Boxing world champion clarifies Angel Reese comments with 'hate' admission
Boxing star Claressa Shields has clarified her comments about Angel Reese after being snubbed for the BET Sportswoman of the Year award.
Earlier this month, Chicago Sky WNBA sensation Reese picked up the honour at the awards in Los Angeles, California - marking the third time she has picked up the coveted prize. At 23, Reese is widely regarded as one of the biggest names in women's basketball.
Shields was one of the other nominees for the prestigious award. And after being rebuffed of the award, the 30-year-old was far from impressed and took to social media to express her views. Taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - she posted: "Still don't know how I didn't win the Sportswoman of the Year for the @BETAwards but Congrats to Angel Reese and all the other Nominees. I just thought accolades mattered."
She added: "Ain't nobody saying Angel Reese don't have accolades or she not good…. I'm saying I thought the person with 'THE MOST' accolades & accomplishments would win the Award. I'm team Angel Reese!" Last year, Shields won the WBC, and vacant WBF female heavyweight and WBO female light heavyweight titles with a stoppage win over Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse. Shields then followed it up with a win over Danielle Perkins to win the IBF, WBO and inaugural WBA female heavyweight titles.
She seemingly thought her recent accolades would be enough to pip Reese to the award. Shields received some backlash for her posts. However, the boxing superstar was quick to address her comments and express her adoration for Reese during an interview with Brandon Robinson. 'I'm not angry or salty or any of that,' she said. 'I was just shocked." She further clarified: 'I've won the Women's Sports Foundation Award for Sportswoman of the Year three times—more than any other woman. I think Serena Williams won it twice.
"I went to the ESPYs as the only female boxer to ever win Best Boxer. I have a Nickelodeon award. I mean, I have all these things that I've won. So I thought that would mean finally getting some recognition with BET.' It is evident the American has a lot of respect for Reese - despite clearly thinking she was more deserving of winning the aforementioned award.
'Anything that we do—good, bad—we say something, wear something; they're all down our throats," she continued. "Grown men, grown women constantly judging us, trolling us, trying to break our will and make us not be confident. And I think we both experience that. Being Black women, they attack us every single day. When I see her getting it and I go through it myself, I'm clapping for myself and clapping for her, because she just keeps going. I actually hate that it looks like I joined the Angel Reese hate train.'
She later added: "I hate that it actually looks like I joined the Angel Reese hate train. It's like no, listen, I'm with you. f*** them... I'm not allowed to be a competitor? That's what we are. We are female athletes. We are competitors... But I really do hate how they tried to pin us against each other. Listen, I'm an Angel Reese fan. I'm not a hater of her."

Jake Paul told his plan to fight Anthony Joshua after Gervonta Davis will fail
Jake Paul was reportedly in line to face both Anthony Joshua and Gervonta Davis, but the American has been dealt a blow as the heavyweight intends to move on Jake Paul has suffered a significant setback in his quest to secure bouts with both Anthony Joshua and Gervonta Davis after confirmation the heavyweight plans to pursue other opportunities. The YouTuber-turned-pugilist is set to return to action on November 14 against Davis in an exhibition match at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This marks Paul's second outing of the year following his victory over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June. For several weeks, it appeared highly probable that the American would clash with Joshua in a heavyweight encounter early next year. The British fighter's promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently disclosed that the YouTuber-turned-boxer was leading the race for the fight. Paul was so keen to share the ring with the heavyweight sensation that he was prepared to accept just ONE PER CENT of the prize money. Nevertheless, despite the latest developments, Paul suggested he still has Joshua in his sights. In a message posted on X - previously Twitter - the social media star declared he would "kill David," then "slaughter Goliath" - possibly hinting at his desire to face the two-time heavyweight champion next year, reports All Out Fighting. "His nickname might be Tank, but I'm an FPV drone and I'm about to disable tiny boy. Yes, he's one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath," Paul wrote. Despite cryptically revealing his plans for the next year or so, it