade talks? Why are the San Antonio Spurs supposedly a team to watch in Jaylen Brown trade talks for the Boston Celtics? With all the grans of salt taken in light of it being silly season (that time of year when reports about NBA teams are often coming from parties trying to bend things towards their interests), we have been hearing rumbles from trustworthy media that there might be a deal to be made for the Georgia native between Boston and San Antonio. If there is any proverbial fire to this smoke, what would such a deal look like to make sense for both parties? Would Brown be okay with decamping to Texas after all the roots he has put down in the local community over the last near-decade? Is this all just a distraction when it comes down to brass tacks? The folks behind the "WEEI Boston's Sports Original" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Jones and Keefe" show that takes a deep dive into these rumors. Check it out below!

Bengals' Chase Brown more than a little underrated in new rankings

Bengals' Chase Brown more than a little underrated in new rankings Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown seems like a guy flying a little bit under the proverbial radar right now ahead of training camp. After all, Brown stepped into the lead-back role for the Bengals last year and was productive, even proving himself after Zack Moss went down with an injury before suffering an injury of his own. Despite this and the Bengals not really bringing on competition for Brown, Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikkema ranked him 25th out of 32 running backs in a recent look at the position leaguewide: 'Brown earned a 73.8 PFF rushing grade and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade last season to give him three-down value for the Bengals. That combination of skill helped him produce the 16th-highest PFF WAR mark among running backs in 2024.' RELATED: Bengals UDFA is already turning heads at OTAs Behind a middling offensive line over 16 games, Brown ran for 990 yards and seven scores on a 4.3 per-carry average last year, catching 54 passes and scoring four times as a receiver, too. There's no reason to think Brown will see a reduction in chances next year despite Moss coming back on a reworked contract and Samaje Perine re-joining the team. The team would like to do more to keep Brown healthy late into the season, perhaps, but not enough to have him ranked so low when it seems like he and the offense as a whole could be improved in 2025, if not at least more balanced.
