First picture of 'loving' teenager who died after motorbike plunged into canal

This is the first picture of a 'lovely caring' teenager who died after his motorcycle plunged into a canal in west London.
Thinad Agathangelou's body was spotted in the Grand Union Canal in Southall at 11am on Bank holiday Monday.
The 19-year-old mechanic had been out for a ride next to the water when he crashed.
Police are investigating and believe the incident happened sometime between 3pm on Sunday 25 May and the time he was found the following day.
His mother Anna, 53, told Metro: 'He was a lovely caring son who would do anything for anyone.
'I saw him on the Saturday before he died, he came round for dinner. He was his normal self, very helpful and fun to be around.
'He was working in a garage which specialises in converting camper vans. He loved the job and was looking forward to the future. I am heartbroken.'
She said she did not know why her son, who lived in Hendon, was in Southall when he died and said she hoped the police investigation would shed more light on the incident.
She added: 'As far as I know he didn't have any friends or know anyone in Southall. I have a lot of questions that I hope the investigation can help answer. We are in the dark really.
'He did love bikes starting with bicycles and then motorbikes. They were his passion. How he ended up on the canal we don't know.
'I spoke to the man who found him floating. Apparently, he was wearing his helmet and because of that he came to the surface.
'He was a very bright boy as well and had lots of friends. On the day he came to my house he offered to go to B&Q for me to get some stuff for the garden. He was a loving, thoughtful son.'
Flowers and cards have been left on the towpath next to the point where Tommy hit the water.
A framed picture of him celebrating his 17th birthday with a cake had also been placed at the scene.
One card from his girlfriend says: 'You have no idea how much I love and miss you.
'You were the most perfect person I ever met. I will miss your contagious laugh … I will cherish the moments we had.'
The caretaker for housing estate next to the scene said residents were 'deeply shocked'.
He told Metro: 'People are very shocked and upset. We just don't know how this could have happened. It's not as if you can ride fast along the towpath as it's narrow.' More Trending
A police appeal has been launched for any camera footage covering the stretch of canal where the crash happened.
The Met said: 'Between about 3pm on Sunday May 25 and 11am on Monday 26 a man and motorbike have entered the Grand Union Canal behind Carter Court in Southall.
'Sadly, the man was deceased when he was found. Police are appealing for any Ring Doorbell footage or CCTV from around that time.'
Meanwhile the teenager's family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to help with funeral costs.

Teenager, 17, is hailed a hero for diving into the sea to save 13-year-old boy who had been 'egged on' by friends to jump 10ft into the water off a pier

A 17-year-old has been hailed a hero after he jumped into the sea to save a 13-year-old boy from drowning in strong currents when he was peer-pressured into jumping off a pier. Brave Marlee Elliott sprinted into the sea to rescue youngster Reggie Jones - who was a stranger to him - when he heard him shouting as he struggled to stay afloat. Reggie had been 'egged on' by his friends to jump 10ft into the water from a pier - despite not having experience swimming in the sea. He jumped from the pier in Southsea, Portsmouth, Hants, into strong waves. Others watched in disbelief as Marlee ran to the shoreline and swam around 200 yards out to Reggie and held him above the water while they waited for emergency services. The lifeboat arrived shortly after and dragged the pair out of the water, before the 13-year-old was taken to hospital in Portsmouth. He had been coughing up water and the paramedics said he was just two minutes away from drowning. He was in hospital for two days due to problems with his kidneys. The older teenager spent two hours in the ambulance after the incident at around 6pm and it was found that his body temperature had dropped to 31 degrees - four degrees below the barrier for hypothermia. A GoFundMe campaign has now been set up by Reggie's stepdad, Jay Ayling, 33, to reward Marlee's selfless act with a brand new motorbike. Reggie, from Portsmouth, said: 'I was with a group of four school mates from Year Nine. We were messing about on the pier and then I jumped off in the sea not knowing that it was a riptide. 'When I was in the water I just gave up and I thought that was it and that was pretty scary. It was probably about 10 feet down and I've never done anything like that before. 'It wasn't cold when I jumped in but it got colder. I don't remember much of what happened until I was pulled out by the lifeboat. 'To be honest there was a lot of shouting but I don't think my friends were doing much to help. None of them jumped in even though I wasn't too far from the pier. 'I am extremely grateful to Marlee for what he did as I wouldn't be here if it weren't for him. I can't say that I'll be jumping into the sea again any time soon.' Marlee added: 'I was at a party on the beach front with a group of around eight friends. We had been there for about two hours. 'I know he jumped off the pier and despite there being lots of people on the beach no one was looking like they were going to save him. 'I wouldn't say I'm a massively confident sea swimmer but I was the best out of our group. It really was a fight or flight moment. 'I was with him for at least five minutes before the lifeboat came and dragged us out. 'I sat in the ambulance for about two hours to warm up before going home. I feel fine now. 'I am not one for boasting but I am proud of what I did. I know that it might not be what you're supposed to do but I think I would do it again in the same situation.' Reggie's step-father Mr Ayling said: 'I think Reggie knows he was being a bit of a douche and won't be doing it again anytime soon. 'His friends were egging him on and so he did it but he just ran out of puff and it was only because of what Marlee did that he is still here. I can't thank him enough. 'I think the incident scared the life out of Reggie. He said in hospital that he didn't want to die. 'I believe that people that do heroic things deserve to be recognised so I set up the fundraiser to help him get his motorbike as he has earned it. 'I also hope it spreads a message and sets a benchmark in the community.'