now appears more likely that Joshua will move on - serving as a real blow to Paul. In an interview with FightHype, 'AJ's' promoter Hearn clarified the Brit's future, explaining that the 35 year old will fight another opponent in either January or February. When asked whether he has spoken to the British boxer since the Paul news, he replied: "No. He was quite chilled about the whole thing anyway. He is kind of like that guy that just says 'look, just phone me when it is done.' And, until it is done, I do not think a lot of it. I do not know if it is real or not, but whatever. We were talking about a fight in February or March. We knew that Jake Paul might fight November. I did not expect it to be Gervonta (Davis)." Hearn added: "I do not know how it affects us in terms of would we do the fight. The issue is, we are not going to wait until November. I won't speak on his behalf like that, but I doubt we commit to the fight until the Tank fight is over. We are not going to wait until November to make our move. So it is very likely that AJ will fight January, February, now probably against someone else." Regarding who's lined up next for Joshua - that remains unclear. The two-time world champion hasn't stepped into the ring since his devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois. Recently, Dubois' manager, Sam Jones, suggested that a rematch between the pair of heavyweights could be in the pipeline. "The rematch with AJ is always there. I'm a big AJ fan - I've made no secret of that," Jones told Sky Sports. "He's a proud man, and I know he won't want to keep seeing that knockout by Daniel on his screen. I'm sure he'll want to right that wrong. And if he ever wants to, then let's get it on. It's all about what's best for Daniel now - WBO, IBF, WBC. He belongs at the top table in heavyweight boxing. He's an elite-level heavyweight. All those names you mentioned - Daniel will be back in the mix."

Anthony Joshua's future becomes clear after Jake Paul fight snub
Anthony Joshua has been left without an opponent after Jake Paul snubbed the British heavyweight to face Gervonta Davis in his next fight, with his return now confirmed Anthony Joshua is set to make his comeback early next year after the British heavyweight was snubbed by Jake Paul. The 'Problem Child' made his return to action in June, defeating former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Keen to remain busy, the American has recently confirmed his next bout - but it won't be against Joshua. Despite repeatedly challenging the Brit over recent months, Paul will now face lightweight king Gervonta Davis instead. The duo are set to clash on November 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Numerous boxing enthusiasts were left shocked, especially after a bout between Paul and Joshua appeared destined for early next year. Paul was so eager to share the ring with the heavyweight sensation that he was prepared to accept just a ONE PER CENT share of the purse. With Joshua now lacking an opponent, his promoter Eddie Hearn has disclosed his star fighter is targeting a comeback next year, whilst also sharing his views on Joshua's future. Speaking to FightHype, when questioned whether he had spoken to the British boxer since the Paul announcement, he responded: "No. He was quite chilled about the whole thing anyway," reports All Out Fighting. "He is kind of like that guy that just says 'look, just phone me when it is done.' And, until it is done, I do not think a lot of it. I do not know if it is real or not, but whatever. We were talking about a fight in February or March. We knew that Jake Paul might fight November. I did not expect it to be Gervonta (Davis)." Hearn anticipates Joshua will return to action in January or February, explaining: "I do not know how it affects us in terms of would we do the fight. The issue is, we are not going to wait until November. I won't speak on his behalf like that, but I doubt we commit to the fight until the Tank fight is over. We are not going to wait until November to make our move. So it is very likely that AJ will fight January, February, now probably against someone else." Whilst Hearn believes Joshua will proceed with an alternative opponent, Paul subsequently suggested he remains focused on the British heavyweight after responding to the bout announcement. The 'Problem Child' declared he will "kill David," then "slaughter Goliath" - possibly indicating he's targeting a 2026 showdown with the former two-time heavyweight world champion. In a post shared on X - previously known as Twitter, he wrote: "His nickname might be Tank, but I'm an FPV drone and I'm about to disable tiny boy. Yes, he's one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath." When will Anthony Joshua fight next? Joshua is currently recuperating from elbow surgery, with his promoter anticipating his return to the