Top AI prompters compete at Global Prompt Engineering Championship

24 finalists whittled down from 3,800 entrants compete for Dh 1 million prize.
Dubai — The final stage of the Global Prompt Engineering Championship 2025 has officially kicked off. Organised by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), an initiative by DFF, the flagship championship brings together the world's top generative AI specialists as part of the inaugral Dubai AI Week, a global gathering focused on advancing generative AI applications in art, video, gaming, and coding.
Taking place on 22–23 April, 2025, at AREA 2071 in Emirates Towers, the finals will see 24 global finalists compete for a Dh 1 million prize pool. The competition attracted over 3,800 entrants from more than 125 countries, underscoring Dubai's growing reputation as a hub for global AI talent.
Challenges
On Arts category, participants have to create an optical illusion using only three colors: Green, red and black, design a superhero based in the Middle East, and create a three-panel-comic strip telling a coherent story with a beginning. Moreover, they need to create two images, showing the same place or object, but at two different historic eras or time periods.
For video, competitors need to create a POV scene of a moment in a different era, either past or future, develop music video scene for a band in the Middle East, and create a childhood memory captured on camera of a specific time, whether past or in the future. Additionally, showcase a wildlife documentarystyle scene about any animal not in its natural habitat.
On gaming, creators need to create a playable prototype with the core mechanics of Endless Runner, build a game where the entire gameplay is controlled using only one button, and create a playable prototype with the core mechanics of Stick Figure Fighting Game. In addition to creating a game where the player only has 60 seconds to save the world.
On coding, coders shall create a sleek, savvy platform that acts as a personal guide for Dubai tourists, and design an AI-driven mobile/web app culinary guide. Also, building an emergency response mobile app featuring an AI assistant.
Participants
A total of 24 participants were shortlisted to join GPEC in Dubai. In arts, Rameez Iqbal from Pakistan, Sufyan Alhussein from Iraq, Yahya Kaddoura from Palestine, Anastsia Ignatenko from Russia, Hiba Hassan from India, and Nicola Chemaly from South Africa. Video category included Ibrahim Hajjo from Syria, Ansh Mehra from India, Ibrhaim Diab from Jordan, Fahmi Metwalli from Jordan, Moustafa Zakari from Egypt, and Salem Al Otaibi from Kuwait.
In the gaming category, the shortlisted included: Aya Mohamed from Egypt, Ibrahim Helmy from Canada, Mohamed Alam from Bangladesh, Eduardo Souza from Brazil, Ali Al Hamwi and Rahaf Shora from Syria. From coding the shortlisted were: Bilal Elbouardi from Morocco, Nadeeha Abdul Salam from India, Fateme Ghaantpish from Iran, Yassir Laigi from Morocco, Belal Al Obaid from Syria, and Abdulrahman Al Marzouqi from UAE.
Dubai AI Week
The Global Prompt Engineering Championship finals are a key highlight of the first-ever Dubai AI Week, offering a dynamic platform for global talent to engage with the broader AI community and showcase cutting-edge applications.
Dubai AI Week aims to foster global collaboration around AI as catalyst for smarter governance, stronger economies, and future-ready societies. Other headline events of the week include the AI Retreat, Dubai Assembly for Generative AI, Global Prompt Engineering Championship, Dubai AI Festival, and the Machines Can See Summit.

Dubai's gaming industry is gaining momentum, with over 60 new companies established since the launch of the Dubai Programme for Gaming 2033 (DPG33) in November 2023, marking a 16.6% growth in just seven months. The programme, spearheaded by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), aims to position Dubai among the world's top 10 gaming hubs by 2033. Today, the city is home to more than 350 gaming-related companies, including 260 specialised game developers, contributing to a global industry valued at $200 billion. Launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, DPG33 is designed to create 30,000 new jobs and add $1 billion to Dubai's GDP within the next decade. The initiative focuses on fostering innovation, nurturing talent, and building a robust digital ecosystem that supports game development and content creation. DFI announces programming and awards for 2025 Doha Film Festival

Doha Film Festival to have four competition strands with total of over USD 300,000 in prize money to reward artistic excellence. Doha Film Institute (DFI) has unveiled the programming and awards lineup for the upcoming Doha Film Festival (DFF), reaffirming its dedication to championing bold, original storytelling and amplifying underrepresented voices and diverse perspectives in global cinema. The announcement was made during the 78th Cannes Film Festival, marking the 15th anniversary of DFI, which was first launched in Cannes in 2010 by DFI Chair H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa. Set to take place from November 20 to 28, 2025, the festival will offer over $300,000 in prize money and feature a vibrant official selection across four competition categories: the International Feature Film Competition, showcasing compelling new works by emerging and established filmmakers; the International Short Film Competition, which highlights innovative storytelling in short form; the Ajyal Film Competition, judged by a youth jury offering generational insight; and the Made in Qatar Competition, celebrating the creativity and talent of filmmakers based in Qatar. The festival promises a multifaceted experience, with industry sessions, community screenings, youth-focused programming, and a variety of events that will transform Doha into a global hub for filmmakers, artists, and audiences united by a passion for thought-provoking cinema. Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, Chief Executive Officer of Doha Film Institute and Festival Director, said: 'Doha Film Festival is not only a celebration of cinema, but a platform for purpose-driven storytelling amplifying important voices that are redefining the global film landscape with depth, nuance, and truth.' She added: 'It is the next chapter in our continued mission to nurture independent filmmakers, inspire new perspectives and foster cultural dialogue through cinema. The festival will offer a vibrant meeting point for film lovers, a stage for powerful stories and a launchpad for a new generation of cinematic talent. DFF is an expansion of the strong foundation we built with Ajyal Film Festival as a unique platform for self-expression and creative empowerment, and we look forward to guests celebrating the unifying power of film with us in Doha this November.' Each competition will feature awards that not only recognise excellence in filmmaking but also provide significant financial support and international exposure. The International Feature Film Competition will be adjudicated by a five-member jury and include awards such as Best Narrative ($75,000), Best Documentary ($50,000), Best Artistic Achievement ($45,000), and Best Performance ($15,000), along with a Special Mention certificate. The International Short Film Competition, overseen by a three-member jury, will award Best Film – Narrative or Documentary ($20,000), Best Director ($12,000), and Best Performance ($7,000). Meanwhile, the Made in Qatar Competition will honor local talent with awards for Best Short – Narrative or Documentary ($15,000), Best Director ($10,000), and Best Performance ($5,000), further reflecting DFI's strong commitment to supporting homegrown storytellers. The Ajyal Film Competition, continuing its tradition within DFF, will feature a youth jury aged 16 to 25, who will present awards for Best Feature – Narrative or Documentary ($35,000) and Best Short – Narrative or Documentary ($12,000). An Audience Award, accompanied by a certificate and trophy, will also be presented during the festival. DFF will activate iconic locations throughout Doha, with Katara Cultural Village set to host red carpet events and premieres, Msheireb Downtown Doha serving as the central hub for industry activities, and the Museum of Islamic Art providing an intimate venue for short film screenings. The full festival programme, including jury members and competition film titles, will be revealed in the coming months.