Tourist restrains influencer after ‘cruel' Apple Pay prank plagues Londoners

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Tiktokers who think they are funny are pranking London commuters with fake Apple Pay payments, but victims are quite literally fighting back. The viral trend sees Tiktokers play the Apple Pay 'ding' sound next to a stranger's phone, saying 'thank you' and walking away. This leaves the victim of the prank thinking they have had money taken from them. One influencer, F Boogie, walked up to a tourist on the River Thames and pretended to take £1,000 from them. But the tourist, enraged at the thought he had so much money taken from him, physically restrained the Tiktoker. A plainclothed police officer then arrived at the scene, and handcuffed F Boogie who shouts: 'Oh my hand bruv, my hand, you've f***ed up my hand.' The prank does not cause any financial or physical harm, but it can leave victim's distressed and confused. Users who are choosing to pull the prank on someone, pretend to make a contactless payment with their phone against someone else's. The prank is complete with the classic Apple Pay 'ding' and a a graphic on the user's phone signifying payment has been complete. Pranksters tend to say 'thank you' at the end to really ham home the act and get a reaction out of their victim. Some commenters beneath the videos have said it is cruel, and is only being done for Tiktok hits. Londoners will be pleased to know that money can never be taken from them from someone else's phone. Apple Pay requires authorization and a payment terminal. So phones are unable to transfer funds just by touching. Metro has contacted the Met Police for comment. People stuck in 26-storey tower block after lifts broke offered £100 voucher

Residents trapped up an iconic Brutalist tower block have been offered only £100 in compensation despite being unable to leave their homes. Those living in the top floors of the 26-storey Balfron Tower, east London, have been periodically stuck in their flats as the lifts keep breaking down. They told Metro one of the lifts in the Grade II-listed tower is temperamental and the second one stopped working completely last in May. Vasundhata Gupte, 22, cannot walk up and down the stairs because of a hamstring injury. She said: 'I am coming back from recovery sessions for my leg, but I then have to walk up 15 flights of stairs so what is even the point in trying to fix it.' The Ernő Goldfinger building, on the Brownfield Estate, is managed by property firm Way of Life and two-bed flats typically cost around £2,300 a month to rent. Fellow resident Peter, 58, has a spinal injury so cannot use the stairs at all. He said: 'What if there is a fire? What if I have a heart attack? Who will come and get me? Lives are at stake here.' Residents have since been offered an e-voucher from Poplar Harca, which owns the building, worth £100 for the 'inconvenience', the Standard reports. Peter, in a letter to MP Apsana Begum, said: 'After everything we've endured, to be offered a flat-rate token – not even per person – is not only inadequate, it is downright insulting. 'This gesture minimises the severity of the situation and shows a complete lack of understanding (or concern) for the distress and damage caused.' Harca said: 'The service outage was the result of a unique, highly unfortunate and unlikely component failure, that could not have been foreseen or prevented. 'Throughout the period when lifts were not operational, all building safety requirements were fully adhered to. The safety of all residents was and remains our absolute priority and our contingency plans for this situation were signed off by the London Fire Brigade. More Trending 'The Balfron Tower team brought in additional on-the-ground support for residents, and provided specific support to those with additional needs. 'Engineers worked hard to restore service as quickly as possible, which required the expedited production and delivery of bespoke components from a supplier in Germany. The first lift was operational from 20th May and the second lift was operational from 23rd May. 'The lifts were and continue to be serviced on a frequent and best practice schedule.'
