'I'm completely devastated, honestly. He was more than a friend; he was like family to me.' His grief was clear as he struggled to find words during the post-match interview.
Trent explained that he found out about Jota's death when he woke up to countless messages offering condolences.
'At first, I didn't understand. I had to check social media to see what was happening. I thought there must have been a mistake… but sadly, it wasn't. I'm still in shock,' he admitted, his voice shaking with emotion.
Despite the pain he felt, Trent showed incredible professionalism by playing more than an hour in the high-stakes game, even providing an assist to help his team reach the semi-finals.

Pain beyond words
Although he was clearly heartbroken, Trent took a moment to praise the way the football community had come together to honour Diogo Jota.
'It's been amazing to see everyone showing their support, both on and off the pitch. I know his family must really appreciate it,' he said gratefully.
When reflecting on the 3-2 win, Trent acknowledged that while it was an important result for Real Madrid, it couldn't fill the emptiness left by his friend's death.
'Of course, the victory is special, but nothing can make up for the void Diogo's passing has left. He was a wonderful person and a fantastic player, and he'll never be forgotten,' he concluded.

Official: Real Madrid remain at the top of UEFA club rankings
The UEFA Champions League has historically been a competition Real Madrid have dominated and the club's legacy of being the biggest institution in the sport has a lot to do with that metric. Los Blancos, over the years, have turned up time and time again in Europe irrespective of their form domestically and their tally of 15 titles in the competition puts them out of reach and sight of any competition. While there is no single metric that projects an accurate image of exactly how dominant the club have been in the event, UEFA Club Rankings do justice on that front compared to other metrics. Needless to say, the men in white have been in the number 1 position for most of the recent past. Still at the top Real Madrid are the top-ranked club. As confirmed on UEFA's official website, Real Madrid continues to be number 1 on the club rankings ahead of the new season despite their relatively poor performance in the last season. The men in white have 30, 29, 34 and 24.5 points in the 2021-22, 22-23, 23-24 and 24-25 seasons respectively, thus taking their tally to 117.5 with the upcoming season calculated as the fifth season at zero points. Their closest competitors are Bayern Munich on 108.25 while Inter Milan are third on 107.25 points. Barcelona remain the closest-placed Spanish side and are in 9th place with 83.25 points. The weakest point in Real Madrid's five-year point tally is from last season where they fell in the quarterfinal against Arsenal. With new signings and a new manager, they will look to better their progression and return to their usual selves in the premier competition this season.

Manchester United have left Barcelona 'hurt' by signing Benjamin Sesko
Manchester United's capture of Benjamin Sesko has been painful for Barcelona. Despite missing out on European football, United have spent north of £200 million during the summer transfer window to bring in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko. For their latest signing, Sesko, who arrives from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €85m (£73.4m), the Red Devils had to fight off intense competition from Newcastle United. The Magpies were prepared to hand the Slovenian a more lucrative contract to lure him to St James' Park. Early in the summer, Arsenal tried to sign Sesko as well, but their sporting director Andrea Berta eventually decided to spend big on Viktor Gyokeres. Barcelona wanted to sign Benjamin Sesko Now, Spanish publication SPORT claim that Barcelona were also monitoring the 22-year-old, who scored 21 goals last term. It is understood that Barca viewed Sesko as Robert Lewandowski's possible replacement. Due to their financial predicament, the Catalan outfit planned to make a move for him in 2026. The ageing Lewandowski has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Camp Nou and is expected to depart the club next summer. However, instead of waiting for Barcelona, Sesko moved to United ahead of the new season and was unveiled in front of the Old Trafford crowd over the weekend. The report states: 'The Blaugrana sporting management has been particularly hurt by the signing of Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.' Marcus Rashford expected to play as a striker at Barca The Slovenia international is highly rated by their sporting director Deco, who signed Marcus Rashford from United this summer on a season-long loan. Rashford primarily plays as a left winger. However, at Barca, there's a belief he could shine as a number nine and challenge Lewandowski under Hansi Flick. Barcelona have a buy option to sign Rashford permanently for around €35m. As such, the Englishman could become their first-choice striker down the line if he grabs the opportunity this season. Interestingly, Rashford's move to Barcelona eased United's financial concerns, allowing them to make a move for Sesko. The La Liga giants will help the Mancunians save around £14m by covering his salary. Featured image Matt McNulty via Getty Images online polls Follow us on Bluesky: @

Report – Inter Milan Unwilling To Offer North Of €50M For Atalanta Wantaway Star
Serie A runners-up Inter Milan are reportedly firm on a €50 million ceiling in their pursuit of Ademola Lookman. According to Corriere di Bergamo via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri have contacted the player's entourage to accelerate talks. In contrast to yesterday's report, La Dea have yet to name their price. There was a genuine belief that they would sell Lookman for around €50 million. However, after sanctioning Mateo Retegui's transfer, they may increase their asking price for the Nigerian. Inter Milan Reluctant to Offer More than €50m for Atalanta Star Ademola Lookman BERGAMO, ITALY – MAY 25: Ademola Lookman of Atalanta BC looks on during the Serie A match between Atalanta BC and Parma Calcio 1913 at Gewiss Stadium on May 25, 2025 in Bergamo, Italy. (Photo by) Atalanta rejected Inter's €45 million bid earlier in August. Furthermore, talks between the clubs have since fizzled. Yet, the San Siro giants have not given up on their pursuit of the 27-year-old forward. Indeed, Ademola Lookman has agreed on personal terms with the Nerazzurri, putting them in a decent bargaining position. Despite that, Inter will not surpass the €50 million mark. Given Atalanta's attempt to drive a hard bargain, it would be unsurprising if Inter soon turn to other targets.