ring early next year. Hearn recently disclosed that 'AJ' is now eager to move forward with his career after repeatedly chasing a match with Tyson Fury, although he still harbours hopes of eventually squaring off with the 'Gypsy King' before retiring. Hearn spoke to Sky Sports about Joshua's future plans, stating: "Yeah, good, he had that operation recently... that elbow surgery, which went very well. You will see him return in October, November or December." A rematch with Daniel Dubois could be in the pipeline after the Brit's manager - Sam Jones - expressed enthusiasm for a second face-off with 'AJ', saying: "The rematch with AJ is always there. I'm a big AJ fan - I've made no secret of that. "He's a proud man, and I know he won't want to keep seeing that knockout by Daniel on his screen. I'm sure he'll want to right that wrong. Jake Paul breaks silence on controversial Gervonta Davis fight
The YouTuber-turned-boxer's second fight in 2025 has been confirmed and social media sensation was quick to have his say online following the announcement Jake Paul has made his feelings clear after his showdown with lightweight champion Gervonta Davis was announced. The pair are expected to go head-to-head on November 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The news was posted on the official Netflix Turkiye X account before it was quickly taken down. Ring Magazine reporter Mike Coppinger later confirmed the news. In a post uploaded to X - formerly known as Twitter - he wrote: "Jake Paul will face Gervonta Davis on Nov. 15 at Atlanta's State Farm Arena in an exhibition on Netflix, sources confirm to @ringmagazine. Talks for Paul to face Anthony Joshua collapsed over network issues. Paul's last fight took place at 200 pounds while Davis is a champion at 135." The news quickly sent boxing fans into frenzy. And now, Paul has had his say. "Gervonta who has been disrespecting my name for too long," he wrote. "His nickname might be Tank, but I'm an FPV drone and I'm about to disable tiny boy. Yes, he's one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath." Paul's last fight took place back in June when he took on former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Despite failing to get the knock, the YouTuber-turned-boxer scored an impressive win on points despite a late flurry from the Mexican. The 28-year-old's return came seven months after beating Mike Tyson. After a very stop-start 2025, the 'Problem Child' is hoping to stay active in the ring. It seemed likely that Anthony Joshua and Paul were set to fight next year. The American has continuously called for a clash with 'AJ.' Earlier this month, Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn revealed there was a "very real" chance of the fight happening. As well as that, Paul's business partner Nakisa Bidarian confirmed that a fight looked set to take place in early 2026. "I think we're looking at it happening at the start of 2026. It's public that AJ was taking a little time away, I think he had a little surgery. So once he's ready, and once Jake is ready, we're going to squarely focus on that," he said. "It's a fight that Jake wants to do, and that's a discussion we've had at length, and he feels very confident about where he is in his career and his chances of upsetting Anthony Joshua." However, a fight between the pair fell through. Paul's opponent, Davis, was expected to rematch Lamont Roach after their controversial draw earlier this year, but the two teams have now seemingly moved on. Roach even took a swipe at his rival after posting a couple of duck emojis online after Tank's clash with the 'Problem Child' was made official. The social media sensation revealed back in May, Paul claimed that he was close to securing a fight with Davis at 195lbs before negotiations fell through. Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Paul remarked: "That was on the one yard as well, but he has to rematch Lamont Roach. "He wants to get that back. Then we will be back in discussions with Mr. Gervonta. But this is the nature of boxing, you have massive fights on the one-yard line and then they fall through." While Davis is a whopping five stone lighter than his foe, Paul revealed in May that it would be sanctioned as an exhibition bout. Paul competes at cruiserweight (200lbs) - despite his heavyweight clash with Tyson - and he even offered to slim down to 195lbs to take on Davis - who is naturally a super lightweight (140lbs). The 28-year-old stated that the fight would be contested over 10 three-minute rounds with no restrictions on the rules. "I never really thought Tank was that good, it just took the right fighter to pick him apart to be honest," Paul added. "Someone who had high activity and wasn't afraid of his power. So, I always saw so many holes in his game, to me it wasn't that surprising that someone finally gave him some good work."
